I. FIRST PROPOSAL FOR THE NATIONAL SEAL OF AMERICA, 1776:
THOMAS JEFFERSON, MEMBER OF THE GREAT SEAL DRAFT COMMITTEE, PROPOSED IN 1776:
"The children of Israel in the wilderness, led by a cloud by day, and a pillar of fire by night." (3,24)+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
EXODUS 13:21-22:
"And The LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:
He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people." (1)

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, MEMBER OF THE GREAL SEAL DRAFT COMMITTEE, THEN PROPOSED IN 1776:

EXODUS 14:19-20&27-28:
"And The Angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them:
And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel: and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that the one came not near the other all the night.
And Moses stretched forth his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to his strength when the morning appeared; and the Egyptians fled against it; and The LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea.
And the waters returned, and covered the chariots, and the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them; there remained not so much as one of them." (1)

II. THE U.S. CONGRESS ADOPTS THE EAGLE FOR THE AMERICAN NATIONAL SEAL, 1782:
GEORGE WASHINGTON, 1788:
"No Country upon Earth ever had it more in its power to attain these Blessings...Much to be regretted indeed would it be, were we to neglect the Means and depart from the Road which Providence has pointed us to, so plainly; I cannot believe it will ever come to pass. The Great Governor of the Universe has led us loo long and too far...to forsake us in the midst of it...We may, now and then, get bewildered; but I hope and trust that there is good sense and Virtue enough left to recover the Right Path." EZEKIEL 17:3-10:
"And say, Thus saith The LORD GOD; A great eagle with great wings, longwinged, full of feathers, which had divers colours, came unto Lebanon, and took the hightst branch of the cedar:
He cropped off the top of his young twigs, and carried it into a land of traffick; he set it in a city of merchants.
He took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful field; he placed it by great waters, and set it as a willow tree.
And it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward Him, and the roots thereof were under Him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.
There was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend her roots toward Him, and shot forth her branches toward Him, that He might water it by the furrows of her plantation.
It was planted in a good soil by great waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.
Say thou, Thus saith The LORD GOD; Shall it prosper? Shall He not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it wither? It shall wither in all the leaves of her spring, even without great power or many people to pluck it up by the roots thereof.
Yea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? Shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? It shall wither in the furrows where it grew." (1)

SAMUEL ADAMS, 1794:
"I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world...that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bring in the Holy and happy period when The Kingdoms of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the sceptre of Him who is The Prince of Peace." ISAIAH 40:27-31:
"Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from The LORD, and my judgement is passed over from my God?
Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, The LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of His understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon The LORD shall renew their strength; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (1)

III. WARNING OF JUDGEMENTS
THOMAS JEFFERSON, 1781:
"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the Gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed, I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever." DEUTERONOMY 8:11-20:
"Beware that thou forget not The LORD thy God, in not keeping His Commandments, and His Judgements, and His Statutes, which I command thee this day:

And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget The LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;
Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpians, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

PATRICK HENRY, 1776:
"...Whether this (the separation of England and America) will prove a Blessing or a Curse, will depend upon the use our people make of the Blessings, which a gracious God hath bestowed on us. If they are wise, they will be great and happy. If they are of a contrary character, they will be miserable.
Righteousness alone can exalt them as a nation. Reader! Whomever thou art, remember this, and in thy sphere practice Virtue thyself, and encourage it in others." (2,3,40)

IV. TO HEAL THE NATION:
GEORGE WASHINGTON'S PRAYER FOR AMERICA, 1783:

"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; and Thou wilt incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field.And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.
Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen." (2,3,10,14)

Though not worthy to appear before Thee, because of my natural corruptions, and the many sins and transgressions which I have committed against Thy Divine Majesty; yet I beseech Thee, to admit me to render Thee deserved thanks and praises for Thy manifold mercies extended toward me... Bless the people of this land, be a Father to the fatherless, a Comforter to the comfortless, a Deliverer to the captives, and a Physician to the sick. Let Thy blessing be upon our friends, kindred and families. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our Faith.

SAMUEL ADAMS, AS OUR FOUNDING FATHERS SIGNED THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, PROCLAIMED IN 1776:
