God is Faithful
Jesus can do anything
It was a Miracle Service, when I suddenly became aware of the fact that a young lady was walking from the back of the auditorium down the main aisle ¡V at first slowly, and then after reaching a certain distance, she almost ran.

Not expecting the incident, I stood watching the young woman, wondering just what she was going to do and the cause for her action.

When she came to the front steps leading to the platform, instead of walking up those steps, she stopped directly in front of the first step and dropped to her knees, seemingly unconscious of anyone else in the auditorium, she was not even aware of my presence. Covering her face with her hands, she began to sob until her entire body shook with emotion ¡V the tears running down her arms and dropping on the steps before her. As long as I live, I shall never forget this sight, for if ever I saw a penitent soul ¡V if ever I witnessed real sincerity ¡V if ever I saw desperation ¡V it was that moment.

Slowly I walked to where she was kneeling, and we knelt together. In that moment I felt that any word I might speak would be superfluous, for already she had made her contact with God. Tenderly I put my arm around her shoulder and spoke quietly, ¡§What do you want Jesus to do for you?¡¨ My question was answered with just one word: ¡§Dope!¡¨ she said no more.

We were both totally unaware of the fact that there were anyone else near us, and in that moment it was as though Jesus himself became so real that all we needed to do was to reach out and touch Him. And then softly I said to her, ¡§You and I know that Jesus can do anything,¡¨ and she answered. ¡§That¡¦s why I am here.¡¨

Continuing, I said, ¡§I¡¦ll pray a simple prayer, and you pray it after me, and when you pray these words, mean them with all your heart.

¡§Dear Jesus, I confess I am a sinner,¡¨ and she repeated the words after me.

¡§I throw myself on your mercy ¡V please help me! I give myself to you completely ¡V take away this desire for dope ¡V take it out by the very roots.¡¨ Each time she repeated the sentence firmly, distinctly and with a relinquishment to God which could not be mistaken. By the time she had finished the last words of this simple prayer, she had ceased crying; there was no more sobbing; there was no emotion ¡V the transaction had been completed ¡V and we both knew it.

That was absolutely all that anyone standing near could have seen or heard. But a transaction had taken place which was witnessed by all of heaven, and I believe that even angels witnessed that scene, for the greatest transaction that a human being can ever experience, had occurred. The very thing that Jesus died for had taken place in the body and in the life of that young woman: she had been set free not only from sin, but from the very power of sin.

I am quite sure that this entire experience took no longer than five minutes, and with the mascara smeared on her face, she stood looking like an angel. Quickly and spontaneously, I laughed and said: ¡§You look like a different person¡¨ ¡V and just as spontaneously she replied: I am a different person!¡¨

With assurance, with confidence, with the knowledge of forgiveness of sins, and with a complete sense of her release, I stood and watched her as again she walked down that main aisle and up to her seat in the balcony, from where she had come.

We continued with the Miracle Service. Little did I know the story behind that marvelous experience: little did I know that kneeling there that moment was a young woman who had been in every hospital in Pittsburgh with the exception of one. And not only had she been in each of these hospitals not once but several times, but she had also been committed to Mayview State Hospital near Pittsburgh, where she had undergone treatment for nearly a year.

She came to the service, knowing full well that God was her last hope ¡V the only ray of hope left ¡V before her formal commitment for narcotic addiction. That was the reason she was so desperate: it was virtually a life and death matter with her when she walked down that aisle of the auditorium and knelt at the bottom step; that was the reason she was completely oblivious to the crowd, for Jesus was her only hope, and if He failed her, she had nothing left.

God saw what no human being could see: the sincerity, the willingness, the surrender, the desire ¡V with every atom of her being crying out to Him for help and deliverance.

¡§Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear Him.¡¨

When the doctor at the institution had been informed regarding that which had happened, he was astonished.
¡§This is the most wonderful thing I have ever heard,¡¨ he said. And then he added ominously: ¡§But she¡¦ll be back.¡¨
That was five years ago, and Rose has not ¡§been back.¡¨ Since then, she has had free access to narcotics at a local hospital during the tine that she was employed there: she was not even remotely interested, let alone tempted.
