Top 10 Things to Fix on Your Website

Daryl McMullen, web director at Granger Community Church and author of the WebDrivenChurch.Com blog, has been looking at lots of church websites recently and posted 10 things that need to be fixed.  Here’s the list:

  1. Contact information
  2. Color scheme
  3. Multiple navigation menus
  4. Bad pages/links/content
  5. Promotional banners/graphics
  6. The “inside jokes”
  7. Widget Overkill
  8. Basic functionality
  9. Search engine optimization
  10. Overwhelming content

Good stuff.  The full article is worth the read.  Thanks to Kem Meyer for blogging about this and bringing WebDrivenChurch.Com to my attention.

  • I think you are pretty close to being right on with what to consider to ‘fix’ your site. Many of these mentioned items can be overlooked by many websites, church and non. Working at a Web Design Company I see many potential clients such as churches that do not quite understand the so called rules to fix a site. If you do fix it up you will be increasing your traffic and strengthening the reach.

  • Really useful checklist you have hear Paul. I have copied it down and will be using it as I work on my own personal website. Thanks Kevin

  • Seemingly simple information but worth a thousand words and insight. This serves as a good reminder to those who tend to neglect that these can be simple things but can affect greatly.

  • While it can serve as a solid reminder, especially for newbies who tend to overdo things being all gung-ho to lay it all down in one sweep, I cannot exactly define what makes an overwhelming content. If this can be eleborated on the next post, I would appreciate it.

  • Just when you believe you have got everything covered, an article like this, simple as it is, suddenly makes you realize that ooops… right – these are areas that I may be forgetting and can affect tremendously if not addressed correctly.
