SEO Quick Tips for NE1: SEO Words

seo-quick-tips-for-ne1-seo-words-200Hello. Welcome to this edition of SEO Quick Tips for NE1. I’m Kurt Steinbrueck, Director of Marketing Services with In this video, we’re going to look at how to set up SEO Words in the NE1 Web Builder. “SEO Words” is a feature in NE1 that allows you to put keywords into the URL, or web address, of any of the pages of your site.

What Do You Mean, “Put Keywords Into the URL?”:
So, let’s take a look here. This is a typical page. You’ve got your address. Now, if you have a free site, you’ve got the “member/d.” In this example, we’re showing a free site. Of course, if you had a domain name, it would look more like this. Which by the way, if you don’t have a domain name yet, look how much cleaner that looks. So, go ahead and get a domain name as soon as you can, because it’s easier to hand out to people and it just looks a lot nicer, more professional.

But anyways, this is typically what the address would look like. You see, it ends with this, “index.php?”, and then a page ID. But there’s no keywords. There’s nothing that’s telling the search engines, “This is what this page is about.” Having keywords in the URL can really help to boost rankings.  So, we want to try to get the keywords in there.

Here are the Steps:
Let’s see how to do that. We’re going to log into the NE1 Web Builder Admin, which we are right here. Then we’re going to click to edit a page; and it doesn’t matter which page you’re going to edit. All of them have this feature. Now, once we’ve got to the area to edit the page, we’re going to click on the “SEO Features” tab. This gives us a couple of different SEO options. We’re actually just going to focus on “SEO Words” for this video.

What we want to do is simply put our keyword into the SEO Words. So “Christian marketing services.” We’re going to say that’s our keyword for this page. So, we just type that phrase in there and you don’t have to worry about putting hyphens or underscores or anything like that. NE1’s going to automatically replace any spaces with hyphens.

A Word of Warning:
The only warning I would give you is just don’t go overboard. Keep it to 1-3 words, not keywords, but one to three words. Otherwise, it starts to get cumbersome for users and it might look a little spammy for the search engines, and we don’t want that. So, just limit yourself to 1-3 words. Try to get your keyword or maybe, if your keyword’s really long, just get part of the keyword or something like that in there.

Once you’ve got the words in there, you just scroll down and click on “Save changes,” and that should do it. Look, there it is. Then we’ll go back and see what it looks like here. Go to the home page and then reload, and there we have it. Right there at the end, we have the keyword that we’re trying to get into the URL, right there in our URL. And that should really help with the search engines.

Checking the Results:
So, that’s how you set up SEO Words. Of course, you can set up different SEO Words for each of the pages of your site. I recommend that you do. It should have to do with whatever that page is about, and if possible, get that keyword in there. But limit it to one to three words. Don’t go overboard.
