Stories of victims and perpetrators ![]() Jonah did not listen to God's plan and made himself vulnerable to the sailors on the boat to Tarshish. The Bride in the Song of Songs made herself vulnerable when she went looking for her "missing" husband alone on two different nights. 2550 - If you find him...tell him I am faint with love. Two similar city searches with different endings! She was the victim in one. Jacob was a victim of Laban. Jacob tried to better his situation, but "ran away" when God told him to. With God's grace Laban's ruses were turned on himself. Jacob was not "missing" to himself, but he was "missing" to others. 2555 - Jacob was missing! Laban pursued him for 7 days and caught up with him. "Human loot" people are victims of others...perpetrators. These are quite about their activities. 2587 Missing human loot Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come? Isaiah 42:23 Jesus was a victim of others. He was dead and "missing" to his friends, especially a woman who was crying. Jesus was sensitive and asked, "Why are you crying?" He LISTENED to the answer. Pray about those that worry unnecessarily and those that want an answer to "Why are you crying?" because there is someone truly missing. 2588 - Not really missing!? Reassuring words when someone important just has to leave for a short while. The concubine was a victim of a gang of wicked men of the city. She was searched for by her husband even though she had been unfaithful to him. When their host home was surrounded by the gang, the host offered to hand her over to them (expecting them not to want her). When he was afraid, her husband actually handed her over. She was abused all night and left for dead. She found the inner strength to crawl to her host's home of safety and made it to the threshhold, whimpering for help. She could have used a helping hand really early that morning. 2590 - 2 out of 3 travelers saved by friendly city man! One was gang raped and left for dead by some of the wicked men of the city! Creditors took children away. They were often missing for the parents. But...the astute widow had a plan so her children wouldn't be victims. 2591 Elisha wasn't always around...when creditors came for children. Any truly persistent widow with an adversary would also have a judge and ally. The innocent babies were victims of Herod. 2607 A voice was heard...they are no more. Herod's unavoidable order and the innocents. The baby boys would be victims of Pharaoh's insecurity. They would have been victims, if the midwives listened to him. 2608 Why have you done this? Why did you let the baby boys live? Baby Moses and his life conspirators who all offered: "Take this baby." Jesus was victim of others. There were the cogs in the system. Each person responsible had a different motive. The individuals in the crowd, Pontius Pilate, Herod, the centurion, the crossmaker, the nailmakers, ... some jealosy, some fear, some indifference, some desperation... All these people were more influential and make Jesus a "victim". (He didn't call on angels.) 2623 Mary was at a distance when Jesus was dying. Jesus' words were recorded. He forgave many. Mary must have been told. (Missing gamblers too!) Naaman's wife's servant girl was a "missing" victim of war. She lived in "luxury". In the home of a leader. In a cushy situation. She may not have had it "better" at home. But it didn't matter her circumstance--she was kind and knew about God and the healing power through Elisha. 2624 Missing child with no say had quite some eloquence in another tongue! She was trusted and blessed the household of her owners. Remember Joseph who was bought! God bless you to encourage you today and always. ============================================================= Pray about perpetrators. Pray that God will show them his plan for each of them. May they receive a soft heart for repentance. Do pray for God to show His mighty Face to perpetrators that are responsible for missing people that should not be. Lord Jesus Christ, show them the way to repentance. Thank you for forgiving those that repent and encouraging all in your plan. Amen. Jonah and the sailors who each called out to his own god were the more obvious perpetrators in the whale story. 3041 - Jonah ran away! An urgent call to God for Nineveh-types and runaways. Onesimus was the agent himself who was responsible for going missing! He ran away leaving a negative situation behind. 2396 - Vouching for a rehabilitated runaway... An interesting reference letter Laban was a perpetrator of "missing" people, because he did not treat people justly. He was possessive. He suffered "missing" others himself, after a neutral two family enquiry. Would he have been different had he known the outcome? 2555 - Jacob was missing! Laban pursued him for 7 days and caught up with him. Could perpetrators themselves become victims and become the lowest of the low among missing "human loot"? 2587 Missing human loot Which of you will listen to this or pay close attention in time to come? Isaiah 42:23 A gang of wicked men were perpetrators of sexual crimes in Gibeah. They surrounded homes at night. They made the city square an unsafe place for anyone and especially travellers. They abused people all night and left them half dead. After all that, their tribe did not give them up to justice. They rather fought a war with their fellow tribes. 2590 - 2 out of 3 travelers saved by friendly city man! One was gang raped and left for dead by some of the wicked men of the city! Would the creditors be perpretrators? If they were successful taking the children from the widow, their job would be done. They wouldn't care, if the children went "missing", would they. 2591 Elisha wasn't always around...when creditors came for children. Any truly persistent widow with an adversary would also have a judge and ally. Herod was the long-distance perpetrator. His soldiers were those that did the deed of killing the baby boys in Bethlehem. The babies were surely "missing" forever. The soldiers were predators--unwillingly or with gusto. Herod had no morals. He had no compunction in marrying his brother's wife. He had no compunction to lust after his wife's daughter. He did have compunction to kill John the Baptist, because he was afraid of him and his God. He didn't harm him fatally, but put him in jail. But Herod ended up giving the order to have John-the-Baptist murdered anyway, because of a foolish vow that "trapped" him--a deed again from "afar"--from a safe "long-distance". Herod was afraid of what people might say...or he would have said that he did not have to honour his vow after all. Herod only saw the aftermath of his violence when John's head was brought in to him on a silver platter...already "sanitized". Did he then loose any sleep? Did he ever repent? 2607 A voice was heard...they are no more. Herod's unavoidable order and the innocents. Pharaoh was perpretrator of ordering death of babies being born. Their lives would have been "missing" forever. He also assigned the task "long-distance" to the midwives. But these refused. 2608 Why have you done this? Why did you let the baby boys live? Baby Moses and his life conspirators who all offered: "Take this baby." Who were the perpetrators of Jesus dying on the cross and being "out of reach" for Mary and the other believers? All people--because we are all sinners. Those that shouted, "Cruxify him." had their part. Pontius Pilate had his part. Herod had his part. The crossmaker(s) had a part. The nailmaker(s) had a part. The scattered and fearful disciples had a part. The jealous people in the religious leadership had a part. Ignorant people had a part. Naaman was a perpetrator, because he took captives during a war. How did he get leprosy? Was someone nasty and gave it to him deliberately? Did he get it just like any other person could be in contact with it? It seems this perpetrator did not hate his captives. He listened to a captive servant girl talk about God's healing power through Elisha. 2624 Missing child with no say had quite some eloquence in another tongue! She was trusted and blessed the household of her owners. Remember Joseph who was bought! May God bless you and those that repent today. Truly abundantly today and always. ![]()
