SOCIETY OF BLESSED KATERI
![]() FORMATION Inspired by letters of encouragement from His Excellency Bishop Peter Canisius Van Lierde (Vatican City) to promote devotion to and imitation of the virtues of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, eleven Native American Roman Catholics prayed, studied and worked to compile and formulate The Mission Statement and Directives of The Society of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, with the help of one of their Spiritual Advisors. The Society was formally founded by the blessing of the Mission Statement, Directives and first members on JULY 14, 1997, The Feast of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, the First Native American woman considered for canonization by the Roman Catholic Church. MISSION STATEMENT The Society of Blessed Kateri is a religious Association of prayer, Reparation, and works of mercy dedicated to following JESUS CHRIST through the inspiration of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha and her love of JESUS, expressed in a holy life of prayer, reparation and works of mercy. First, a Society of prayer and Reparation for: The salvation of souls, the souls of the dying, the souls in purgatory, and to encourage and promote love and knowledge of JESUS CHRIST. Second, The Society is to bring attention to and encourage people to imitate the virtues of Blessed Kateri's life and her love of JESUS. PRAYER is the greatest work of mercy The Society performs. The members, unified by their constancy and dedication to Jesus and Blessed Kateri, become a power house of prayer, the strength infinite as its source is the Heart of Jesus. The Goal of the Life and Work of The Society's Members is: To do all within their ability to render Glory to JESUS CHRIST, to pray and offer reparation for the salvation of souls by keeping the Society's Commitments, and to promote honor for and imitate the virtues of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, by the Grace of God. WHO MAY JOIN? Any baptized Roman Catholic and any baptized Christian brethren willing to keep and fulfll the Society's commitments. THE COMMITMENTS Each enrolled member promises to faithfully pray the following prayers every day, for their own and The Society's intentions: 1. One Chaplet of The Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin 2. The Blessed Kateri Chaplet 3. Consecration to the Scared Heart of Jesus 4. Canonization Prayer for Blessed Kateri 5. Invoke Blessed Kateri for one's self and the Society at least once a day SUPPORT The Society of Blessed Kateri is autonomous, supporting itself by gift offerings for the hand crafts made by the members and by donations.
