II Timothy 4

Paul charges (or witnesses and testifies unto) Timothy, Titus, and the church of Christ before God and the Lord Jesus Christ who will judge the quick (the living) and the dead at His appearing and His Kingdom: that they and us today should preach the Word (herald - introduce, proclaim (as a public crier) devine truth, the gospel, preach (-er), proclaim, publish - to make known, to declare), to witness and testify to the living and written Word of God). That we all be prepared and ready at any moment to share the faith with others; to reprove (to complete fully, to finish), to rebuke (straightly) forbid, admonish (warn), censure (to chide, scold)as one reprimands a child), to exhort (to call near, (be of good)comfort, intreat, invite, beseech, call for, and pray) with longsuffering (forbearance (leniance towards offenders, patient endurance) and doctrine (instruction (the act or the matter), doctrine (the principles or beliefs taught by the church).

For the time will come when they (people) will not endure (put up with, accept, suffer or bear with) sound (well, uncorrupt, true, healthy, safe, wholesome), doctrine (instruction, teaching, priciples or beliefs taught by the church), but will go after (persue after) their own lusts (longings (for what is forbidden), strong urgent desire, sinful, impure desire) and shall heap (accumulate further, seek additional, piled together, amass, surround) to themselves teachers (instructers, doctors, masters), having itching (to scrape, to scratch, to tickle) ears (hearing, the sense of the thing heard, fame, which ye heard, report, rumor) -in other words they will surround themselves with preachers, teachers, doctors and masters that will tell them, report to them, and rumor to them everything that want, desire, and lust after to hear (that will please them and their lustful sensibilities); and they shall turn away (turn away, turn back, bring again, pervert, turn away from (where you are at), from: off, away, separation, cessation, reversal (an about face) their ears (hearing (as above) from the truth (from the true gospel, from the true Word of God), and shall be turned unto (turned to, towards) fables (a tale, a myth, fiction (falsehood, fabrication, untrue), untrue statements or stories, lies. They will allow themselves to be turned away from the truth and unto fables (fairy tales).

But watch (keep sober (abstain from wine), be discreet, be sober, watch, be vigil, alert) all of you in all things (good things, benefit, well), endure affliction (undergo hardships, be afflicted, endure affliction, suffer trouble), do the work (toil, deeds, doings, labors) of an evangelist (a preacher of the gospel, reach people for Christ), make full proof (carry out, accomplish, most surely believe, fully know (persuade) of your ministry (attendance (as a servant), aid, administer, ministering, administration, office, relief, service).

As Paul did, live everyday in readiness to be offered (to be poured out as a libation, to devote your life or blood as a sacrifice (spend), (be ready to) be offered), for anytime your departure (death, home going) may be at hand. Fight (struggle for the prize, contend with the adversary, endeavor to accomplish) a good (valuable, virtuous, worthy, honest) fight (contest, conflict, contention, fight, race) run to finish the course ( your path, your goal in Christ), keep on keeping on in the faith all the way through.

Live that you lay up for yourself a crown of righteousness, which Christ the Lord, the rightous judge shall give to you at your homecoming, which is for all who will love His appearing...those who are looking earnestly for Him to return.

Be ware (be on guard, watch, avoid, beware of) those that do evil unto the brothers and sisters in Christ and work to resist the gospel of Christ of which they speak. Let the Lord reward them according to their works (deeds, labors, toils) but pray to God that it will not be laid (added, tallied, put) to their charge (account), pray for their forgiveness). Remember that the Lord will always stand with you and give you strength that the preaching (ministry of the gospel of Christ) will be fully known (realized, recognized) and that all the unsaved may hear (hearken, understand): and as Paul, you will be delivered from the enemy's attacks and every evil work. He will preserve you unto His heavenly Kingdom. Glory to God for ever and ever. The Lord Jesus Christ be with you in your spirit blessing you with grace....Amen!

It is very popular right now for people to tell you something and then ask..."What part of that didn't you understand?" That is pretty much the way the Word of God is written for us. We need to read God's Word then take some time to think it over...to meditate on what we have just read. If we read the Word and wonder what it actually meant years ago we can easily find out what these words mean.

Paul is letting us all know that each of us are called to preach or speak, share, the Word of God...to speak up for Jesus. To just open ourselves up to tell others about our loving Savior Jesus Christ. Some people will stand behind a pulpit and preach to a group of people and others will just sit with a friend over coffee or start a conversation with someone they bump into. As it says above...introduce...make known...just talk about Jesus.

People today are hungry for God. They know they need something and usually are not sure what that something is. When we love jesus and are really rejoicing over Him, it will bubble out just like Jesus said...it will be like a river of living water flowing out. If you are a Christian just be who you are...they will notice and usually ask you, What is going on with you? Then as Paul said...be prepared...be ready...to say something. Say something to introduce Jesus into the conversation. People will ask you why you are so happy, why you keep going and do not give up, or they will comment that you are not like other people they know. Be ready to say something. That doesn't mean rehearse something to say! Let it be natural. When I hear about a good report I just have to praise God. I do not let anyone interfere with my thanksgiving. That is a testimony and witness to Christ!

Be patient with people and keep sharing the truth of the Word. They may not appear to be hearing you but sooner or later they will. We must be the same towards those in the body of Christ. The Word tells us that some will want to hear what they want to hear. Some will turn away but we cannot let that discourage us. We must be faithful to Christ for we may be part of how they come back to God.

Stay alert, be vigilant. Undergo hardships, trials, troubles, and tribulations by hanging on to the Lord. Continue on in your labors and works for Christ. Keep evangelizing...keep reaching out to people, carry out and accomplish your ministry that God has given you. Lay your life down daily for the Lord. Live as if each moment were your last. Fight the good faith fight, don't give up. be on guard for those that use and abuse. Forgive them and ask God to forgive them as well. Leave them for God to take care of, vengeance is His not ours. Remember that you are never alone. God is always with you, keeping you, helping you, delivering you. Just remember to give God the glory for all that He does for you, with you, and through you.
