GEORGIA SOCIETY (S.A.R.) CHAPLAINCY CORPS
We Salute You!
Chaplain Roscoe D. McMillan (Continental Uniform)
Chaplain Roscoe D. McMillan (Continental Uniform)
A great part of what we do, as members of the Sons of the American Revolution, has to do with remembering the tremendous heritage left us by those patriots of old. As Chaplains, it is good to recall the names of those who served the American Revolution as Chaplains.
And to honor those who serve that position today in the SAR.
Herein, let's take a moment to hallow the names of
two great Patriots - one past; one present:

Chaplain Joel Barlow. Although the date of his birth is unknown, the life of Chaplain Barlow impacted many areas of our nation's early years. A lawyer and Editor, living in Hartford, Connecticut, Chaplain Barlow was one of America's first poets. His epic, "The Columbiad" attracted much interest. He was also known to have edited and revised Watt's Hymns and Psalms. Chaplain Barlow served as Chaplain in Poore's 4th Massachusetts from June 20, 1780 to June 3, 1783. A Congregationalist, he was also a "Member Of The Cincinnati." A Minister To France in later life, Chaplain Barlow made several diplomatic missions to England and died in Poland while trying to establish diplomatic contact with Napoleon. Chaplain Barlow died on December 22, 1812.

And great men still serve ..........

Chaplain Roscoe Drake McMillan, III; Lyman Hall Chapter, Georgia Society SAR. Chaplain McMillan has assumed the position of Chaplain, having served in many other areas of both the state and his local chapter. Married to the former Melissa Duckwall for the past 43 years, the Chaplain and his Lady are the parents of two children and three grandchildren. Active in their church and community, these two are member of the Presbyterian faith. Chaplain McMillan works faithfully helping to make the Georgia Society richer. He wears proudly a Continental Officer's Uniform and has joined the Award Winning Georgia Color Guard in various activities And when not involved with wife, grandbabies and the SAR, Chaplain McMillan enjoys model training as a hobby.

When asked his reason for joining the SAR, Chaplain McMillan replied, "my Mother was DAR and always wanted me to join the SAR. Then, my friend, Hall Martin, asked me to get involved and I did so because I believe fervently in what we do in keeping the memory of our history and the core principles of our founders alive."

Like his ancestor, Lt.Thomas Powe, Commissary to Colonel Hicks' Regiment, Cheraw, South Carolina, he loves his country and serves her well.

We give thanks to God for both these men and honor them as great Americans!

Your fellow Chaplains salute you, Chaplain McMillan ... !!
We're proud to stand alongside you in the work of the SAR
