We haven’t reached the end of October but stores have their Christmas displays in full force (some have had them out since August). And although it bothers me to see how early retail stores start promoting Christmas decorations, gifts, cards, etc, it is a good reminder that it is time to prepare your website for the Christmas season.
Even though Christmas is 67 days away, it is less than 5 weeks from the week of Thanksgiving! Many organizations are closed for a few days (or more) during Thanksgiving week, which means that there is 1 month or less to get everything together for your website that will be used to promote any special Christmas/Advent activities, services, or schedules. For many churches and schools, it takes this long to get everything ready to prepare your website for the holidays.
Below are the steps you need to have completed before the week of Thanksgiving (if not sooner):
- Determine what graphics and text need to be created
- Decide where this information will go on the website
- Assign it to the appropriate people
- Have them create the needed content
- Review their work and send back for any needed revisions.
- Have them complete the revisions needed.
- Review the revisions
- Send finalized content to the webmaster with the dates when the content should be added to the site.
- Have webmaster add new content to website.
For some organizations, all of this may be completed by the same person. However, for other organizations, this may involve 3-5 people, so it is important to get started now!
