The results are in from the Church Social Media Learning Survey.

Over the last 6 weeks or so we’ve been conducting an online survey about what kinds resources have best helped them to learn about church social media in the past and what kinds of resources they would find most helpful in the future.

Here’s what we’ve gleaned from the results…

We asked respondents to “Rate how helpful the following resources have been in helping you learn about church social media.” Based on the average rating, we discovered…

The Top 3 resources for learning about social media

  1. Watching what other churches are doing in social media
  2. The #ChSocM twitter chat
  3. Blog posts specifically about social media for churches

and…

The Bottom 3 resources for learning about social media

  • 15) Online training courses
  • 16) Mastermind group
  • 17) Consultants

From there we asked people for the top 2 types of resource they would most like to see developed. We took the responses and gave 2 points each time a resource was top billing and 1 point each time a resource was given second choice.

Top 5 Church Social Media Resources Wanted

  1. Mentor or coach (26 points)
  2. Mastermind group (17)
  3. (Better) Blog posts specifically about social media for churches (16)
  4. Conferences (15)
  5. Online training courses (14)

It’s worth noting that “Mentor or Coach” was the winner by a large margin, while the next four were closely grouped. No other type of resource scored above an 8.

It’s also worth noting that Mastermind Group and Online Training Courses were among both among the three least helpful resources and five most wanted resources. To me that indicates some opportunities.

Next week, in part 2 of this series, I’m going to share insight gleaned from responses to the question, “What are your top 2 questions about church social media?” The following week, in part 3, I’m going to share some insight derived from the amount of time and money invested in learning about church social media. So, if you’re not already, go ahead and subscribe to Christian Web Trends so you don’t miss the next 2 posts in the series.

What are your thoughts on the top 3, bottom 3 and 5 most wanted church social media resources?

Are you motivated to get on the solution side of things and either create or collaborate on a desired resource?
