Every great organization has a very clear set of principles it operates by. Have you seen Google’s?
Google refers to them as…
Ten things we know to be true
We first wrote these “10 things” when Google was just a few years old. From time to time we revisit this list to see if it still holds true. We hope it does—and you can hold us to that.
- Focus on the user and all else will follow.
- It’s best to do one thing really, really well.
- Fast is better than slow.
- Democracy on the web works.
- You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer.
- You can make money without doing evil.
- There’s always more information out there.
- The need for information crosses all borders.
- You can be serious without a suit.
- Great just isn’t good enough.
Google explains each principle in greater depth on its website.
Blog Series & Guest Posts
With this post, I’m kicking off a series of blog posts in which we’ll examine each of these principles, one each week for the next 10 weeks.
- Is it really true?
- If so, how does this truth impact us and our organizations?
I’d love to hear a variety of voices and perspectives in this series, so I’m looking for guest bloggers. Do any of these principles really resonate with you? Email support (at) ourchurch (dot) com and tell me which principle you’d like to guest blog about. (And do it quick before someone else gets dibs on the principle you want to write about.)
Kudos to Neal Fischer for making this the topic of this week’s #ChSocM church social media chat
Thoughts?
- Does your church, school, ministry or business have a stated set of operating principles?
- What do you think of Google’s 10 things?

Yes. The list is right from the beginning and it would probably be right forever.
Paul, yes Google is great company. Google sees far and how Google acquired YouTube, Android and they on Top spot too :).
