For a long time people have been speculating on whether Facebook will create a search engine to rival Google and Bing. As the world’s largest social network, they have a wealth of personal information about people, information about who they know, what they like, what they believe, etc. This is the type of information Google has been pursuing for what 3…4 failed social networks? (Well, I guess Google+ isn’t really a failure…yet).

Up until now, Facebook has always denied that they would create a search engine. They were just going to do social networking. But that appears to be changing. In a recent interview, Mark Zuckerberg (creator and CEO of Facebook), said,
“Facebook is pretty uniquely positioned to answer the questions people have. At some point we’ll do it. We have a team working on it.”
Can They Do It?
It seems Google’s worst nightmare is fast approaching. Then again, there’s a lot that goes into creating a successful search engine as dozens of failed search companies can attest. The question is whether Facebook can do it right.

What do you think?
- Will Facebook be able to unseat Google as the top search provider?
- Should Facebook even be meddling in the search business?
