Evangelist Colette Townsend-Chambers
In her early years she began teaching Sunday School at Emanuel H. Temple and was mentored by Mother Iona Kirkwood, Sis. Dorothy Sanders, and her daughter, Sis.Chico Kirkwood. It was here she learned how to play the drums in church without ever having to take a drum lesson!
One day Bishop Kirkwood purchased a drum set; and brought it to church. No one knew how to play so her sister Katrina sat down and began to play. This inspired Colette and she followed suit. She has been playing drums ever since. Colette also eventually learned to play the keyboard and organ in various local churches.
One day while living in Natchez, Mississippi in the late 1980's, while a member of the Bibleway Apostolic Church ( the late Elder Alfred Kirkwood, Pastor), she felt a calling to preach the gospel. She went to bed one night praying and seeking God for an answer. While sleeping, she saw in her subconcious mind, someone preaching the word of God. She could see people standing crowded around her as if at the altar, but behind them was a huge black pit. She could hear this person preaching so hard, but did not know who it was. To her suprise as she became fully awakened, she realized it was she who was preaching the gospel, while yet in her bed!
As a member of Living Witnesses of the Apostolic Faith, Inc; she has evangelized throughout Chicago and the United States preaching the word of God. In 1997 the late Bishop Arcenia C. Richards, ordained Colette as an evangelist in LWAF, Inc. She was a member of the internationally known Dan Willis and the Pentecostals of Chicago choir, traveling to Jamaica and various cities, including Hollywood, CA; the Olympics in Atlanta, and the Chicago Gospel Fest.
Since that time, Evangelist Chambers has obtained a Bachelors of Science in Nursing, and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Nursing. She is married to Elder Roosevelt Chambers, Jr. and they have three beautiful children, who are also accomplished drummers.
Evangelist Chambers is a Clinical Nurse Manager for a local university, however she makes time to preach the word! When she is not playing music or preaching she is studying nursing and volunteering in the community. Her main focus is to assist her mother in establishing Camp Judah in Natchez,Mississippi.
