One of the most common questions we’re asked is, “How much does SEO cost?”
If you look around for an Search Engine Optimization (SEO) service, you’ll quickly come to find that there is a wide range of prices for SEO services, from under $100 to several thousand dollars a month. Why is that?
In this Search Engine Optimization Frequently Asked Questions (SEO FAQs) video blog, I address the question, How much does SEO cost? and look at 4 things that impact the cost of SEO services.
(The article below is a summary of the video, but you’ll get more details and examples if you watch the video.)
4 Things that Impact the Cost of SEO Services
When it comes to deciding which SEO company to work with, one of the biggest challenges is trying to compare one companies services to another. It is rarely an apples-to-apples comparison, and as a result prices can vary dramatically.
This is why we’ve put so much time and effort into this SEO FAQ series. The better you understand each component of SEO, the better you are able to make an educated decision about what is best for your church, school, ministry or business.
So, let’s talk about the factors impact the cost of SEO services…
1. SEO Services Included
SEO is a multifaceted endeavor that may include:
- technical SEO
- keyword research
- on-page optimization
- link building
- local SEO
- content marketing
- ongoing reporting and management
Obviously, an SEO service that does not include some of these items is probably going to cost less than one that includes all of them.
Additionally, the quantity included in some of these services can vary, such as the number of pages receiving on-page optimization, the number of links added, and the amount of content published each month. Be sure to dig into these details when comparing SEO services and proposals.
2. Customization is Key
Every organization is unique. The SEO needs of a church differ from those of a school, a nonprofit, or a business. Your goals, local or global focus, and the level of competition in your field all affect your SEO requirements. That’s why cookie-cutter, off-the-shelf SEO proposals don’t cut it. What you need is a customized proposal tailored to your organization’s specific situation and goals.
3. Scalability and Acceleration
SEO can be scaled and accelerated, particularly when it comes to building your website’s authority through link building and content marketing. If there’s a significant gap between your website’s authority and those that top the search rankings, you can choose to invest more in link building and content marketing each month. This decision directly affects the speed of your SEO gains.
4. The Investment Spectrum
SEO costs can range from a few hundred dollars per month to thousands of dollars per month for larger organizations in competitive fields. So, the real question isn’t, “How much does SEO cost?” The question you should be asking is…
“How much do we want to invest in our growth and our mission?”
(Remember, SEO is an investment not an expense.)
Are you looking for gradual, steady growth with a smaller investment, or are you eager to see quick, substantial improvements in search rankings, website traffic, and your overall organization by investing more?
We hope this helps you understand and evaluate the cost of SEO services.
