Legal Wordings - Pondering Bible Words
Trial Wait + Verdict
Waiting for a trial? If you agree to take the judge who sits at that time, then no one in particular can be accused of rigging the nomination of the judge, since he or she was picked beforehand.
Go to the judge who is in office at that time. Deut 17:(9)
- German
Wait with God in a holy place and also involve holy people such as priests. These people will tell you what will happen next.

There is a need for legal people to ask questions.
But there are limits relating to basic needs.
Don't we have the right for food and drink?
1 Cor 9:(4)
- Danish
The answer gives a clue as to the motivation and the possible conditions to receive basic needs.(It may require having to work, for example.)

While waiting for trial, the courts want to make sure someone will not run away. Money may have to be paid.
bail = the required amount of money to be released until trial
Acts 17:(9)
una fianza - Spanish
una cauzione - Italian
Bürgschaft/eine Kaution - German
(payer) une caution - French
het stadsbestuur - Dutch
Anyone accused takes stock of who can help and be a witness. First the witnesses have to be identified.
He knew that I was innocent. Daniel 6:(22) or (23)
variation: I was found innocent in his eyes.
Agli occhi de ___________sono innocente. - Italian
Je n'étais pas coupable envers ___________. - French
(Er)/_________ hat keine Schuld an mir gefunden. - German

Pretexts
While waiting for any trial, some people may scheme to influence it their way. Paul had the extreme of people scheming to kill him. They "pretended", "used a pretext" and set up things "as though" something was true that was not. A witness who can quote what was schemed verbatim may be able to help deflect the bad consequences. Rumours may be difficult to prove, but precautions can be taken.

Acts 23:20 states:
He said, "The Jewish authorities have agreed to ask you tomorrow to take Paul down to the Council, pretending that the Council wants to get more accurate information about him. Acts 23:15 states why.

The generic sentence becomes:
_____(the witness) said, "The ______(Conspirators) have agreed to ask _____(guard or decision maker) at______time/date to take _____(the accused) to ______(place), pretending that _____(the information seeker at the place) wants to get more accurate information about _____(the accused).

This begs a question...Is it always wrong to lure someone somewhere to get more accurate information under pretext?
Discernment is needed. Wisdom is needed by judges! Do pray and put any pretext situation in God's hands.

Re: Verdicts

There are people authorized to pronounce a verdict.
They will give you the verdict. Deut 17:(9)
Il vous indiqueront comment juger l'affaire. - French
Laßt sie die Entscheidung treffen. - German
- Spanish

The decision may be to set the accused free, because innocence has been proven.

The decision may be to set "the accused" free, because the evidence is inconclusive, strongly suggests innocence, or strongly suggests guilt with no proof.
The court may want to comment:
I find no basis for a charge against him.
I don't find this man guilty of anything.
Luke 23:4; John 18:38; John 19:4;6
Kahore tetahi he o tenei tangata i mau i ahau. - Maori
Wala akong makitang kasalanan niya. - Tagalog
Wala akong makitang kasalanan sa taong ito. - Tagalog
- Dutch
Volgens mij is hij onschuldig. - Dutch
Ich finde keinen Grund ihn zu verurteilen. - German
The decision may be that the accused is guilty.
This is the (condemning) verdict. John 3:(19)
So wird das Urteil vollstreckt. - German
Voici d'où vient la condamnation. - French
- Italian
(Y) esta es la condenación. - Spanish

Some wordings can be changed to more neutral wordings.
ex.: Since Verdict=Urteil, the sentence changes to:
So wird das Urteil. or So ist das Urteil. - German
Most translations use some negative wordings.
So use these particular wordings with wisdom and extra caution.
"vollstrecken (verb)" implies completing the punishment.
condamnation=condanna=condenación (negative nouns)
(The use of these words may require giving explanations first to explain the verdict.)
Then, the guilty person is paired with some punishment.
There are many smart decisions that "fit the crime".
It may be one or some combination of:
- a limited or life prison sentence
- "only" a fine
- community "forced" volunteer work
- restitution or helping with rehabilitation of the victim
- an apology suggested or required
- public humiliation like publication in a newspaper
- serving jail time on weekends only
- house arrest
- release with probation
- release in the custody of a responsible person
- release to a group or half-way home
- banishment out of the jurisdiction
- having a criminal record
- wearing something to prevent further crimial activity (tracker, pager,...)
- cleaning or repairing vandalized property
- learning life skills (reading, writing, cooking,....)
- assigning an apprenticeship with a work-mentor
and/or many other individualized limits and actions.

In places of torture, the punishment may not fit the crime at all.
The punishment is often arbitrary.
It can be swift or very slow.
Human rights...what are they in situations like that?
The "guilty" may be forced to wear identifying marks
- some kind of "scarlett letter"...
May God help people everywhere to know in their innermost being that they have built-in dignity since we are created in God's likeness. May God help us to pray for those that persecute others.

If someone is condemned to jail, there is generally a time limit.
When the _____(#) years are over, _______(Name) will be released from his prison. Revelations 20:7
Quand les ______(#) ans seront passé, __________(nom) sera relâché de sa prison. - French
The death penalty may be the verdict in some places and at various times. Jesus was condemned this way. The question was asked, " What do you think? What is YOUR verdict." Still today this drastic verdict is a matter of hot debate. Is this ultimate verdict still necessary for community self-defense today?
He/_____ deserves the death penalty. Matthew 26:66
Er/______ hat den Tod verdient. - German
- French
Merece la muerte. - Spanish
