New Victory Bible Institute: Description: NVBI is a ministry of Partnership of Kenya Center For World Evangelism and New Victory Fellowship focused on training national pastors in Africa. The mission strategy of our ministry school involves the mandate to work with the national church of every country that the Lord opens up to accomplish the following three goals (our main priority will be placed on accomplishing the third goal): Ø The Gospel for every person Ø A Church for every people Ø A Trained Pastoral Leader for every church Personal: since 2002, Bishop Simon Mac Onyango has taken 78 short trips (ranging from 2 to 4 weeks usually, and up to 8 weeks sometimes a year) for the purpose of training national pastors in Kenya, the Southern Sudan and parts of Tanzania. Philosophy The philosophy of training of NVBI involves going to strategic locations in countries around the East and Central Africa with the purpose of establishing ministry training centers for the equipping of national pastors. These centers become teaching stations for pastors to get a basic training course for the pastorate and further training as well. NVBI provides short-term training institutes (1 week to 10 days) at these training centers as well as long-term training modules (1 to 3 years). The initial phase involves the training of key leaders who head up these training centers in their own localities and countries. The main purpose of each training center is to train as many pastors non-formally as possible with the ultimate goal that every church would have a trained pastoral leader. Operations The operation policy of NVBI involves establishing Bishop Simon Mac Onyango and the Kenyan Apostolic team of eight Pastors who make up the board of missions as the core leadership of the ministry who also function as the initial personnel of the corporation. Bishop Simon O. Mac Onyango functions as the president and CEO of KCWE/NVBI and director of training for national pastors, recruiter of trainers, and relational support with other churches in lieason with Bishop Ruby Anderson. All personnel function under the supervision of a Missions Board who meets semi-annually to approve the major ministry directives and financial commitments of the ministry for each year. The financial accountability and ministry accountability reports are presented to the Board for a yearly budget review and projections for budget approval for the following year. There is also a national director of KCWE/NVBI in each country where there are ministry training centers. This person is funded by NVBI only on matters related to ministry but he/she raises his/her support like all other training personnel of EASM in the future depending on the national context. Under his direct oversight are all of the training center directors in that country. Each of the training center directors functions on the KCWE/NVBI National Training Committee in that country to assist the national director of NVBI in the oversight and operation of these training centers. Each training center has a committee of interdenominational pastoral who functions as the administrative team to help establish the training center in that city. Guidelines for Ministry Training Coordinators for New Victory Bible Institute The following comprises the ministry guidelines for the training that takes place through the NVBI. A. The invitation to do the training needs to be initiated by indigenous national pastors within a country and needs to be hosted by national pastors as well. The goal for each country that NVBI chooses to do ministry training is to identify a key indigenous pastoral leader who functions as the NVBI national director. NVBI seeks to assist national leaders to set up ministry training centers to train national pastors in such a way that ultimately, nationals train nationals to be more effective in their ministries. B. The training team seeks to partner with national leaders, mission agencies, and local churches within and outside Africa to facilitate the training institutes and long-term curriculum for these pastors and church leaders by providing the following five goals: a) Short-term training trips to provide specific ministry training b) Needs analysis of pastoral training needs via surveys/interviews c) Long-term focus on specific training centers in the country d) Providing decentralized non formal training through many such centers e) Empowering national leaders to manage and operate these centers C. The NVBI Director and Dean looks for key trainers to go to countries where the training takes place to put together a training team of expatriates and indigenous leaders for the short-term institutes. D. The plan is to do short-term institutes in strategic countries where there is a significant deficiency of pastoral training and an interdenominational commitment to see this training take place. There also needs to be a lack of training centers available to meet this need. The strategy is to establish ministry-training centers or come alongside existing ministry-training centers for the equipping of national pastors. E. The ministry training provided is in accordance with the doctrinal essentials of the doctrinal statement of KCWE/NVBI. Partnering with churches and people to train national pastors in East Africa and the Great Lakes Region of Africa Who We Are: NVBI is a small but growing ministry school of that started as East African School of Ministry devoted to training national pastors throughout East Africa and the great lakes region. It started in the fall of 2002 in response to the enormous need of providing ministry training to pastors in East Africa and the Great Lakes region of Africa. As at this date the school has trained 167 pastors and missionaries who are serving as full time ministers among their native tribesmen or wherever they have been called but mainly in the Southern Sudan. Why We Do It: There are more than two million pastors in the East Africa, the Great Lakes region and the sub-Sahara and most of them (95%) have been evangelized and established as pastors in local churches without any ministry training. It is our firm belief that the church can only advance as far as its leaders can take it, and in many cases in undeveloped countries, the church is lacking NOT in evangelism or in church planting, but in the training of its pastors. What We Teach: NVBI focuses on training national pastors in Bible and theology, expository preaching, prayer and worship, evangelism and discipleship, church planting, leadership development, pastoral ministries, and missionary outreach. How We Do It: The strategy of NVBI is to seek to partner with individuals and churches in the developed world that are interested in helping to train pastors in Africa. The philosophy of our training involves inviting form the developed world with relevant ministry experience for short-term mission trips to East Africa and going to strategic locations and missions stations we have established as our training centers in East Africa and the Southern Sudan the purpose of establishing ministry permanent centers for the equipping of African pastors What We Seek to Do: The main purpose of the training program is to train as many pastors non-formally as possible in each of the African country and award them diplomas and relevant certifications including commissioning and or ordinations where possible with the ultimate goal that every church in East Africa and around the great lakes region would have a trained effective pastoral leader. The New Victory Bible Institute model in Eldoret, Kenya When we opened a traditional Bible School which although it was good, it did not achieve the hoped for results in terms of many graduates going on to plant new churches and engage with cross-cultural mission with most of our 2004 graduates. Two years ago Bishop Simon O. Mac Onyango proposed and implemented the discipleship-based model as opposed to the traditional Bible School and since then the 2004 graduates have opened more than 18 new Schools of Ministry in Kenya and 2 in Sudan. The goal of partnership of Kenya Center for World Evangelism and New Victory Bible Institute is to open 10,000 Schools of Ministry across East and Sub Sahara Africa by the year 2010. We are well on the way. This is how the NVBI in Eldoret works: 1. Applications are taken for the next course. 2. A simple selection procedure of up to 15 students per course takes place. 3. The School program is offered part-time, daily for eighteen months in any available room, no expensive special facilities needed. The atmosphere is outward looking to unreached peoples and the nations, and the expectancy is that many students will go and open a new School elsewhere, form a new church around it, or at the very least return to their home churches as better equipped men and women to serve. 4. Graduation: Every graduate is officially authorized to repeat the training in another location of his or her choice and is issued with all credentials for the purpose. In effect the student becomes the teacher. A copy of the School materials we is made available to the prospective teacher. This is the key to growth. 5. The graduates return to their home church. The home church becomes a mother church by sending out the graduate to repeat the School of Ministry in another urban or rural locality, or over the border in another country. The process then repeats . . .The new free School of Ministry is advertised by word of mouth. Applications come in, students are selected. The new School repeats the program part-time in 6 to 24 months. The graduate has become the director/teacher/pastor. The free training inevitably brings about prayer, outreach, worship and fellowship, which are consolidated into a daughter church, which are supported by the mother church. Graduation Day. At the graduation day since we do not have a facility of our own, students are encouraged to contribute through hire graduation gowns which goes for 200/=. We use the money to rent a temporary facility preferably a conference where the ceremony will be performed. After graduation, our graduates are authorized to repeat the training in another location. Again some students go and become the next teachers/pastors. 6. Meanwhile the NVBI at Eldoret holds another course . . . see step one. KCWE EVANGELISTIC CAMPAIGNS KCWE conducts city wide evangelistic crusades and rallies taking the good news of Jesus Christ outside the church walls to the unreached and unbelieving people in different cities both within and outside Kenya. KCWE is currently expanding its international ministry in many countries in East Africa, Central and Southern Sudan. The ministry is committed to the clear, uncompromising Gospel of Jesus Christ. The mission of KCWE city wide crusades is to reach the city, to target areas of the city with prayer, and a variety of outreaches including church planting initiatives. l KCWE places special emphasis on Baptism because it brings new believers into the church (1 Corinthians 12:13) and defines their relationship to the church STATEMENT REGARDING GIFTS We, at KCWE in Partnership with NEW VICTORY FELLOWSHIP live solely by faith.
