Day 2: How to Set-up Your Domain Name

Thanks again for building your website with OurChurch.Com’s WP-EZ Website Builder yesterday.

10 Days to a Great Website

To help you create a website that lets you live out your mission online, we’re going to send our training series “10 Days to a Great Website” at no charge.  You’ll receive 1 lesson each day via email with tips and video tutorials to make your website better.  If you’re not interested in learning about building your website, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Yesterday – Day 1 – you took the important step of building your new website with WP-EZ.  You should have received an email with your username and password to login to your WP-EZ Dashboard.

Your domain name is your online identity.

It’s the .com, .org (or dot whatever) address people type into their web browser to get to your website.

If you ordered a Gold, Silver or Bronze account, when you ordered you selected one of the 3 options shown below:

Register a new domain is the easiest option. We register and manage your domain name for you. It’s up and running with your website usually within a few minutes. And when it comes time to renew, you can renew it with your other OurChurch.Com services.

To transfer your domain from another registrar, you will have to remove the transfer lock and respond to an email asking you to confirm you want your domain name transferred.  You should have received an email from us with instructions. It can take several days to several weeks to get a domain transferred and working with your new website depending how responsive you and your current domain registrar are.

If you opted to use an existing domain name and update the nameserver settings, you can make this change immediately and have your domain working within a few hours.  We sent an email yesterday with the nameserver settings.

Upgrade Your Free Site

If you ordered a free site, your website does not have a domain name. It’s address is something like

It’s longer and harder to remember than a domain name. It also implies that you’re not willing to invest the 15-50 cents a day in a professional-quality website.

If you’d like to upgrade your website to Gold, Silver or Bronze and get your own domain name:

  • Login to your MyOCC Dashboard
  • Click My Services in the dashboard
  • Click the green arrow to the right of where your free site is listed
  • Click the “Upgrade/Downgrade” button
  • Order a Gold, Silver or Bronze site

If you have any questions, click reply and send us an email.

Tomorrow we’ll learn about creating pages.
