Legal Wordings - Pondering Bible Words
Authorized?
Who is authorized? Generally someone who has sworn to testify or act on the truth.

If a person is not sure, whether a judge is duly authorized, the following can be asked of the judge directly:
Who made you (ruler and) judge over us? Exodus 2:14
- German
The answer can give vital knowledge.

Who will judge? is not directly in the English bible....but...sometimes the words are translated using that question.
______(Group or Name(s)), who will judge... - Leviticus 27:12; 2 Timothy 4:1
Qui jugera? - French
¿Que juzgará? - Spanish
______ schätzt das _____. - German
Any witness at a court swears to tell the truth and is thereby authorized to have a voice at the trial.
I swear it. Genesis 21:(24)
Je le jure. - French
Lo giuro. - Italian
Yo juraré. Spanish
Ich will schwören. (future tense)- German

Anyone you judges clandestinely is NOT really authorized, but relies on bully power. The judge should act according to:
I will hear your case when your accusers get here. Acts 23:35
Not only that, but when the court recorders (at least 2 witnesses of the court besides the judge) and any witnesses get there.

Sometimes a person is authorized because they write a document in their own hand in front of an authorized person(called an affidavit), confirmed by as many proofs as possible. Comparing other documents, statement of other known witnesses...etc.

Sometimes someone is authorized with a document with the "right" recognized signature.

I, ______, write this in my own hand.
1 Co 16:21; Col 4:18; 2 Thess 3:17 and Philemon 1:19
Ich,________, scheibe mit eigener Hand. - German
Es de mi propia mano, __________. - Spanish
Io, ______, scritto propio di mia mano. - Italian
©

For judges and lawyers....
Make a right judgement! John 7:(24)
Juzgad con justo juicio. - Spanish
Urteilt nach gerechten Maßstäben. - German
Soyez justes dans votre façon de juger! - French
Giudicate con giustizia, invece. - Italian
Give correct and fair verdicts for peace in your courts. Zechariah 8:16
- Spanish
A particular judge may not know how to make a right judgement. Then the judge may refer the case to another.

It would be nice, if a judge could always say,
"I don’t condemn you either." (John 8:11)
but that happens only always with Jesus after repentance.
In the world, there are consequences to crime and sin. With Jesus' assurance, those become better than bearable especially when others follow Jesus' example and forgive us.

When you become judge there are rule books to follow.
You judge the way humans do. John 8:15

A judge can transcend the letter of the law with love! It starts with not being grumpy all the time. (S)he can always encourage good behaviour...especially after a guilty person is punished (fined, released from prison, community service, etc.) if only by saying something like:
"From now on don’t_________(sin/Name of crime)." (John 8:11)

If cases come before your courts, that are too difficult for you to judge, take them to ___________.
Deut. 17:(8)
- French
You can seek advice and can state:
Even if I do judge, my judgment is valid because I don’t make it on my own. I make my judgment with_______(Name of expert equal or higher judge). John 8:16

Do not accept a bribe! - Exodus 23:(8); Deuteronomy 16:19
- German

[ A)Each language uses the negative in its own way.
Bribe, corrompre, Prozessierenden are negative words.
The thing given is a positive word when using: cadeaux and Geschenke.
B) English doesn't say whether "you" refers to one person or more. The translations mostly use the "all of you" sense.
Do not accept a bribe, all of you (judges and friends)!]
Do what is just and right. Jeremiah 22:(3)
Sorgt für Gerechtigkeit. - German
Rendez une vrai justice. - French
Before being appointed, people in authority, judges and character witnesses have to be asked pertinent questions, such as:
Do you (pl.)...humiliate those who have nothing? 1 Co 11:(22)
Envergonhais os que nada têm? - Portuguese
Wollt ihr die beschämen, die nichts haben? - German
- French
or
Do you (pl.) despise the church of God? 1 Co 11:(22)
Desprezais a igreja de Deus? - Portuguese
Verachtet ihr die Gemeinde Gottes? - German
Méprisez-vous l'Église de Dieu? - French
People have reputations! People talk. What should a would-be judge want to hear before being appointed?
Is ________(name) unjust? - Not at all! Romans 9:(14)
________(nom) serait-il injuste? - Certainement pas! - French
Ist _________(Name) ungerecht? - Keineswegs! - German
What do you have to do to be just?
Rescue from the hand of his oppressor the one who has been robbed. Jeremiah 22:(3)
- German
Do no wrong or violence to the stranger. Jeremiah 22:(3)
- German
Do no wrong to the fatherless or the widow. Jermiah 22:(3)
- French
Of course, there is more advice in God's Book of Books. Keep looking. Wisdom is there.

Re: Authorizing Security Forces

Policing and a legal system go hand in hand.

J__________(authorized security person)led the men to arrest J_______(the accused).
Acts 1:16
J________ foi o guia daquesles que prenderam J_________. - Portugese/Português

This verse is VERY interesting.
Is J________ a good guy or bad?

Don't assume even today!
You would assume the first person J______ is authorized to keep the peace and therefore is a good guy.
If the second J_________ is arrested, then it's likely that he is a bad guy.

Well,...the verse already shows a pernicious problem of security forces.

The "authorized leader" J_____ was Judas.
The "accused" J_____ was Jesus.

Police forces need to dismiss the corrupt.
Security forces need to watch out for the insider plotting for some private advantage.
Armies need to scrutinize propaganda people who twist the truth aimed at them by testing for truth.
Courts need to disbar bribable court officials to administer justice fairly.

God's people must keep praying for those in authority.

Let someone else take his position. Acts 1:20
Laat een ander zijn taak overnemen. - Dutch
Qu'un autre prenne sa fonction. - French
The other security force members have a big stake in who is chosen as replacement. There must be a logical selection to say:
Therefore, someone must be added to our number to serve with us.
Acts 1:20
- French/H5>

Qualifications must be determined.
He must be one of __________. Acts 1:21
This person must have been____________. Acts 1:22

________,_______,...and ________(higher or equal authority people) determined that ______, ______,... and _______(the candidates) were qualified. Acts 1:23

These men were J_______ (who was called B_______ and was also known as J_______) and M_______. Acts 1:23

Seems J________ and M________were good guys.
Wouldn't you choose someone with a name like Joseph, the Just Man?

Then the decision makers in Acts prayed, didn't fight about their favorite son, and found a way to let God choose.

God's people still need to keep praying for those in authority, especially security forces, so that we may lead peacable lives.
