Communications Resolution #6: Reuse Content

video-16Hi, I’m Paul Steinbrueck of OurChurch.Com! And in these series I’ve been talking about my 7 Communications Resolutions for 2013#6 on my list is to reuse content, to use the content I create or we create in more than one way…

For example, with a video like this that I create:

  • we can post this video to YouTube,
  • we can post this video to our blog,
  • we can create a transcripts and create article out of that,
  • we can take these entire series and repackage it as a whitepaper or e-book.

And so this is one of the things that I want to do, instead of using content just once and being done with it, find it as many creative uses as possible.

So this is something that you would like to do in 2013 or something you already do. I’d love to hear more about that, how you do that, how you intend to do that?

    • Great thoughts here. I think one important element in creating reusable content is including a great image. For example, if I write a great blog post but don't include an image, then that automatically cuts Pinterest off the list for places to reuse the content (since Pinterest is image driven.) Also, when tweeting about the blog post, including an image can help my audience understand what I'm talking about, especially when searching through a mobile device. Just a few thoughts- what do you think about the important of including an image for reusable content?

      • Summer, that's an excellent point. Additionally, research on Facebook has shown that images are more likely to be viewed than any other type of content. When posting a link in Facebook to a blog post, if you've included an image in the blog post, a thumbnail of that image will appear in Facebook, making your blog post link much more likely to be seen and clicked on. Same is true for G+ and LinkedIn groups.

    • Re-purposing content — heck, yeah! The challenge is re-using without over-using or using it in such a way that it ends up coming across as spam. Now you got me thinking about what to do with my stuff. And Summer is so smart!
