As part of Website Redesign Month, we are talking about the importance of keeping your website’s design current.
First, it is important to understand what a design is.
The design of the website is the overall look and layout of the site. It is usually determined by a theme or template. This design is carried out throughout the entire website. Now, there will be some specific features on the homepage that are not included on other internal pages but the header, footer, and overall look will remain the same on each page of the website.
When we talk about redesigning a church website, we are talking about changing this overall look & feel of the website. If you are using a platform like WordPress or most any other CMS, you can redesign your website by selecting and installing a new theme. When you do this, however, it isn’t as simple as flipping a switch and “Bam!” you have a new design. The new design will likely have new homepage features, so you will need to make sure that you have the new content for your homepage. There are some other more technical aspects of redesigning your Christian website, but they are a bit more in depth than I can go into in this post. If you want to talk to me in more detail, please please contact me here!
All this talk about redesigning your website is great, but why is it important?
The primary reason that it is important is because technology changes so quickly. There are new aspects of web design that are released every year, sometimes multiple times a year. When it comes to your church website’s design, you don’t need to make changes to the latest designs every month or even every year. Although if you wait too long to update your Christian website’s design, your site will begin to become noticed for the wrong reasons. I truly believe…
Your website’s design shouldn’t be noticed.
It should simply make it easy for visitors to get the content they want. However, if it is significantly outdated, visitors will begin to focus on the design instead of the content.
Throughout the month we will talk about other aspects of redesigning your site, how often you should redesign your site, and spotlight some websites that have recently gotten redesigned.
Does your website look outdated? Is it in need of a redesign? Post your comments and questions about your site below?
