The Christian prayer app, Hallow, will be airing a commercial during Super Bowl LVIII on February 11.
The 30-second ad will feature actors Jonathan Roumie and Mark Wahlberg.
Hallow posted this teaser video to YouTube
The commercial will invite people to pause and pray during the Super Bowl as well as download the Hallow prayer app.
The timing is good as Wednesday Feb 14 is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Part of appeal is that Hallow will help a person develop the habit of praying starting with praying every day during Lent.
The Hallow website has user testimonials such as:
“If anyone wants to start a prayer life, this is the way to go. I went from not praying at all to praying twice a day.”
“This app has been an answer for my weary soul. Tears pour as I try to impress on you how deeply I am impacted by the guidance into simply being with God. This is where my soul is finding peace for the very first time.”
Can God change people’s lives through an app?
The YouVersion Bible app had more than 100 million downloads in 2023 and 12 million people engaging in the Bible each day.
My family has used YouVersion in our family devotion and prayer time for years. God has used it to grow our relationship with Him.
More than anything, Christianity is a relationship between God and his people. The strength of any relationship is in communication. Therefore any tool that fosters communication between God and people (praying and reading the Bible) can dramatically change their lives
Contemplative prayer is nothing else than an intimate sharing between friends. -St. Teresa of Avila
If there’s one downside to the Hallow app it’s the cost. They offer a free one month trial, but after that it’s $69/year.
You could make the case that that’s only about 19 cents a day – Isn’t daily prayer and a growing relationship with God worth far more than that? – but many people will balk at the cost.
Additionally, the app is distinctly Catholic. So, a person’s views on and history with the Catholic church will definitely impact their willingness to install and engage with the app.
I installed it. I haven’t had enough interaction with it to form an opinion, but I look forward to the experience.
