On Fire For Christ

“But if I say, “I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name, then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot endure it.” Jeremiah 20:9 (NAS)

The prophet Jeremiah had endured much persecution and humiliation for speaking of God. Nothing seemed to turn out good for him when he prophesied what the Lord wanted him to. In his humanness, Jeremiah could have a given up and quit all together. All he had to do was never mention God’s name again and he would never suffer again. But, he said that if he did that then he wouldn’t be able to hold it all in. It would be like a fire burning in his heart. He was called to preach and prophesy about God.

I am reminded of a song that I sang in high school called “Then Will the Very Rocks Cry Out”. The song comes from the Psalms and says that if we as the human race fail to speak of God and praise His name then the rocks and trees and all of creation will cry out to Him. Psalms 150:6 says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”

The Spirit within us longs to speak of and praise the Lord. He wants to hear it as well. He deserves all praise and admiration. Don’t keep silent!!
