'Onward and upward' and other poems
![]() Do you have skills that the Lord could use to help bring sinners unto Himself, are you willing to let Him use and guide you, or will you just leave these gifts on your shelf? If you haven't challenged yourself today, why don't you go and try something new, come, step out of your comfort zone, your Lord has a job lined up for you! Maybe you are meant to join a ministry or helping your old neighbour down the street, it might be teaching a Sunday School class or sharing Jesus with new people you meet. It could be loving people who are depressed or giving encouragement to those who are ill, only make sure you're listening to your Saviour and prayerfully considering what is His will. Don't let scars and memories stop you, for this is today, do not look back, don't let Satan convince you you're a failure and that the necessary skills you lack! So, just do your best today and tomorrow and understand that you can't change the past, we must ever be going onward and upward until the shores of Heaven we reach at last! Ursula Stouffer, Feb. 7th, 2002 Holding onto Jesus When my body's racked with pain, nightmares haunt all night, when there's nothing else that helps to you I'm holding tight. Lord, keep me through another hour, help me through the day, for Satan's tortures are like nothing if my mind on you I stay. I know with you I'll overcome one minute at a time, and if I'll never be well here, in heaven I'll be fine. Let me hear your love's sweet song, let me hold your hand, oh Jesus, I will never falter while beside me you will stand. And soon enough the day will come when my body will be new, when heaven's gates will open wide and I'll run to you. In your arms I'll feel so safe when my work on earth is done, amazing joy will flood my soul and all pain will be gone. Ursula Stouffer, Apr. 18th, 2002 Safety A baby bird feels safety is under mother's wing, but soon enough he'll fly away his joyful song to sing. The kitten finds security in little Tommy's arms, its eyes are closing, purring softly, feeling love and warmth. For much of the day baby kangaroo has jumping on his mind, but when he gets tired he'll return to mother, where a haven in her pouch he'll find. The little monkey will swing through the trees, in mischief his friend's tail he'll tug, but once in a while he comes back to Mom for the comfort of her hug. For baby there's no place as safe as at his mother's breast, he feels that she'll look after him, so in security he'll rest. But in all the world you'll find no place that greater safety will afford, than to find yourself in the loving embrace of Jesus Christ, my Lord. Ursula Stouffer, Apr. 18th, 2002 ![]() |
