This month our theme at OurChurch.Com is Love Your Website month. It’s all about making your website more effective, but we’re trying to have some fun with it by mixing in the whole Valentine’s Day / love theme.
Speaking of fun… if you’re not loving your website right now, maybe adding some fun and humor to it could help.
Sometimes I think we Christians take ourselves too seriously, and this is evident on our websites when all the content is super-serious and dare I say… boring.
Sure, our mission is important, but God created us to enjoy humor, laughter, games, and fun.
Humor has ways of breaking down barriers and giving us common experiences. This is why so many speakers (and pastors) start their talks and sermons with a joke or funny story.
Research also shows that when it comes to online content, funny content gets the most engagement – it gets more likes, comments and shares than any other kind of content.
So, if you want more visitors to your website, more social media engagement, more links to your site and better search rankings, try mixing in some more humor and fun content.
5 Ways to Infuse Fun and Humor into Your Website
1) Funny videos
2) Funny quotes / images
Humor can get in under the door while seriousness is still fumbling at the handle. -G.K. Chesterton
3) Ask fun questions
They don’t necessarily have to be funny. Just something interesting. Here are 150 questions to spark engagement.
4) Post photos of your people having fun
For years, our church has done a chili cook-off and watched the Super Bowl together. It’s a great time and people enjoy seeing pictures like this one I posted to Facebook a few years ago.
5) Share funny stories
The bible is full of funny stories. Jesus often used sarcasm, hyperbole and even poked fun at people at times to make spiritual illustrations. When funny things happen in the context of our ministries and businesses, we can share them when they are appropriate and not embarrassing anyone or hurting anyone’s feelings.
Where can we have fun on our websites?
It’s difficult to have a whole lot of fun with a website that just has a homepage, about page, calendar, and a contact form. Fun and humor require an interactive medium like a blog and/or social media.
This is one of the reasons we strongly recommend churches, schools, ministries and businesses blog, and why blogging is a part of the Christian SEO services we offer.
So, get to it – have some fun today!

When I first started designing websites, I watched tutorials and read articles about it. Our website will benefit from more frequent content updates. Making a website appealing to new users is critical for making a good first impression, promoting user involvement, and eventually achieving your website’s objectives, whether they be selling things, sharing information, or delivering a service.
