"Upon This Rock I Will Build My Church, (Mat_16:18a)."
![]() While some are wishing for the church to somehow grow, others are preparing themselves to be instruments of God in church growth as "fishers of men" (Mar_1:17). We must all work together and each do what he can to help. Hab 2:3 For the vision [is] yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Noah’s Ark Ministries Waging War on Substance Abuse May 25th 2008 John 8:36 “if the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”. Noah’s Ark Ministries stands on this promise and has worked since 1986 to help both youth and adults realize the One truth who can set them free. Although there has bee a recent drop in self-reported drug use amongst teenagers and adults, the problem is still at epidemic proportions. Prescription drug abuse continues to be a disturbing problem for today’s youth and adults In comparison to other drugs, prescription drugs are relatively easy to get, and they are easier to take while in school, at home, and yes, even at church. Parents must take an active roll in their child’s life, Signs to look for in their teenager includes: lost of interest in previously enjoyed activities, such as sports or playing an instrument, a sudden change in friends, especially for older peer groups; change in hygiene’s, either taking less care of self or using hygiene products to cover up smoke or alcohol smells; drop in performance at school or work. While these maybe attributable to other areas, they are concerns that are worth looking into. Many parents wait too long before seeking help; or employer’s are just as guilty. Sometimes, despite our best efforts we need help from others. Seeking help is a healthy approach. The first step is to seek competent outpatient counseling, preferably at a frequency of at least every other week. The next step may be more intensive outpatient. This typically consists of 9 to 12 hours of group counseling per week, The Next step would be seeking a residential or inpatient program. Unfortunately, some areas do not have ideal progression of service available especially a Christian inpatient. We at Noah's Ark Ministries, have had many come who struggle with most every addiction, one comes to mind who we will call Damon, he came to Noah's Ark Ministries struggling with an addiction to heroin and abused several prescription medications. His Father had not been in his life since he was a small child. During a counseling session he expressed the desire to rebuild the relationship. After a time of prayer, Pastor Reis told Damon the he felt he would be able to talk to his father. Shortly after this session, Damon decided to write his father a letter and expressed a desire to rebuild the relationship, including learning more about God together. Damon stated in his letter to his father, “I learned that there is a hole inside all of us that nothing can fill except the Spirit of Jesus Christ God Almighty… I just ask that you find God and allow Him to enter your life”. To his surprise, Demons father wrote him back, and they have begun the process of restoration. This is one example of the many miracles that God performs in the lives of both youth and adults at Noah's Ark Ministries. Here are some of the problems that have been closely linked to alcohol and/ or drug abuse. Some research has indentified that 60% of juvenile offenders are also abusing drugs. We know too, that adolescent drug use is related to recurring delinquency and is the beginning of a cycle that continues into adulthood. We also know that as many 90% of those adolescents are in need of treatment have not received it. In this country this cycle does not have to continue. Too many youth are struggling to succeed due to alcohol and drug related problems. These same youth become the adults who live and work in their community it is paramount that we provide services to these youth to help them have a chance to become successful citizens. In a press release dated may 7th 2007 the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University suggested that we focus efforts on adolescents since “ a child who gets through age 21 without smoking, abusing alcohol or using illegal drugs is virtually certain never to do so”. This in turn improves our schools and reduces the crime rate. There are resources such as Noah's Ark Ministries that are currently working to improve substance abuse addiction problem amongst our youth population. Noah's Ark Ministries was recently blessed with an Anonymous donation that has challenged the community to help impact the lives of youth for generations A one thousand dollar matching donation has been offered to help multiply the gifts that others send in to help build a center to improve and increase those Noah's Ark Ministries can help.
