Southwest Association of Missionary Baptist Churches
We are a church fellowshipping with the Missionary Baptist Churches of Texas and the American Baptist Churches.

Our teaching materials and sermons are based on the 1611,
King James Version.

We are blessed with an active Ladies' Auxiliary that meets
regularly for Bible Study and their auxiliary meeting.
There is an outreach to a local nursing home as well as to
teen-agers in a local detention center.
We have recently begun a men's breakfast that meets the
first Saturday of each month.

Our church is a very loving, caring, and dedicated group of
people. It is our desire to win men and women to Christ and
help train them to be faithful and dedicated servants for
our Lord.

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED?
With the abundance of religious organizations declaring numerous means of justification before God it is no wonder that many people don't know how to be saved, that is, how to be right with God. Allow me to ask two questions, Are you saved? Are you sure you are going to Heaven? If you can't say yes to both of these questions then you NEED to know, understand and believe the teachings in this article. Let me first clarify that the Bible, the Word of God is the basis for this article. If you do not and will not believe that the Bible is the Word of God and the teachings in it are reliable then you will not benefit from reading this article.

To begin with the Bible teaches that all people are sinners. Romans 3:23 states, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;". Ecclesiastes 7:20 declares "For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not." We may think we are pretty good as compared to other people but in comparison to God we are not.

We are not sinners because of the acts of sin that we commit, we are sinners because of the fact that we have a sin nature. Romans 5:12 states, "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:". In Psalms 51:5 we read, "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me." We are natural born sinners. Even if we have the desire to live right before God we cannot achieve it. Paul wrote in Romans 7:15, "For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I."

There are those who teach that if we live a good enough life, when we die God will evaluate or judge our works and if they are good enough we will be allowed entrance into Heaven. I don't know the basis of such a belief. the Bible says that we are sinners before God due to a sin nature and it is impossible to live a life good enough to justify ourselves before Him. It is not possible to overcome the sin nature even if we want to.

In addition to being sinners by nature and unable to do anything about it, the Bible states that there is a penalty for sin. Romans 6:23 states, "For the wages of sin is death;...". Ezekiel 18:4 declares, "...the soul that sinneth, it shall die". Do you see the situation we are in? We are sinners, we can't do anything about it but we are going to die because of it. What will it take to save us now?

The answer is this; God himself made the payment for sin. Knowing that man could never justify himself, that he couldn't live a good enough life because of the sin nature, God sent his only begotten son to pay for our sins. Peter wrote speaking of Jesus Christ the Son of God in 1 Peter 2:24 "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we,...". 1 Peter 3:18 declares, "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God...". All that is necessary to accomplish our salvation has been done already but does that make us saved?

No. Two things are required of us; (1) Repentance and (2) faith. Repentance is a turning from one thing and a turning to another. In this case it is a heart-felt sorrow for sin, a turning from it and a turning toward Jesus as the all-sufficient sacrifice for our sin. Jesus taught it from the beginning of his ministry. Mark 1:15 states, "...The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." He states again in Luke 13:3, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." The apostles also taught that repentance is required. In Acts 20:21 we read, "Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ."

Along with repentance the bible teaches that we are to have faith. Faith that Jesus has already done all that is necessary to accomplish our salvation. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that "without faith it is impossible to please him:..." These concepts of repentance and faith are often expressed together in the word believe. John 3:16 is one of the most well- known verses in the bible. It says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.' God gave the supreme sacrifice. All he requires of us is our belief or acceptance of that sacrifice. If we believe in Jesus Christ then we believe in what he said. he said to repent of our sin and accept him as the complete sacrifice for sin.

If you have done that then the bible says that you are saved, that you have eternal life and that you are going to Heaven. Acts 16:30-31 says, "...Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." John 5:24 says, "Verily , verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." In John 14:1-3 Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also."

Jesus has done all that is necessary for you to be saved, receive eternal life and be with him in Heaven. Repent of your sin and pray, asking Jesus to forgive you and save you, believing that he is able to do so.
