How to Add Tables in Web Design

Summary of “How to Add Tables in Web Design”

When you need to align text on your webpage, a common mistake beginning web builders make is to use the space bar for the alignment.  The space bar does not work properly for a few reasons.

  1. First, the text won’t always line up correctly and it will add too many spaces between rows.
  2. Second, even if it looks aligned to you, it won’t necessarily look aligned in another web browser.

The trick to properly align your text is to use a table. Adding a table may sound hard to do but it is actually easy! In this quick tip video from Paul Steinbrueck at OurChurch.Com, you can learn how to add tables in web design.  Paul will give easy to follow instructions for those using html code and for those using the NE1 Web Builder, created by OurChurch.Com.

Why Spaces Don’t Work:
To get started, Paul will show you an example of what the text will look like when the space bar is used for spacing.  You will see that the words are not properly aligned and the rows are too far apart.

How to Add Tables in Web Design using HTML:
Then Paul will show you how to build your table. If you are using html code, Paul will show you an example of code, and also give you a website where you can find more information on coding in html.  You can use Paul’s example to set up a table for your own website.

How to Add Tables using the NE1 Web Builder:
For those using the NE1 web builder, adding a table is even easier.  You just enter how many rows and columns you need, and you have a table! You can drag the corners to get the desired size of your table, and then enter in your information.  Once you save your changes, you can see how well aligned the text will be on your webpage.  Your lines will be better spaced, and it will be much easier for your viewers to read.
