How Use a Blog to Amplify Church Outreach

How Use a Blog to Amplify Church Outreach

We here at OurChurch.com are big advocates of blogging for many reasons, but the reason I want to focus on today is how blogging can help your church connect with people in your community.

We live in a online-offline hybrid world.

We are constantly moving back and forth between interacting with the people right in front of us and also interacting with people with our phones, tablets and computers. Sometimes we’re doing both at the same time.

Therefore, our church outreach will be more effective if we have a hybrid approach that combines online outreach with our in-person outreach and events. Here’s how blogging can fit into this hybrid church outreach strategy.

3 Ways to Amplify Your Church Outreach with a Blog

    1) Tell stories of life transformation

There are people in your community who long for change. They have problems and issues they just can’t solve on their own. The gospel of Jesus is not just that our sins are forgiven and we spend eternity with Him, but it good news right now changing our lives and our very selves.

Blogging is a great way to share the stories of people in your church whose lives have been transformed by God. When people in your community see these stories, they will want to know more about God and how He can change their lives too.

    2) Tell stories of community life

A blog is also a great medium to share what’s happening in your church.

Are you doing a fall festival this year? Post info about it in a blog article and include pics from past events. After the event, share pics and stories.

Did one of your life groups help someone move? Blog about it.

Did a long-time member recently pass away? Honor them in a blog post.

Many people in your community are looking for a loving church where people genuinely care about one another and do life together beyond Sunday mornings.

    3) Discuss real life issues

A blog is also a great place to discuss life issues people face from a biblical perspective.

The bible is full of wisdom on every aspect of life – work, marriage, parenting, health problems, money, suffering, and more. While sometimes a blog can be used to provide answers or solutions to life’s challenges, perhaps an even better use is to demonstrate that your church is a safe place to discuss difficult issues.

When you blog, share your posts on your social media profiles so your members can like and share them with others. Create an email list which people can subscribe to receive your blog posts by email.

Bonus: Blogging improves search engine rankings and traffic

That’s right. And when your church website and blog articles rank higher in the search results and appear in the search results for more keywords, that enables you to reach more people in your community.

Search engines love fresh content. People like to link to interesting blog articles, and those links help search rankings as well.

There’s no better way to improve search rankings than creating great content, and there are no shortcuts to great content. –Paul Steinbrueck

Blogs are a great way to spread and amplify your reach and influence over many people, whether you are a representing community, a business, or even a personal brand. I believe they are an invaluable tool allowing you to spread value and also build trust and rapport with your followers over the long haul unlike any other medium.
