Sometimes we have churches that contact us asking for help with their church SEO, and we have to tell them it would be a waste of money.

It’s NOT because their search rankings are already good. (They’re usually not)

It’s NOT because their local/maps listings are all created, verified and optimized. (They’re usually not)

It’s NOT because they don’t need SEO. (They usually do)

It’s because their church website is terrible.  When I say terrible, I’m talking about problems like:

  • Not mobile friendly
  • No cohesive color scheme
  • Extremely long and difficult to use navigation menu
  • Broken or blurry images
  • No images on the website at all

When a person sees a website like this it causes them to want to NOT go to that church.

Optimizing a bad church website for search is throwing time and money down the drain.  Design first, SEO second.

And like we talked about last week, the best option is to work with one company who will design your website with SEO in mind, and then optimize your website while being mindful of the design.

If you’re interested in getting better search rankings so you can reach the people in your community, contact us so we can schedule time to talk, no cost or obligation.  If your website has issues, we’ll be honest with you and tell you what should be addressed before your site is optimized.

What do you think?  Are you taking steps to improve your church’s search rankings? Have you assessed whether your website represents your church well?
