What must I do to be saved?
1. Realize and acknowledge:
"all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
Yes, because of sin all men, including you have come short of God's glorious Son, Jesus Christ.
2. Realize and acknowledge:
"the wages of sin is death," Romans 6:23a
All men die physically but all men do not die spiritually. You can be born again through Jesus Christ and be saved from the penalty of sin which is eternity in Hell. This a place of "fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Rev. 21:8
3. Realize and acknowledge:
"Christ died for our sins," I Corinthians 15:3
Jesus Christ paid the entire price on the cross for your sin. God set the price for sin, which was a perfect sacrifice. We could never pay a debt so high. Knowing this, God Himself gave His own Son to pay the price.
4. Realize and acknowledge:
"the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b
God's free gift is eternal life. You cannot buy or earn this gift. The wonder-
ful truth is that it is simply received by faith. How?
5. Realize and acknowledge:
"...except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:5
The Apostle Paul preached, "...repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus."Acts 20:21 What is repentance? Bible repentance is what occurs when we turn (repent) from our selfish, sinful ways, and see God as he is, the Creator God, absolutely holy and without sin. In our guilt before Him, we then turn to His lovely Son, Jesus Christ as our only hope. In this humbled state we cry out to God for His mercy and salvation.
6. Realize and acknowledge:
"Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
Whosoever means you. If you, by simple faith will trust in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for your soul's salvation you can be saved. Nothing else will do, not church membership, not baptism, not confirmation, nor communion. Nothing can save us from death and Hell but the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.
If you recognize your need and would like to be saved, in your own words pray something like the following sample.
Dear Mighty God, Creator of Heaven, and Earth, and all that dwell there, I humbly bow before you and confess that I am a guilty sinner deserving your punishment in Hell. Realizing that I am hopelessly lost, I now confess my sins to you and believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross, was buried, and rose the third day to purchase my salvation. Trusting that You are hearing this prayer, I now ask you to save my soul, and give me new life. Thank you for the gift of eternal life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
