Why Can't We Forgive Ourselves ![]() God made us, He knows our hearts. I don't know anyone who has never done a wrong. I don't know anyone who hasn't acted impulsively and regretted it later. Are there punishments? Yes, in some form or another, there usually are. Are we to punish our selves and dwell on it? What purpose would that serve? Jesus suffered and died on the cross because He knew us, and our sins. He knew then what we would do now. He shed His precious blood so that we could be forgiven. All we have to do is ask Him. 1 John 1:9 (KJV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. So, why won't we ask Him to forgive us? Why won't we forgive our selves? Mostly because we feel unworthy to be forgiven. We have been told that we are useless. We have been looked upon as an inconvenience to those who were supposed to love us. The reasons are many. We lived in that for so long that we have wrapped "worthlessness" around ourselves like an electric blanket. It has become part of us. "Worthlessness" is a yoke. It is a heavy burden that a Child of God needlessly carries. Jesus said: (Matthew 11:28-30) Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Jesus gave His all so that you could have peace. He took on unrighteousness so that you could obtain righteousness. He didn't ask you if you were worth forgiveness. He offered it to you willingly because He loves you. You have to accept it. (to be continued) Why Can't We Forgive Ourselves? part 2 "But I can't.", alot of us will say. No, you are right, you probably can't, not on your own. But God can help you. With God All Things Are Possible. (Mark 10:27) What is it that we as humans can do that God won't forgive us? Murder maybe? Moses, Paul, and David were all guilty of murder yet God chose to use them. How about fornication or adultery? The woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11) and the woman "sinner" (Luke 7:37-50) both were granted forgiveness by Jesus. No one sin is worse than another. We have been given a new life through Christ. In order to grow in Him, we've got to let go of all the junk that clouds our minds. Colossians 1:20-22 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled, In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblamable and unreprovable in his sight: Don't be an enemy to yourself. Forgive yourself as Christ has forgiven you. You are wonderfully made, why not live that way? ![]() |
