Country Church in the Heart of the City ![]() Evangel Missionary Baptist Church (EMBC) was established April 12, 1989 under the leadership of the late Rev. Elijah McKnight. Services were held for a time in his home. On March 11, 1990, Rev. Andrew Fowler officiated a meeting for the purpose of setting the mission aside as a "Regular Missionary Baptist Church." On August 6, 1991, the Council of Churches met with the Evange congregation to consider the propriety of recognizing the church as a Regular and Independent Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. DeWayne G. Parker was called to pastor in November of 1991. The church worshiped in different places until January of 1996. EMBC finally settled in its first permanent home located off Rhode Island Avenue North East, Washington, D. C. at the intersections of 22nd and Jackson's St. N. E. The church is established having a twelve (12) foundation ministry structure: 1. Administrative Ministry 2. Singles Ministry 3. Family Ministry 4. Christian Education Ministry 5. Recreation Ministry 6. Youth Ministry 7. Men's Ministry 8. Senior's Ministry 9. Women's Ministry 10. Music Ministry 11. Outreach Ministry 12.
