WATERMELONS
OH, Those crazy, Lazy days of summer. I have been watching Watermelons being sold alonside of the road. I finally started getting me some. I love Watermelons. It comes from my West Virginia up-bringing.
I was raised by an OLD country couple, and they both gardened, and canned, and grew produce to sell.
My Daddy had the very best produce in town. Poeple came from miles around for his Watermelon. They were .50cents a piece. Cantelopes were a quarter a piece. My Watermelon (Seedless) was $3.00. My Cantelope was $1.75 and it was so small. Not like my Daddy grew.
The reason I wanted to chose Watermelons as my subject is to share with you what I just discovered in my life.
I don't remember ever seeing Seedless Watermelons when I was a child. I guess there were some but Daddy didn't raise any.
I have discovered that Watermelons can teach us a lot about life. First I had to have one of those Seedless Watermelons. I thought it might help me find another reason to be lazy. As a kid, I couldn't wait to prove just how far I could spit a Watermelon seed. Now I just think seeds are a waste of time.
Then I learned that the taste of that seedless Watermelon wasn't anything like the ones I had growing up. It was NOT nearly as sweet and wonderful as the ones I remember.
I ended up going to the supermarket and buying a Watermelon with SEEDS. It was $4.00, but it was so sweet and deliscious. Now God had used my desire for a fresh Watermelon to teach me a great lesson. I learned that life is like a Watermelon. It is full of SEEDS and it takes a little time getting use to, but if we didn't have the seeds...would life still taste as sweet?
