Church History
![]() There are three graves located on the first site. The story was that these three people were buried at night. The church on the first site burned. The school/church was moved about 2 ˝ miles to another site. There it remained the worship place for the Methodist ands the Free Will Baptist. In 1926 the church was moved to the Sipsey Fork School building. In 1959 the church purchased the school building for $35.00 and it remained the church until 1963. There had been talk of building a church back in 1936 but the church as it stands today was not constructed until 1963. Many additions have been made over the years. Sunday school rooms were needed and built. A fellowship hall was built in 1984. The church received a gift from the estate of Mrs. Eva Lee Arnold and the money was used to brick the church. The church remodeled the sanctuary in 1995. In 1999 a parsonage was built on the church grounds. Since 1883 there have been over thirty men of God who have served as pastor. Some served for several years at a time. The church was one of the original twenty members of the Vernon Association of Free Will Baptist, which was organized in 1880. It later was a member of the Stateline Association which was organized in 1904 and is today again a member of the Vernon Association. Church records indicate hard times but also times of devotion to one another. When someone was in distress the church was always there to help. This fact remains true today. Most people refer to the church as “Sipsey Fork Church”. This is because it is located in the Sipsey Fork community. The church was first called Center Point church. When it moved to the Sipsey Fork school it became known as New Center Point Free Will Baptist Church. The only baptistery for the church over the years had been the Sipsey River. Many souls have shivered through this experience. Even though they were cold on the outside, their hearts were warm because of their new relationship with the Lord. A new baptistery was installed in the church in 1990. Whatever the past has held, we still have tomorrow to conquer. So today, as we reflect on the past, we want to look forward to new horizons. We want our children and our children’s children to be able to look back some day with the same prayer we have that Today is the Beginning. ![]()
