New Life Church Of God
Joshua, Caleb, Esther, Gideon & Deborah Houses
Joshua House - 1st Men's Transitional Recovery Home
Joshua House - 1st Men's Transitional Recovery Home
The Joshua House was the first men's transitional drug and alcohol recovery housing facility in Jackson County, Arkansas. The Joshua House was dedicated to the Lord on October 31, 2004. People magazine, in a past article, reported that Jackson County, AR. had the largest number of methamphetamine manufacturers per capita in the United States. The Joshua House was a residence that was renovated to help the many men that are battling their addictions. We had a God inspired vision that showed Newport and the surrrounding communities and area drug free with former addicts living, not under the scourge of drug use, but rather living productive lives with responsible jobs. We help the residents find employment and further their education so that they can find themselves a career. The Joshua House is capable of supporting eight men and is currently fully occupied. Our graduate rate is very successful with very few individuals failing to complete the program. The men begin and end each day with devotion and Bible studies. During the week, the men work on commnunity, church or Project New Start job assignements. All the men are required to attend church services and Tuesday Night Breakthrough Meetings. The transitional recovery program is designed to be 6 months in length. The men that are in the Joshua House come from all walks of life, but they have one thing in common, the deisre to change their lives through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. As Joshua ended up leading the Isrealites from the last vestiges of bondage into the promised land, the Joshua House helps lead men who were in the bondage of addiction and sin into a new life through our Savior Jesus Christ.
Caleb House - 2nd Men's Transitional Recovery Home
An attorney in Newport purchased this house so that it could be utilized for a second men's transitional recovery home. The Caleb House was opened in September of 2005 and dedicated to the Lord on October 31, 2005. The Caleb House is capable of supporting seven residents. The Caleb House, like the Joshua House, is utilized to help the many men that are in bondage to their addictions and want to be set free. We help the residents find employment midway through the six month program as a part of their recovery program. We encourage the residents to further their education and if any resident does not have their high school diploma or GED, in conjunction with the Arkansas State University at Newport, GED classes are offered and required. Daily devional and Bible studies are held each morning and evening to provide guidance in Christian living. The men in the Caleb House come from different backgrounds, but they have one thing in common, the desire to change their lives through faith in Jesus Christ. They learn to live by the scripture that is written on the outside wall of the Caleb House, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." - Proverbs 3:6
Esther House - 1st Women's Transitional Recovery Home
When we first started praying about the transitional recovery homes, a decision was made not to open a women's facility. Yet after much praying and fasting, ground was broken on the Esther House. On October 23, 2006, the Esther House became the first women's transitional recovery home and was dedicated to the Lord on October 31, 2006. Hallelujah! This house can help 10 women at a time in their battles with their addictions. We have also been blessed with a live-in house mother who is a former resident of the Esther House and a program graduate. She has walked a mile in their shoes and knows the problems they have faced and can truly minister to the Esther House residents. All our prayers have been answered. Each day the women residents start the day with a morning Bible study led by greatly appreciated women volunteers from this community and the surrounding communities. After the morning Bible study, the women go to work on various community, church and Project New Start job assignments and projects. At nighttime, the women go an evening Bible study unless a church service or Breakthrough Meetings are scheduled. It is so gratifying to be able to help those women who want to change their lives, to be able to help those women who want to raise up their children in a Christian home, and to be able to help those women become productive mothers, wives and memebers of our communities and society again.
Gideon House - 1st Men's Assisted Living Home
The Gideon House is the first men's assisted living home. The Gideon House was donated by a wonderful, caring local businessman. Renovation of one apartment has been completed and currently four recent graduates reside in it. Renovation of the other three apartments in the Gideon House is ongoing. The ten commandments have been posted on the exterior of the house. As the Gideon House is located on the main thoroughfare in the City of Newport, AR., everybody that drives down that busy road can see God's Word displayed for all to see. Assisted living homes are vital in the continuing recovery of those who have graduated. With assisted living homes, graduates no longer need to rent a place in an apartment complex where drugs and alcohol are prevalent and rampant. No graduates have the opportunity to live in a Christian home continuing their daily walk with Christ, free of temptations.

Deborah House - 1st Women's Assisted Living Home
The Deborah House is the first women's assisted living home. Project New Start bought the house and renovated it so that women graduates could have a place to stay after completion of the program. The house has a capacity of four women and currently three women are residing there. In a small community where limited apartments are available, it is vital to have a place for graduates to continue their walk with Jesus. At the Deborah House, women graduates can live in a clean sober, loving Christian home where each sister in the Lord can help each other every hour, every day. We ask you to pray for these women who have turned their lives around and who have become good, God fearing productive members of our community and society again.
