Memories of Jim ![]() ![]() Zhtml> This is in memory of my brother Jimmy Alfred Sweatt,"Jiggs" born on earth March 19 1945 and went to glory August 25.1999. Jim had an awesome testimony and I thank God for all that he did in Jims life and the complete turn around that Jim did the day he accepted the Lord. Jim was the oldest of 4 children, him, Fred born April 9 1947, Bud born Nov 15, 1948, then me DJ born Feb 10, 1955. He lived over 20 years for the Lord. He carried his Bible every where he went and God gave him a burden for the aborted children. He drove to Little Rock and back 200 miles roundtrip every Sat to go to the abortion mills and try to keep mothers from aborting their children. He didnt believe in violence, just telling them about the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and where they could get help. He has taken aborted fetuses, some as old as 7 months out of the dumpsters at the abortion mills and buried them in 3 acres of land that a christian brother donated. He made little white crosses for their graves. Jim had one daughter, Andrea Racquel Sweatt born Feb 13 1981 and he loved her dearly. Jim gave up all of his worldly possessions in 1996 and moved to Milwaukee to preach at the abortion mills there. He stayed there for over a year and with Gods help there were many babies saved. He returned to Newport the last of 1997 and was a great blessing to all that knew him. Everyone in this town knew and loved Jim. Jim worked as a landscapper, cutting down trees, etc. On August 16 Jim was on the last branch of a tree that was equvailent to a 7 story building. He had unbuckled himself and asked the father and son helpers that he had to send him up some gatorade. They did and he sent it back down. It all happened so fast that we dont know if he lost his balance or had a heart attack but Jim fell. Immediately he swelled to where he looked like he weighed 400 lbs.He was a small man,5'6 and weighed about 170. They were all so terrified because Jim wasnt knocked out and the drs still cant believe what he did or that he could do this after falling that distance for it crushed all of his vital organs. Jim stood up and asked the man with him to pray that God take the pain away for he was hurt badly. He was conscious when the ambulance arrived and while at local hospital told our mom and his wife and daughter that he loved them. They called a helicopter to take him to St Bernards Hosp in Jonesboro,Ark and on the way there, Jim was praying and the paramedic said that he lost Jim for several minutes. When they brought him back, Jim was praying the same prayer, just like he hadnt stopped. PTL!!!! The paramedic accepted the Lord a few days later. PTL!!!! When we arrived by car at the hospital Jim was in surgery. We started praying and people were everywhere praying for him. The dr came out and told us that he couldnt believe Jim was alive and that he had never seen anyone live with the injuries he has sustained. They kept Jim sedated for 9 1/2 days because they said the pain would kill him. Every day they tried to tell us it was his last until the last 4 days after watching all the people in the waiting room and calling over the phone praying for Jim and hearing how much he loved the Lord, the dr started believing in a miracle also. It was a miracle, the drs say that he lived at all much less 9 1/2 days. I believe that the Lord gave us that time with him to say our good-byes and tell him how much we loved him. The last day they called a code red and we knew immediately it was Jim. They called his family to ICU and told us that Jims heart had stopped 4 times in a matter of minutes. I was the one he had on his right to life and it stated to turn off the respirator if his brain was dead. But PTL!!! I didnt have to make that decision for he died on a respirator and all of his organs failed but his brain. We knew that Jim could hear us the entire time. We told the drs that we knew where Jim was going and if it was God Will to let him go. They let us go in 1 more time to say our goodbys and tell him how much we loved him. His heart quit 2 more times after that and the dr let him go to glory!! We went in as soon as they got all the machines off and out of him to see him again. PTL!!! The drs cant explain it but when Jim left this world the swelling went away also. It was an open viewing and he looked just like himself. All of the damage was internal. I talked to the dr later when he did a surgery on me and he said that after hearing how God had worked in Jims life and to see all the people praying in the waiting room that he believed that Jim was a miracle and might even come thru. He told me that it was a miracle that he lived at all much less stand up after the fall and the damage he sustained. He believes as me that God gave us that time with Jim.I praise God for every minute we had with Jim, even the last 9 1/2 days!!!! GBU,DJ The music on this site was one of Jims favorites, sung at his funeral and engraved on his headstone, "This world is not my home." Thats how Jim felt after accepting the Lord. This world wasnt his home after that, heaven was. GLORY!!! I wrote this to be put on the back of his funeral announcement I miss your smile, your gentle face, and all the things you did with grace. I miss the love from your kind heart, and all the joys you did impart. Each day I fold my hands in prayer and know that you are happy there, Where all is peaceful and serene, where you reign with our heavenly King. This is the poem I wrote and my pastors wife read it, my pastor did the eulogy and his pastor did the funeral service. you were loved like no other. Your life was filled with your love for the Lord above. These babies you saves from abortion, you did with Godly love. You will be missed by family and friends, with a love that knows no end. You were such a Godly man, I watched you study your Bible day after day. I walked you walk the Godly way. I know that you were surrounded by angels that watched over you, and protected you in all that you would do. You were loved by all and I pray that you knew, Our love will never die, daily renewed. I thank God for watching over you all of these years. But I know He needed you with Him, despite all our tears. He has something for you to do to help Him in some way. And I know we will meet again on that special day, Until that day, dear brother, our hearts will never forget you or the sweet things you have done. All that you stood for, our mothers oldest son. Remember that we love you and you're always in our hearts, memories of you will be imbedded, never to depart. So we will not say good-bye. just that we will see you some sweet day. Where we will be together, forevermore to stay. We love you Jiggs, Wrote by Donna (DJ) French 8/99 Jims pastor Paul Evins made a statement at the funeral that he said he had prayed about and would probally be told that it shouldnt have been said. He said I know that if Jim Sweatt is not in the arms of our Father right now, none of us have a chance. This was a very unusual thing for him to say. He knew Jim for all those years and knew him well. He asked me once after an accident that Jim had one year earlier if Jim was going to stay with me. I said I will probally stay with him Paul but I am a christian and Jim doesnt believe in having a radio, tv, etc at all. He said sis, I know that Jesus Himself could live with Jim Sweatt!!He reminded me of this at his funeral where he told me numerous times how much Jim appreciated me and my support because we were the only 2 that were saved and told me that Jim was living with Him now! PTL!!!!! Jim found this in one of my books,"Nelsons Stories, Illustrations, and Quotes and used it alot. Thought it might bless someone. Would you consider abortion in any of the following situations????? 1. There is a preacher and wife who are very very poor. They already have 14 children and she is pregnant with the 15th. They're living in tremendous poverty. Considering their poverty and the excessive world population, would you consider recommending an abortion? 2. The father is sick with a bad cold, the mother has tuberculosis. They have 4 children. The first is blind, second is dead, third is deaf, fourth has TB. She finds out that she is pregnant again. Given their extreme situation, would you consider recommending an abortion???? 3. A white man has raped a 13 year old black girl, and she bacame pregnant. If you were her parents, would you consider recommending an abortion???? 4. A teen age girl is pregnant. Shes not married, Her fiance is not the father of the baby, and he's concerned. Would you consider recommending an abortion????? If you said yes to the first case, you just killed John Wesley, one of the great evengelists in the nineteeth century. If you said yes to the second case, you killed Ludwig Van Beetheoven. If you said yes to the third case, you killed Ethel Waters, the great black gospel singer who thrilled audiences for many years at Billy Graham Crusades around the world. And,if you said yes to the fourth case, you killed Jesus Christ. We lost Jim on August 25,1999.The day after he was buried we took my next to oldest brother Fred to Baptist Hospital in Little Rock for removal of his escophagus due to cancer. He fought a battle with cancer til June 14,2002 when he sucuumbed to it at St Bernards Hospital in Jonesboro,Ark.He will be greatly missed and always loved. I was so sorry to hear of Jims death. He was truly a man of God and a man of courage. We would be out picketing abortion mills and be doing street threatre. It was a startling thing to see. Many people were furious to see us,yet thats what abortion really is.Jim didnt back down on what he believed in and many babies were saved due to what Jim did.He will always be a hero to me.I enjoyed whatever time we spent together. I called him a friend and look forward to seeing him again in heaven.God bless you and may our Lord comfort you in your loss. Carl Knight In all of America's wars, from the Revolutionary war to the war in Iraq, the amount of lives that were lost are less than one and a half million. However, over one and a half million babies are slaughtered in America every year! In eight years (1939-46) Nazi Germany killed 6 million Jews. But Americans kill 12 million babies every 8 years. The atomic bomb killed 115,000 Japanese in Hiroshima. Yet, abortion kills 125,000 babies every month in the U.S. Add up all of the deaths each year from cancer, heart disease, and automobile accidents, and the figures do not total the number deaths claimed by abortion. In this country we have programs for saving whales, owls, wolves, and eagles. Those who are caught shooting or trapping these animals will be locked up or fined. Yet, in our country it is legal to kill an innocent baby. Every godly person is alarmed by the continual growth of wickedness in our nation; for, "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people" (Prov. 14:34). The slaughter of unborn babies is surly a reproach to our nation and an abomination before God. The Scriptures make it plain that the fetus within the mother's womb is a living person-- a child, a baby. Rebeckah conceived twins and the Scripture declares "the children struggled within her" (Gen. 25:21-22). When Elizabeth, pregnant with John, was visited by Mary, "the baby leaped in her womb" (Lk. 1:41). The same term baby is used in the next chapter to speak of the baby Jesus lying in the manger (Lk. 2:12). God used the same terms to describe the born and the unborn. We also see that the Scriptures state that Elizabeth "conceived a son" (Lk. 1:36), then at the time for her to give birth, "brought forth a son" (v.37). Again, God uses the same term to describe the born and the unborn, declaring the unborn to be a living individual. The fact that the baby in the womb has a living human body tells us that it also has a spirit; for "the body without the spirit is dead" (Jas. 2:26). If the unborn child's body is alive, the spirit must be present. The unborn child is a living individual with a spirit given by, and made in the image of, God. Those who defend abortion say the fetus, or prenatal child, is not really a person, but only an appendage to the mother-- no different than a wart, bunion, or tumor. If this were true, there would be nothing morally wrong with abortion. However, the fetus within the mother's womb is a living child, a distinct person from the mother. Thus, to abort a child is no less than murder; for murder is "the intentional killing of one human being by another." God warns against such sin. "Do not kill the innocent or the righteous, for I will not acquit the guilty" (Ex. 23:7). "The Lord hates...hands that shed innocent blood" (Prov. 6:16-17). "Thou shalt not kill" (Rom. 13:9). Murderers will be cast into "the lake that burns with fire and brimstone" (Rev. 21:8). Murder is sin, and abortion is murder. Laws of this nation may give a mother the "freedom of choice" to terminate her pregnancy, but abortion terminates a pregnancy by the extermination of a life-- whether by the hands of a doctor or by means of a RU-486 pill. Abortion may be legal by the standards of men in government, but the determination of what is right and wrong is up to God not men. "We must obey God rather than men" (Acts 5:29); for each of us will one day give an account for our deeds before God in judgment (2Cor. 5:10). Paul Smithson For years,I encouraged Jim to share his testimony about things he had gone through before accepting the Lord.He never would because he thought people would think bad of him.But I feel that God wants us to share what He has brought us through so after much praying about this,I felt led to share his testimony here. Jim at one time,in the late 60's was what people called a hippie and tried numerous drugs. He was caught with 1/2 of a joint of marijuana on him in 68 or 69 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. They decided to make an example out of this case and he was given 5 years in Cummins Prison Facilty. There was a true movis made about this prison called"Brubaker".It was about a warden that had killed many inmates and told their families that they had escaped, used horrible electric currents on parts of their body with a device that he had made and some things too horrible to mention. When Jim was sent here, they had just discovered all of this and had a new warden and they were having the prisoners dig up the graves of the men that the ex warden had killed to notify their families.Jim had to dig up or assist in many of these.Every Saturday,we would drive about 4 hours to see Jim and we hurt worse every time we went for him.My mother had hired an attorney that knew Jim hadnt been given a fair trial. He is now one of our state senators. The first night that Jim was there,a prisoner came up to him and told him that he was going to be broke in,raped by numerous other prisoners. There was a man there that lived in our hometown and our family had known him all of his life.He had alot of power in the prison though a prisoner himself. When he heard about this,he went to the one that had threatened Jim and told him that this wasnt happening. This man also got Jim a job as a barber there for Jim had a beautician's license so he didnt have to dig more bodies.Jim had to stay there for 18 months before the attorney got him a new trial and he was proclaimed innocent. But Jim told me that he never regretted being sent there after he found the Lord because he knew that he was on a wrong road and if he hadnt been sent,it would have led to stronger drugs, sins, etc. For a long time,Jim was bitter about being sent there but after he accepted the Lord he thanked Him for it because he knew that he had been using drugs and was trying harder ones at the time and it would have led to his death eventually.I wanted Jim to share his story with other youths that were headed down that road but he thought that his church wouldnt approve of it,or would look down on him because of it.When Jim accepted the Lord in 1979.he never looked back, always ahead, serving God,reading his Bible constantly, carrying it every where he went.He always had praise on his lips for the Lord.He had a deep burden for the aborted babies and worked hard to try and change this, ministering to pregnant women outside the abortion mills. I have felt led for some time to share this but wanted to obey God.It kept being put in my heart to do it.I pray that someone, just 1 person that reads this and is on this path realizes that we only have 1 option and that is Jesus Christ! He can bring us through anything victorious. It was said at Jims funeral that he used to be what people called a "Bad Boy" boxer, etc and that Jim wasnt proud of his past but knew that he was forgiven.I praise the Lord for giving me such a precious brother. It was also saidat his funeral,by his pastor that there was absolutely no doubt where Jim Sweatt was now, with his Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ ! TY Jesus!!!! ![]() link to I was asked to write a short story from a group on the net.I wanted to share it with all.It is about my brother Jim's fall to his death and how God still blessed thru that tragedy.GB,DJ Zhtml> On August 16, 1999 we received the phone call that everyone fears. My brother Jim, had fallen from a tree, the distance equivalent to a 7 1/2 story building and was being rushed to Jonesboro Arkansas for emergency surgery.Upon arriving at the hospital the paramedics, whom we knew well, living in a small town, came up to us and told us a remarkable story that blessed us even though the situation was grim. They told us that on the helicopter ride, they had lost Jim for several min, that he didnt lose conciousness after the fall.He was praying when his heart stopped and when they brought him back several minutes later he was still praying the same prayer!! The paramedics said they knew that Jim had been somewhere else praying while gone, that they felt he had been in the presence of God that few min.The drs came out and told us that Jim was very critical, they didnt understand how he had even survived the fall and they only gave him an hour to live if that long.Jim had been a devou nt christian for 26 yrs, never looking back after he accepted the Lord and many of his denomination called him a fanatic.PTL!! We stayed at the hospital for 9 1/2 days praying for Jim. There were so many people there, friends, family, etc, that they gave us a waiting room all to ourselves. At any time during those 9 1/2 days, any hour,if someone came in someone was praying. The dr listened to all the stories people told him about things Jim had done for the Lord and he began to believe that Jim was going to survive also. This dr stayed some days 22 hours working on Jim.They never let him come to because they said the pain would be too intense, that all of his organs were crushed.Buit we knew he could hear us,he would squeeze my hand when I asked him if he wanted me to pray.Gangrine began to set in on Jims hands and feet and in a few hours it had gone from his fingers and toes,to his knees and wrists. They began to talk about amputation. My other brothers kept saying that Jim would rat her be with the Lord. We had been praying all along Gods Will in this so we increased our prayers. We heard over the intercom when they called a code blue on him and rushed to I.C.U. They lost Jim 6 times in less than an hour and brought him back. The dr came and asked us what we wanted them to do because though my name was the one on his right to life form,he had stated that he didnt want to be on life support if his brain was dead??? That was the only organ that wasnt dead so his form didnt apply?? We told them that we knew where Jim was going, where he had been headed for 26 years, home to be with the Lord. So the next time his heart stopped, they let him go on home to be with Jesus and our loved ones who had gone on before. The most precious thing we learned after this was that one of the paramedics had accepted the Lord after seeing Jim die in that helicopter ride and come back praying the same prayer. He said that the most awesome feeling came over everyone in that helicopter and they al l knew that Jim had been somewhere else praying!!! This was such an awesome testimony to me that this wonderful brother, just doing what he always did ,praying had helped this man find God!!! He would be so blessed knowing this and I think he does know. We miss him but know that we will be together again one day. I praise the Lord for giving us this peace and comfort in His promises to us. By DJ French 8/12.03 ![]()
