As we wrap up our discussion on WordPress, I wanted to point out a few final thoughts and reminders about WordPress and websites in general:

  • The complexity in operating your website will have a direct correlation to the functionality of the website.  If you only have a few pages of text and images on your website, it will be very simple to manage and update.  However, each time you add functionality to your website, it increases the complexity of the website.  This is true for WordPress or any other website platform.
  • Many “simple” website platforms don’t offer the features or ability to grow like WordPress.  There are plenty of popular website builders that say you can build your website in less than 10 minutes.  And in fact, you can do this with WordPress as well.  However, this quick set up time is for the most basic website.  In addition, many of these quick & simple web builders don’t give you the ability to add higher functionality like Event Registration, Custom Forms, and other features.  They also typically limit the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you can implement which will hinder your ability to rank well in the Google and other search engines, thus limiting the traffic your website will get.
  • Partner with an expert.  You can build a WordPress website on your own, however, just like most everything in life, if you are not an expert in websites, it is best to work with a website company that can help you when you encounter issues that are outside your area of expertise.
