You know no matter what kind of organization you are – church, school, non-profit, or business – search engines are the best source of new visitors. So, why are 90% of organizations not doing anything to grab this opportunity?
I talk to people all the time who say ranking well in search engines is very important but are not doing anything to improve their search rankings. The two most common reasons I hear are…
- We “don’t have time” to do SEO
- We don’t have anyone in our org who knows how to do SEO, and we “can’t afford” to pay someone to do it.
To be honest, I use the phrases “don’t have time” and “can’t afford” a lot myself, but I also know in reality it’s not really accurate.
When we say, “I don’t have time to….” what we really mean is it’s not important enough to me to give up something I’m already allocating time to.
Similarly when we say, “I can’t afford…” what we really mean is its not important enough to me to give up something I’m already allocating money to.
It’s Really About Priorities
If you’re going to do your own SEO work, you’re going to have to give up doing something else. So, take a look at how you spend your time and ask yourself if everything you’re currently doing is more important than getting better search rankings. If it is, you can be content with that. If not, then you can make a change and stop doing something else to make time for SEO.
If you don’t have the skills to do your own SEO work, you are going to have to pay a professional SEO to help you improve your search rankings. So, take look at how you spend your money. and ask yourself if everything you’re currently spending money on is more important than better search rankings. If it is, you can be content with that.
On the other hand, you may decide something (or things) in your budget is not really bearing much fruit and its time to prune that in order to grow your search marketing.
Either way my hope for you is to eliminate the “I know I should be doing SEO but I’m not” tension.
Either be content that you are properly prioritizing your time and money or take action!
