Let Healing Flow!
Saboba Update
Northern Village
We will try to post updates on this page. Any questions? E-mail us at servantgh@yahoo.com. **Please remember two things: we are working in a remote location and at times we may not have internet access for several weeks. For additional information about Saboba Medical Centre and its needs, see http://www.sabobamedicalcentre.org.
Leaving Ghana Again
We are in Accra, where on Thursday June 25th we will fly to London and on to Chicago. Sunday June 28th we travel to St. Louis for Bob to have preoperative testing. July 21st Bob will undergo left hip reconstruction.
It has been an eventful year. After returning in late August we succeeded in purchasing a new white Nissan 4 wheel drive pickup truck. Our old pickup now lives with Big Man, who is using it while attending Bible School at the Northern Ghana Bible College in Kumbungu, just outside Tamale. In October Jean helped host the national Medical Superintendents Group meeting in Tamale.
In late March 2009 after months of preparation the Men's and Children's Ward was successfully renovated. Shortly after the completion of the renovations, the Saboba District Assembly announced that it was building us a new 40-bed children's ward! Construction has already started.
In April we hosted the MOCA Medical team from Buffalo, NY, headed by Dr. Emme Nylander. The team did numerous gynecological operations and helped out in several other parts of the hospital. They are hoping to come back in 2009. At the same time we also hosted a number of other visitors.
May 30th Jean received a national award as the Outstanding Female Doctor of the year. We can only praise God because there are many other equally deserving doctors who could have been so recognized.
As we leave Saboba, we grieve because there is still no full-time doctor to substitute for Jean. Pray that God will raise up someone, not only to take Jean's place now but also to work in Saboba permanently. |

Rainy Season Brings Us Back To Saboba
After months of anticipation we returned to Ghana August 26, 2008, and to Saboba September 2, 2008. As we settle back in, we also are preparing for a visit from a team from Getwell Road United Methodist Church, Southaven, MS. The team is coming to help dedicate a new pastoral center they have been helping to build in Saboba. This center will serve all the pastors in the area. Soon we can sent the books we have been keeping for the library to the center.
Bob is thrilled to be able to walk and ride his bike without pain. Jean is readjusting to being the only doctor in the area. Pray for us and for the team that is coming! Although we have had lots of rain this year, the flooding is not as bad as it was last year. |

August 1, 2008 Bob is driving and we are leaving soon.
Bob has been released by his orthopedic surgeon! He can drive and do all sorts of things he hasn't been able to do for some time. We celebrated by visiting supporters and our home church, Getwell Road UMC, in Southaven, MS. A team from Getwell Road is coming to Saboba in early September. WE ARE PREPARING TO LEAVE AUGUST 25TH. If you want us to speak for your group, call us at 309-351-0915 or at 309-484-2029. |

Bob's Rehab going well.
April 16, 2008-Bob is now more than half way through cardiac rehab and looking forward to hip replacement surgery on the 3rd of June. Assuming all goes well, we plan to leave for Ghana August 25th, arriving August 26th. Meanwhile we are trying to tell as many people as possible about the needs of Northern Ghana and Saboba in particular. There is still no doctor in Saboba. We plan to order our new lorry as soon as we return to Ghana. For other needs, check the rest of this web site. |
