Each person can answer this in various ways.
A proud person can indicate what is visible and show the work:

You could encourage your friend for a win-win-win-win-win situation! Your friend's opionion and yours are important. Maybe the items are made to give the maker useful, paid work. Are they useful for many people in other places?In a lot of cultures, if you admire something, you may perhaps receive it or something like it as a sample or gift.
Perhaps then you can show gratitude and say who benefited from the kindness:

(Some translations are quite old fashioned and not useful in today's world.)
