400 million smartphones were sold worldwide in 2010. Mobile phones are revolutionizing the way people access information and communicate with one another.
Mobile apps provide a great opportunity for churches to communicate and engage with their members more effectively. But at the moment, very little is known about how people would like to engage with their churches through mobile apps and what features they would find most valuable. Similarly, while a lot of church leaders express an interest in having a mobile app for their church, it’s hard to gauage how serious churches really are about launching their own app.
Ourchurch.Com would like to change that and help churches develop apps their people want to use. Would you take 5 minutes to complete this 25 question survey?
Take the Ultimate Church Mobile App Survey!
The survey will run until the end of March. At that time we’ll publish the aggregated results so everyone involved in church communications, web development and app develpment can benefit from its findings. (The raw data, each individual’s survey response, will not be released for privacy reasons).
After you complete the survey, please share a link to it. The more responses we get, the better the data will be.
Questions? Comments? Post a comment and discuss the survey and your church’s use of mobile apps.
Has your church ever surveyed your people about a mobile app? If so, would you be share the results of that survey here?

Paul,
Being the CEO of a company that focuses on Mobile Apps for Churches I can't wait to see the results of this survey. Thank you initiating this.
Also, we have over 18 things that you can do in your church app like the ability to put podcasts, videos, announcements and also things like Planning Center Online and YouVersion.
Let me know if you want any other information about the mobile app space for churches. It's a great space that I've lived for almost 2 years now.
That's awesome, Matt! A lot of churches are speculating about what features people in their church would use and appreciate most, what have you heard in feedback from your clients as to the features people in those churches actually use and say they like most?
Paul,
Great survey and very timely. Our company, wwwigivings.com, has incorporated the features you are asking about plus more in a TRUE app versus a mobile web browser that has 2-click donation function that you can literally give in about 3 seconds up to $100,000.00 with no 3rd party fees. Our interactive Prayer Wall is like nothing on the market. Check out, Eric Schmidt Delivers the Opening Keynote at the 2011 IAB Annual Leadership Meeting, on youtube and listen about the explosion of mobile app & mobile marketing that has taken Google by suprise.
Thanks Mark, is there a demo app or live app to checkout? And I'll ask you the same thing I asked Matt above… what have you heard in feedback from your clients as to the features people in those churches actually use and say they like most?
They love the look & feel of a true app with ease of functions. They use donations, interactive prayer wall to build the community in the app, and push notifications. The churches love the demographic and reporting capibilities of the admin.

Paul,
Great to see a Christian perspective on the hottest connection trends in the country. Our company offers churches a mobile marketing bundle comprising of: an iPhone app, Android app, mobile web site, unlimited sms text messaging, and a web presence all linked together with unlimited editing for less than $40 a month. We even have a gps feature that provides maps and driving directions to the church location. Look forward to seeing the results of the survey.
Blessings,
Doug

What a great idea! Our company, jacAPPS (www.jacAPPS.com) has done research for a number of the apps we've built – and we've found that no better resource exists for driving the content of an app than asking the people who will or do use it.
Kudos on the survey among your constituents. Just be sure to differentiate in the results between lay-folks and clergy – we find that stakeholders often have a dramatically different idea of what's important than do the folks who ultimately wind up using the app/site/blog/service, etc.
