Matthew - Acts ![]() Chapter 2: Verses 3-6-when the king heard about the Magi coming to the area asking, “where is the one who has been born,” when King Herod heard this he was disturbed. Herod called the people and the priests and teachers and asked where the Christ was to be born. They said, “in Bethlehem!” They said, “the prophet wrote of this (Isaiah 7:14).” Micah 5:2. Chapter 3: Verses 1-3-when Jesus was 30 years old, John the Baptist came. He was preaching in the desert of Judea saying to all that came to him, “repent, for the kingdom (who is Jesus) of heaven is near.” This is He who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah (Isaiah 40:3). Verse 11-John said, “I baptize you with water to repentance, after me Jesus will come and baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:1-4) Verse 17-and a voice from heaven said, “this is My Son, whom I love, with Him I am well pleased.” (God said this) Chapter 4: Verses 15-16-in the land of Naphtali, along the Jordan, Galilee of the gentiles, the people living in darkness have seen a great light on those living in the land of the shadow of death. A light has dawned on them (Isaiah 9:1-2; Acts 9:15). Verse 17-from that time Jesus began to preach, “repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:1-2-the kingdom is Jesus) Verses 18-22-Jesus called Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, and then He called James and John, immediately they all followed Him. Chapter 5: Verses 1-12-now when Jesus saw the crowds He went up on a mountainside and sat down, and His disciples came to Him, and He (Jesus) began to teach. He said, “Blessed are those who mourn, Blessed are the meek, Blessed are those who hunger for righteousness, Blessed are the merciful, Blessed are the pure in heart, Blessed are the peacemakers, Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness, Blessed are you when people insult you,” What to do, rejoice! Verse 16-”let your light shine before men that all may see your good deeds and praise God.” Verse 37-”let your yes be yes and your no be no, anything beyond this is evil.” Chapter 6: Verse 4-”all that you do, do in secret, then your Father in heaven who sees in secret will reward you.” Verse 6-”when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray, your Father sees you in secret and He will reward you.” Verse 33-”seek first God’s kingdom (Jesus) and His righteousness, and all things will be given you.” (John 3:3) Chapter 7: Verse 12-”in everything, you must do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the law and the prophets.” (Hebrews 1:1-3) Verse 15-”watch out for false prophets, they will come in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” Verse 24-”therefore, everyone who hears My words and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house (life) on the rock (the rock in Jesus).” Chapter 8: Verse 14-Jesus came into Peter’s house and healed his mother-in-law. Verse 17-a work of healing to fulfill what was said in Isaiah (Isaiah 54:4). Verse 29-2 demons said to Jesus, “What do you want with us Son of God?” And they shouted, “Have You come here to torture us before the appointed time?” (Revelation 20:10) Verse 34-then the whole town went out to meet Jesus, and when they saw Him they pleaded with Him to leave their region. Chapter 9: Verse 6-”so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sin,” Jesus said to the paralytic, “get up and walk and take your mat and go home.” Verse 9-Jesus calls Matthew, “Come follow Me,” and Matthew got up and followed Jesus. Verse 12-Jesus said to all at Matthew’s house, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice, for I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Romans 3:22-23) Chapter 10: Verses 2-4-these are the Names of Jesus’ apostles: Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Judas and Simon. Verse 7-Jesus said, “preach this message, the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:2; 4:17) Verse 16-”I am sending you out like sheep among wolves, so be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” (John 13:34-35) Verse 22-”all men will hate you because of Me, but if you stand firm in Jesus and do it to the end you will be saved.” Verse 28-”do not be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul, rather be afraid (the fear of the Lord brings wisdom-Job 28:28) of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” Verse 31-”don’t be afraid, you are worth much to God!” Chapter 11: Verse 4-Jesus replies to John the Baptist, “what you hear and see is the blind see, the lame walk, the leprous are cured, the deaf hear, and the dead are raised, and the good news is preached.” Verses 14-15-then Jesus said about John, “if you are willing to accept this, he is the Elijah who was to come. He who has ears, let him hear.” (Malachi 3:1) Verse 19-”wisdom is proved right by her actions.” Verse 20-Jesus denounce the cities in which most of His miracles had been performed because they did not repent. Verses 27-28-Jesus said, “all things have been committed to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father and no one knows the Father except the Son, but those Jesus chooses to reveal Him he does. Come to Me all you who are weary and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 28:16-18) Chapter 12: Verse 12-”a man is much more valuable than a sheep, therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Verse 16-Jesus said not to tell who He was. This was to fulfill what was in Isaiah’s prophecy. “Here is My servant (Jesus) whom I have chosen, He is the one I love and in whom I delight.” (Isaiah 42:1-6; John 1:1-14) Verse 31-Jesus said, “every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven man, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.” (it is the Spirit that leads us to Jesus) Chapter 13: Verses 1-58-the parables of Jesus-the sower, the weeds, the mustard seed, the fishing net, and the prophet without honor. Verses 34-35-Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables. He did not say anything without using a parable. This was spoken of in prophecy (Psalms 78:2). Chapter 14: Verses 6-12-at the time of John the Baptist beheading Jesus was told what had happened and He then withdrew by boat to a solitary place. Verses 16-21-then Jesus said, “Give the people food.” So they took a boys food, 5 loaves and 2 fish. Jesus gave thanks, they all ate and were satisfied. The number of those who ate was about 5,000 besides women and children. Verse 23-after Jesus dismissed the disciples He went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. He was there alone all night. Matt. 6:6. Chapter 15: Verses 7-8-Jesus said to the Pharisees, “you hypocrites, Isaiah was right when he said (Isaiah 29:13), ‘these people honor Me with their lips but their hearts are far from Me.’” Verses 32-37-Jesus feeds the people again with 7 loaves and a few small fish. They all ate and were satisfied. The number of people that ate was 4,000. Chapter 16: Verses 16-18-Peter said to Jesus, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said, “and on this Rock (Psalm 95:1) I will build My church.” Verses 21-24-Jesus said, “I must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things, and that I will be killed but I will be raised to life.” Then He said to all the disciples, “If anyone would come after Me they must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me.” Chapter 17: Verses 2-5-Peter, James and John went up on a high mountain with Jesus and Jesus was transfigured before them. Then there appeared to them Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus. While Peter was speaking a bright cloud came and a voice from that cloud said, “this is My Son, listen to Him!” Verse 9-Jesus said to them, “don’t tell anyone what you have seen until I have been raised from the dead.” Verse 23-they will kill Jesus and on the third day He will be raised to life. Chapter 18: Verse 5-”whoever welcomes a little child in My name welcomes Me.” Verse 18-”I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth, it will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose in earth will be loosed in heaven.” Verse 22-Jesus said, “forgive seventy seven times seven.” Verse 35-”this is how God will treat each of us if you forgive all from your heart.” Chapter 19: Verse 30-”many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first.” (Chapter 20:16-the answer) Chapter 20: Verses 18-19-Jesus said to His disciples, “we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man (Jesus) will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn Him to death and they will take Him over to the gentiles to be mocked and crucified, but on the third day He will be raised to life.” Verses 27-28-”whoever wants to be first must be your slave, just as the Son of Man (Jesus) did not come to be served, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for many.” (Galatians 2:18-20) Chapter 21: Verse 7-2 of Jesus disciples brought a donkey and the colt to Him, and Jesus sat on the donkey and on the colt. Verse 22-Jesus said, “if you believe you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Verse 25-Jesus said to the people, “John’s baptism, where did it come from, heaven or man?” Verse 43-then Jesus said to them all, “the Scriptures say the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit.” (Hosea 2:23; John 15:5) Verse 46-the Pharisees looked for a way to arrest Jesus but they were afraid because the people held that He was a prophet. Chapter 22: Verse 14-God says, “many are invited to the wedding of Jesus and the church but few are chosen.” Verses 15-21-the Pharisees planned to trap Jesus but He said, “Give to Casear (the taxes) what is Caesar’s and give to God what is God’s (your heart).” Verse 23-Sadducees say, “There is no resurrection.” Verse 29-Jesus said to them, “you are in error because you do not know the Scriptures.” (John 20:9; Psalms 16:10-11) Verses 36-37-a Pharisee asked this question, “Which of the 10 commandments is the greatest in the law?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind.” Verses 41-45-the Christ is God, Jesus is the Christ! (Psalm 110:1) Chapter 23: Verses 1-11-”do not do what the Pharisees and teachers do, they tie up heavy loads for you, but do not lift a finger to help.” Verse 12-”whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” Verse 27-Jesus said, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and you Pharisees, you are hypocrites! You like to look good on the outside, but on the inside you are full of dead men’s bones.” Chapter 24: Verses 4-5-Jesus said, “Watch out that no one deceives you, for many will come in My name saying, “I am Christ,’ and deceive many of you.” Verse 35-”Heaven and earth will pass away but My words will not ever pass away.” Chapter 25: Verses 1-13-”10 virgins who had lamps-5 were foolish and 5 were wise-God said to the foolish, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you (Matthew 7:22-23).’ Therefore, keep watch because you do not know the day or the hour.” Verse 34-”then the king (Jesus) will say to those on His side, ‘come, you who are blessed by My Father (God), take your inheritance, that is the kingdom prepared for all of you that love Me since the beginning of the world.” Verses 35-40-”I was hungry and you gave Me food to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me. I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these of mine, you did for Me.” Verse 41-then He said to all the others, “Depart from Me, go into the eternal fire that is prepared for the devil and his angels.” Verse 46-”then the righteous will go to eternal life.” (Acts 9:42) Chapter 26: Verses 2-7-Jesus said, “the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified!” At that time a woman poured on His head a jar of very expensive perfume. Verse 12-when she did this Jesus said, “She did this to prepare Me for burial.” Verse 19-the disciples prepared the Passover! Verse 26-while they were eating Jesus broke the bread and said, “This is My body.” Verse 27-then He took the cup and said, “This is My blood.” Verse 32-”after I have risen I will go ahead of you to Galilee.” Verses 69-74-Peter denies Jesus 3 times. Verse 75-Peter then wept bitterly! Chapter 27: Verses 4-5-Judas, who betrayed Jesus, threw the money he received for the betrayal into the temple then he went away and hanged himself (Zechariah 11:12-13). Verse 7-the chief priests decided to use the money to buy the field called Potters to bury the foreigners. Verse 19-while Pilate was sitting on the judge’s seat, judging Jesus, Pilate’s wife sent him this message, “Don’t have anything to do with that innocent man,” she said. “I have suffered a great deal today in a dream because of Him.” Verse 22-Pilate said to the priests, “what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” And they all said, “crucify Him!” Verse 25-and all the people answered Pilate and said, “let His (Jesus) blood be on us and on our children.” Verse 45-from the sixth hour on the cross to the ninth hour, darkness came over all the land. Verse 54-a centurion and those with the centurion said, “surely He (Jesus) was the Son of God!” Verse 57-a rich man named Joseph came to Pilate and asked for Jesus body, to put it in his tomb that he cut out of the rock, and he bared Jesus in it. Chapter 28: Verses 1-3-after the Sabbath (which is Saturday), at dawn on the first day of the week (which is Sunday), Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons went to the tomb. And then there was a violent earthquake, and an angel of the Lord came down form heaven and rolled back the stone and sat on it. And this is how he looked-his appearance was like lightning and his clothes were white as snow (Matthew 17:1-3). Verses 5-6-the angel said to the women, “do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, He is not here, He has risen just as He said.” (Matthew 20:18-19) Verses 12-15-then the priests and elders devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money telling them, “you are to say, ‘His disciples came at night and stole His body.’” So they did it for them. Verses 16-20-then the disciples went to Jesus in the mountain at Galilee, and when they saw Jesus some of them doubted, but they worshipped Him. Then Jesus came to them, all 11 of them, and said, “all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.” He said, “go to all nations and tell them I will be with you always.” (Matthew 17:5) Listen to Him-Jesus! Chapter 1: Verses 1-2-(Mark is John Mark who was with Paul and Barnabas-Acts 15:36-41) it is written in Isaiah about John the Baptist, “I will send My messenger ahead of You (Jesus), who will prepare the way.” (Malachi 3:1-2) Verse 8-John said, “I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” (Jesus will do this) Verses 10-11-as Jesus was baptized by John, when He came up out of the water, He saw heaven open and the Spirit of God descend on Him and God’s voice said, “You are My Son whom I love, with You I am well pleased.” (Matthew 1:20-21; 17:5-7) Verses 23-25-a man was possessed by an evil spirit of the devil in the Synagogue, and the spirit cried out to Jesus, “Have You come to destroy us?” And the devil said, “I know who You are, You are the Holy One of God,” and Jesus said to the evil spirit, “come out of him, and he came out.” Verses 29-31-James and John went to Simon’s house, and Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever. They told Jesus and He took her hand and helped her up and the fever left her and she began to wait on them. Verse 34-Jesus healed many there! He also drove out many demons and the demons knew who Jesus was (verse 39-Jesus did this many times). Chapter 2: Verse 2b-Jesus preached the word to the people. Verse 7-the teachers of the law said, “why does this man (Jesus) talk like this, He is blaspheming.” They said, “Who can forgive sins but God alone!” Verses 10-11-but Jesus said, “ That you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth-I can forgive sins,” He said to a paralytic, “get up, take your mat and go home.” Verse 17-Jesus said to the people, “it is not the healthy who need a doctor but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners.” Verse 27-Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath, see the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.” (John 4:19-24-we must worship in Spirit and truth) Chapter 3: Verses 14-19-Jesus appointed 12 men and made them apostles. These are the men: Simon Peter, James, John, his brother Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus and Judas. Verses 29-30-”whoever Blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, he is guilty of an eternal sin.” They said, “He (Jesus) has an evil spirit.” (Blaspheme means to speak of someone or something with irreverence) Verses 31-32-then Jesus’ mother and brothers arrived. They called for Jesus and someone said to Him, “Your mother and brothers are outside looking for You.” Chapter 4: Verses 13-20-Jesus said to the apostles, “don’t you understand My parable?” Then He told the meaning of them to His apostles (verse 9-he who has ears to hear let him hear). Verse 24-”consider carefully what you hear, “ He continued and said, “the measures you use, it will be measured to you and even more.” (Matthew 6:3-4) Verses 26-28-”this is what the kingdom of God is like, a man scatters seed on the ground, he goes to sleep, gets up in the morning and the seed goes on sprouting. He does not know how this works, all by itself the soil produces.” (John 15:1-8) Verses 30-34-”what shall we say the kingdom of God is like, or what parable shall we use to describe it?” When Jesus was alone with His own disciples He explained everything. Verse 41-the disciples asked each other, “Who is this? All things respond to Him!” Chapter 5: Verse 20-after a man was freed from a demon he went and began to tell how much Jesus had done for him and the people were amazed. Verse 34-Jesus said to a woman who was healed, “your faith has healed you.” Verse 42-a girl, Rhoda from Dathe, immediately she stood up and walked. She was 12 years old. At this time all the people were completely astonished. The girl had something to ear. Chapter 6: Verses 1-3-Jesus went to His hometown and His disciples went with Him. On the Sabbath He began to teach in the Synagogue and they were all amazed and said, “where did He get all this wisdom, isn’t His family here, Mary, and His brothers James, Joseph, Judas and Simon, even His sisters are here with us?” Verse 6-and Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith. Verse 20b-Herod liked to listen to John. Chapter 7: Verses 7-8-”These people worship Me in vain! Their teachings are but rules taught by men, they have let go of God’s commands, but are holding onto the traditions of man.” Verses 21-23-”out of men’s hearts come evil thoughts, all evil comes from inside and this makes a man unclean.” (Proverbs 6:18; Hebrews 3:7-8) Verses 26-30-a Greek woman, she was born in Syrian Phoencia, came to Jesus with her possessed daughter, and He healed her from her possession. Chapter 8: Verses 2-3-Jesus said, “the people have nothing to eat. I feel compassion for them. They haven’t eaten for 3 days. If I send them home hungry they will collapse. Some of the people have come a long distance.” Verse 5-He fed the people with 7 loaves of bread and a few small fish. Jesus gave thanks for it and all the people ate. Verse 12-Jesus sighed deeply then said, “Why does this generation ask for a miraculous sign?” (Verses 17-21) He reminded them of 5 loaves and the 7 loaves. Chapter 9: Verse 4-Moses and Elijah talking to Jesus! Verse 7-then a cloud appeared to them and a voice came from the cloud saying, “this is My Son, I love Him, so listen to Him.” (Matthew 17:5) Verses 23-24-Jesus said, “everything is possible for him who believes.” The father of the boy who was possessed said, “I do believe, but help me in my unbelief.” Verses 30-31-Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were because He was teaching His disciples that He is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. “They will kill Me and after 3 days I will rise.” (Mark 8:31-32; 10:32-34) Verse 37-Jesus took a child in His arms and said, “whoever welcomes one of these little children in My name welcomes Me, and whoever welcomes Me welcomes the Father who sent Me.” Verse 50-”have salt in yourselves and be at peace with each other!” Chapter 10: Verses 7-9-”in the beginning of time God made man and woman for each other. A man must be united to his wife and the man is one with his wife for all time on earth. What God has joined together no man or woman is to separate.” Verse 15-”and as for children, I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God (Jesus is the kingdom) like a little child will never enter into it,” and Jesus blessed the children. Verse 27-”with man all things are impossible but not with God, for with Him all things are possible.” Verse 31-”many who are first will be last and the last first.” Chapter 11: Verse 17-and as Jesus taught the people in the temple area he said, “is it not written in Isaiah (Isaiah 6:7), ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations?’ But you people have made it a den of robbers.” Chapter 12: Verses 5-8-”God sent many to tell His truth, some they beat and others they killed. He had one, His Son left, He sent Him last of all saying, ‘they will respect My Son!’ But they said, ‘this is God’s heir, lets kill Him and inherit it all.’” (Psalm 118:22-24) Verses 9-11-”what did God do, He came and gave the vineyard to others, and gentiles.” Verse 14-the Pharisees came to Jesus to catch Him in His words. They said, “You have integrity, You teach the way of God, so is it right to pay taxes or not?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy, He said, “Bring Me a coin! Whose portrait is this?” They said, “Caesar’s!” Jesus responded, “OK, give to Caesar what is his and give to God what is His.” Verse 24-Jesus said, “You are all in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.” Verse 36-”David speaking by the Holy Spirit declared in the Psalms (Psalm 110:1), ‘the Lord God said to the Lord (Jesus) sit at My right hand.’” Verse 37-if David calls Jesus Lord how then can He be his Son (Jesus is God). Chapter 13: Verses 5-6-Jesus said to them (and us), “watch out that no one deceives you, many will come in My Name claiming, ‘I am the Christ, ‘they will deceive many.” Verse 11b-”It is not you speaking, it is the Holy Spirit.” Verse 13-”men will hate you because of Me (Jesus), but if you stand firm in Me to the end you will be saved.” Verse 27-”and God will send His angels and gather His elect people from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.” Verses 31-32-”know this, heaven and earth will pass away, but My Words (the Bible) will never pass away. No one knows about that day, only My Father, God.” Chapter 14: Verse 25-”I tell you the truth, I will not drink the communion supper until that day in the kingdom of God.” Verses 27-28-Jesus said, “you will all fall away, for it is written (Zechariah 13:7), ‘I will strike the Shepherd (Jesus) and the sheep will be scattered.’” Verse 71-Peter began cursing and said to the people about Jesus, “I don’t know this man!” Verse 72-then Peter remembered the Word Jesus had spoken to him and he broke down and he wept (in the Bible-Matthew 26:31-35; Luke 22:31-34; John 13:36-38). Chapter 15: Verses 9-13-Pilate asked the Jews, “Do you want me to release Jesus, the king of the Jews?” He knew it was out of envy the chief priests handed Him over to them. They said, “Release Barabbas,” instead. Pilate said, “What shall I do with Jesus?” They said, “Crucify Him!” Verses 16-20-after the trial the soldiers called together the whole company of soldiers and they struck Him and spit on Him and mocked Him in many ways. Verse 25-on the 3rd hour (3 p.m.) they crucified Him! Verse 39-a centurion who stood there in front of the body of Jesus said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” Verse 47-Mary Magdalene and Mary Jesus’ mother were there where He was laid. Chapter 16: Verse 3-Mary Magdalene asked James mother, “who will roll away the stone from the tomb so that we can anoint Jesus’ body?” But when they looked at the tomb it was rolled away. Verses 6-7-a young man (an angel) said to the women, “don’t be alarmed, Jesus who you are looking for, who was crucified, He is risen! So go, tell His disciples you will see Him in Galilee just as He told you.” Verse 11-when the disciples heard that Jesus was alive they did not believe it. (The book of Luke is the longest of the 4 gospels. He writes this book to show Jesus’ love for all people. Luke wrote the book of Acts also) Chapter 1: Verse 4-Luke said to Theophilus, “I am writing this so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.” (Acts 1:1-2) Verses 14-15-an angel said to Zechariah, “your son John will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, and he will be great in the sight of the Lord. Also, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit right from birth.” Verse 17-”John will be in the spirit of Elijah.” Verse 19-the angel speaking to him is Gabriel. Verse 37-Gabriel, the angel, was visiting Mary and he said to her, “nothing is impossible with God.” Verses 46-56-Mary sings this song! Mary stayed with Elizabeth for three months, and then she returned home. Verses 67-79-Zechariah sings his song. Verse 80-and the child, John, grew and became strong in the Spirit and he lived in the desert until he appeared Chapter 2: Verse 13-the angel was with the shepherds and at that time a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel praising God and saying, “glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men,” (and on Jesus). Verse 32-Simeon said, “Jesus is a light for the revelation to the gentiles and glory to Israel.” (Acts 9:15) Verse 51-Jesus was obedient to His mother and father but His mother treasured all things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and favor with God and man (Proverbs 3:4). Chapter 3: Verses 2-6-John the Baptist went into all the country around the Jordan preaching, “be baptized and repent for the forgiveness of sins.” (This is written in Isaiah 40:3-5) “At this time all will see God’s salvation!” Verses 10-11-the crowd asked, “What should we do?” He answered, “share with the one who has little of all things.” Verses 12-13-to the tax collectors he said, “don’t collect any more than you are required to.” Verse 16-and John said to them, “I baptize with water but one (Jesus) will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Chapter 4: Verse 10-the devil said to Jesus in the desert, “it is written (Psalm 91:11-12), ‘God will command His angels to guard You (Jesus) carefully.’” Verse 12-Jesus said to the devil, “it is also said (Deuteronomy 6:16), ‘do not put the Lord your God to the test.” (Jesus is Lord and God) Chapter 5: Verses 5-8-boats caught no fish all night! Jesus said to them, “go out into deep water,” and Simon did it. Then they caught such a large number that their nets began to break. Simon Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, I am a sinful man.” They were all astonished at what had happened. Jesus said, “Now you will catch men for Me.” Verse 16-Jesus often withdrew to a lonely place to pray. Chapter 6: Verse 5-Jesus said to the Pharisees, “the Son of Man (is Jesus) is Lord of the Sabbath!” Verse 9-He asked the Pharisees, “which is lawful on the Sabbath, to do good or evil, to save life or to destroy it?” Verses 12-13-Jesus went to a mountainside to pray and He did this all night. In the morning He chose 12 disciples and made them apostles. Verses 20-26-Jesus looking at His disciples said, “you are blessed for you are poor in your spirit.” Verses 28-29-He said, “bless those who curse you and pray for those who mistreat you. Turn the other cheek!” Verse 31-”do to others as you would have them do to you.” Verse 36-”you be merciful just as your Father is merciful.” (Your father is God) Verse 37b-”forgive and you will be forgiven.” Verse 38-”give and it will be given to you.” Verse 45b-”out of the heart man speaks good or evil.” Verses 46-49-”why do you call the Lord, your Lord, and do not do what He says? (Matthew 7:21-23) You are like a house built on ground without a foundation, and it will collapse. You and I must build our house of faith on the Rock (that is Jesus).” (Isaiah 29:13-15; Matthew 25:21) Chapter 7: Verses 12-15-Jesus went to a town called Nain and a large crowd went with Him. In the town He saw a widow going to bury her son and He touched the coffin and said, “young man get up,” and he sat up and began to talk. Then Jesus gave him to his mother. Verses 21-23-at that time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses, and evil spirits, and gave sight to the blind. Then Jesus said to all the people, “Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of Me.” Verse 29-all the people said, “God’s way is right!” These people had been baptized by John the Baptist. Verse 47b-Jesus said, “He who has been forgiven little, loves little.” Chapter 8: Verses 1-3-Jesus traveled from one town to another proclaiming the good news, and the 12 apostles were with Him. Some women who had been cured of evil spirits were also with Him with Mary Magdalene also. These women were helping Jesus and His apostles. Verses 5-8-Jesus told this parable of the farmer who went out to sow seed, and Jesus said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Verses 9-15-then Jesus told them what the parable meant. Verses 40-56-a man fell at Jesus feet and said, “my daughter who is 12 is dying, come and help her,” and on the way he healed a woman who just touched Him. Chapter 9: Verses 12-17-the 12 came to Jesus and said, “Send the crowd away so they can find food and lodging for we are in a remote place.” So Jesus said, “you give them something to eat,” and they did, with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. After they ate they had 12 baskets full left over. Verses 22-23-Jesus said, “the Son of Man (Jesus) must suffer many things by the elders and chief priests and teachers of the law. And He will be killed and on the third day He will be raised to life.” So we are to take the cross we have and follow Jesus. Verse 35-a voice came from the cloud saying, “This is My Son whom I have chosen, listen to Him.” Verse 44-Jesus said to His disciples again, “Listen carefully to what I say, the Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men,” but they did not understand. Chapter 10: Verses 16-17-Jesus said, “He who listens to you listens to Me, but he who rejects you, rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me (God).” Then the 72 returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in Your Name.” Verse 22-”No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one know the Father but the Son. Chapter 11: Verses 2-4-”Jesus, teach us to pray,” they asked. He said, “Say this, Father hallowed be Your Name. When Your kingdom comes Your will is done. Give us this day our daily food and forgive us our sins and we will forgive everyone who sins against us. Keep us from temptation.” Verse 28-Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hear the Word (Bible) of God and obey it.” Verse 46-Jesus said, “you experts in the law, woe to you because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry and you will not lift one finger to help them.” Chapter 12: Verse 1-a crowd of many 1000’s had gathered and Jesus said to His disciples, “be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy.” (Matthew 23:1-7) Verse 5-”I show you whom you should fear, fear Him (Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit) who after death of the body has power to throw us into hell, yes fear Him.” Verses 8-9-”I tell you this, whoever acknowledges Me before men, I (Jesus) will acknowledge him to God. Don’t disown Me and I will not disown you.” Verse 10-”you cannot speak words against the Holy Spirit and be forgiven because disowning the Holy Spirit is denying Him.” (Hebrews 11:6-Faith is believing the Holy Spirit who guides us to Jesus) Verses 11-12-”when you are before rulers do not worry about how you defend yourselves or what you will say for the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say.” Chapter 13: Verses 1-3-there were some present who told Jesus about the Galileans. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than others? I tell you no! But unless you repent, you too will perish.” (Galatians 5:14-15) Verses 6-9-the fig tree that had no fruit but someone prayed for it one more year. Verses 23-24-someone asked Jesus, “are only a few people going to be saved?” He said, “Make every effort to enter the narrow door because many, I say, will try and will not be able.” (Matthew 7:13-14) Verses 25-27-Jesus will say, “I don’t know you or where you come from.” (Matthew 7:21-23) Chapter 14: Verses 1-4-Jesus went to a house of a prominent Pharisee to eat. At this time He was carefully watched. The day He went was on the Sabbath, and on this day He healed a man of dropsy. Verses 25-27-”to hate father and mother, wife and children, or brother and sisters, even your own life is the way to love God with all your heart, so that you can love all of these better, then you will be a good disciple.” Verses 28-34-”if you want to build a tower you must know how to do it or they will say, ‘this fellow began to build and was not able to finish.’ He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” (Hebrews 1:1-2-Jesus made the universe) Chapter 15: Verses 1-2-at one time tax collectors and sinful men gathered around Jesus to hear Him and the Pharisees and teachers of the law said, “this man welcomes sinners and even eats with them.” Verses 3-7-then Jesus told the parable of the lose sheep and He said, “there will be rejoicing in heaven over one lost sheep.” (We need to repent) Verses 13-21-”a son said to his father, ‘give me my share of your estate,” and his father did so. Then the son squandered all of it and he got a job feeding pigs. He went back home to his father and said, ‘father, I have sinned.’” Chapter 16: Verses 8-9-Jesus said, “the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of light (born again people).” Verses 14-15-the Pharisees loved money! He said to them, “you are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of man but God knows your hearts.” Verses 27-30-Lazarus, who was in hell, said to Abraham, “I have 5 brothers, warn them so that they will not come to this place of torment.” Abraham replied, “They have Moses and the prophets.” Then the man said, “but if someone from the dead goes to them they will repent.” Verse 31-Abraham said, “If they do not listen to Moses or the prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead (Jesus did-believe Him).” Chapter 17: Verses 3-4-”we should watch ourselves, not to cause people to sin, if they sin forgive them even 7 times in a day, forgive 7 times.” Verses 15-17-one of 10 lepers came back to Jesus to say thanks. Jesus said, “Where are the other nine?” The one was a Samaritan. Verse 21-Jesus said to the Pharisee, “the kingdom of God is within you.” Chapter 18: Verses 15-17-people were bringing babies to Jesus to have Him touch them but the disciples rebuked the children. Jesus said to them, “let the little children come to Me, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Then Jesus said, “I tell you the truth (John 14:6), anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Verse 19b-”no one is good except God and Him alone!” Verses 31-34-Jesus took His 12 disciples aside and said, “we are going to Jerusalem and what the prophets said about the Son of Man (Jesus) will be fulfilled. They will mock Him, spit on Him, flog Him, and kill Him, but on the third day He will rise again.” But the disciples did not understand any of this (John 12:34-38). Chapter 19: Verses 1-6-Zacchaeus was a wealthy tax collector, but he wanted to see Jesus. Being a short man he could not see him so he climbed a tree to see Jesus. Jesus looked up and said, “come down, I must stay at your house today.” Verse 8-Zacchaeus said to Jesus, “if I have cheated anyone I will pay back four times the amount I have taken.” Verse 10-Jesus came to seek and to save. Verse 40-Jesus said to the Pharisees, “if men keep quiet about Him (Jesus) the stones will cry out His Name.” Chapter 20: Verses 1-7-the chief priests, teachers of the law and elders came to Jesus and said, “Tell us by what authority are You doing these things, who gave You this authority?” Jesus replied, “tell Me, John’s baptism, was it from heaven or from man? They answered, “we don’t know!” Verses 20-25-then they sent spies who pretended to be followers of Jesus. They hoped to catch Him in something He said so that they might hand Him over to the authority of the governor. So the spies said, “Teacher, we know You speak what is right, is it right to pay taxes or not?” Verses 26-27-they were unable to trap Him in what He said and astonished by His answer so they became silent. The Sadducees say, “There is no resurrection.” Chapter 21: Verses 1-3-as Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury He saw a poor widow put a small copper coin, and He said, “this widow has put in more than all of you.” Verse 13-”in the results of all things you do it will make you witnesses of Jesus to them.” Verses 20-22-”when you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies you will know that its desolation is near. This is the fulfilling of all that is written.” Verse 33-”this is the truth, heaven and earth will pass away but My words will never pass away!” Verse 37-each day Jesus was teaching at the temple and each evening He went to the Mount of Olives to pray. Chapter 22: Verses 12-18-Jesus and His disciples went to a large upper room, which was furnished. There they prepared the Passover. Jesus said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. I will not eat it again until it comes in the kingdom of God.” Verse 27-Jesus said, “I am one who serves you!” Verses 31-32-Jesus said to Simon Peter, “I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail, but when you turn back, God will strengthen you.” Verses 37-44-”it is written and it is being fulfilled (Isaiah 53)!” Then Jesus went up to the Mount of Olives to pray. Jesus sweat drops of blood! Verse 62-Peter wept bitterly! Chapter 23: Verse 3-Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?” Jesus said, “yes!” Verse 34-Jesus said, “Father, forgive all these, for they do not know what they are doing.” Verse 47-a centurion seeing all this happening said, “Praise God,” and also said, “surely this was a righteous man.” Verses 53-56-a man named Joseph asked Pilate for Jesus’ body to put it in his tomb. Some of the women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and saw how Jesus body was laid in it. Then they went home for the Sabbath to rest. Chapter 24: Verses 5-7-the women, early on the first day after the Sabbath, took the spices and went to the tomb. They found the tomb open but no body was there. In their fright the women bowed down but the angels said, “why do you look for the living among the dead?” The men said, “remember, He told you in Galilee, the Son of Man must be delivered.” Verses 13-29-Jesus was about 7 miles from Jerusalem and he met 2 men going to Emmaus, and Jesus told them all about what had happen. Verses 50-53-Jesus is taken up to Heaven! Chapter 1: Verses 1-5-(Genesis 1:1) John writes, “In the beginning was the Word (Jesus) and the Word was God. He is the light, but the darkness of the world has not understood Him.” Verse 11-He came to His own people (Jews) and they did not receive Him. Verse 14-the Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us, He is full of grace and truth (John 4:23-24). Verses 20-23-John the Baptist said, “I am not the Christ, I am the voice of one calling in the desert saying, “Make straight the way for the Lord (Jesus).” (Isaiah 40:3-in this verse Jesus is called God) Chapter 2: Verses 1-11-at a wedding in Cana, Jesus and His mother had been invited, Jesus mother said to the servants, “do whatever my son says.” So Jesus turned the water into wine. Verse 19-Jesus said to the Jews, “destroy this temple (verse 21-His body) and I will raise it again in 3 days.” Verse 22-after Jesus was raised from the dead His disciples recalled this and then they believed the Scripture (Bible). Verse 25-Jesus did not need mans testimony about man for He knew what was in a man (Psalm 94:10-11; Mark 7:20-23; Romans 2:5-13; 3:3; 3:23). Chapter 3: Verses 1-2-Nicodemus was a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night and he said to Jesus, “no one could perform the miraculous signs you have if God were not with him.” Verse 3-Jesus said, “no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (I John 3:2-3) Verse 8-”you must be born of God’s Spirit!” Verse 15-”everyone who believes in Jesus will have eternal life.” Verse 37-”the one whom God has sent (Jesus), speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.” Chapter 4: Verses 1-3-the Pharisees heard that Jesus was baptizing, but it was His disciples, not Jesus. Verses 4-8-Jesus came to Samaria and He was tired from His journey, so He sat down by a well. There He met a woman of Samaria, and His disciples went into the town to buy food. Verses 22-23-Jesus said to the woman, “salvation is from the Jews, but a time has now come that the true worshippers will worship in Spirit and truth.” Verse 24-”God is Spirit, worship Him in Spirit and truth!” Verse 26-Jesus said, “I am the Christ!” Verse 29-the woman said, “Could this be the Christ?” Verse 39-many of the Samaritans believed in Him because of the woman’s testimony. Chapter 5: Verses 1-18-Jesus, on the Sabbath, healed a man who had been sick for 38 years, and Jesus said to him, “Get up and walk.” He did so! The Jews wanted to kill Him for it. Verse 19-Jesus answered the Jews, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself, He can only do what He sees His Father (God) doing, and whatever God does I do.” Verse 24-Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My Word and believes Him (God) who sent Me has eternal life (John 3:16) and will not be condemned (Romans 8:1-4).” Verses 39-40-Jesus said, “You study the Old Testament Scriptures because you think by them you possess eternal life; it testifies about Me, yet you refuse to come to Me to have life.” (II Timothy 2:15) Chapter 6: Verses 5-7-Jesus said to Philip in testing him, “where shall we buy bread for these people?” Philip answered Jesus saying, “it will take 8 months wages and that wouldn’t do it.” Verses 9-11-”but here is a boy with 5 loaves and two fishes!” Jesus did with that so that they were all fed, 5,000 of them. Verses 25-59-”Jesus is the bread of life, whoever eats His flesh (communion) and drinks My blood has eternal life.” (I Corinthians 11:29) Verse 63-the words are Spirit! The flesh profits nothing. Chapter 7: Verses 3-5-Jesus’ brothers said to Him, “You ought to leave here and go to Judea so that Your disciples may be inspired by your miracles.” (Matthew 12:46-50; Mark 3:31-32; Acts 1:12-14) Verses 28-29-knowing Jesus and Jesus knowing you! Jesus teaching in the temple said, “yes, you know Me, and you know where I am from, but He who sent Me (God) is true, but you do not know Him, but I know Him because I am from Him and He (God) sent Me.” (Matthew 7:21-23) Verse 50-Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus (John 3:1-17) earlier, who is a Pharisee, said, “does our law condemn anyone without first hearing him?” Chapter 8: Verses 6-11-the people where using a question to trap Jesus but He bent down two times and wrote on the ground, then straightened up and said, “If any one here is without sin, you throw the first stone at her.” Then they all went away, the older first, then the rest, until only Jesus was left, and Jesus said to her, “go now and leave your life of sin.” Verses 17-19-Jesus said, “in the law it is written, ‘you need two witnesses,’ I am one and My Father is the other (John 14:5-7).” Then Jesus said, you do not know Me or My Father, if you knew Me you would know My Father also.” Verse 34-Jesus said, “Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” (Romans 8:5-7) Verse 42-Jesus said, “God the Father is where I come from.” (John 3:16) Verse 48-they called Jesus a Samaritan! Verse 58-”before Abraham was, I am!” (Jesus is eternal life) Chapter 9: Verse 16-some of the Pharisees said, “this man Jesus is not from God, for He heals on the Sabbath.” Verse 28-then they hauled insults at the man who was healed saying, “You are a disciple of this man Jesus.” Chapter 10: Verses 1-5-Jesus said, “a man must go through the gate to Me,” but they did not understand. Verse 7-so Jesus said, “I am the gate!” (This is Jesus) Verses 14-15-”I am the good shepherd (this is Jesus), I know My sheep and My sheep know Me, I know the Father.” Verse 16-Jesus said, “I have other sheep (this is the Gentiles), I must bring them also and they will listen to Me. We will all be one flock.” Verse 26-”if you do not believe it is because you are not His sheep!” Verse 30-Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.” Verse 33-”we are stoning you,” said the Jews, “because you claim to be God.” (And He is) Verse 38-”this is so you may know and understand that the Father is in Me and I in the Father.” Chapter 11: Verses 1-3-Lazarus, who was the brother of Mary who was the one who poured perfume on Jesus feet. Verses 25-27-Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and life, they that believe in Me will live.” (Matthew 26:6-7) Verse 35-Jesus wept for the people! Chapter 12: Verse 6-Judas Iscariet, the one who betrayed Jesus, said, “they should have sold the perfume and given the money to the poor.” He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. Verse 9b-the Jews and the chief priest made plans to kill Jesus and Lazarus also, the one who Jesus raised from the dead. Verses 12-15-but on the next day the crowds of people came to Jerusalem to worship Jesus, shouting, “hosanna,” and Jesus sat on a young donkey (Zechariah 9:9). Verse 16-at this time the disciples did not understand all this, only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written. Verse 19-then the Pharisees said, “The whole world has gone after this man, Jesus.” Verses 25-26-”if you (and I) love this life we will lose it, but the man who hates this sinful life he will keep it for a eternal life. My Father in heaven will honor the one who serves Me (Jesus).” Verses 37-38-the Jews still would not believe in Him (Jesus) (Isaiah 53:1-3). If we turn to Jesus we will be healed (Isaiah 6:10). Verses 42-50-many among the leaders believed in Jesus but would not confess it because of fear (Jesus and God are one). Chapter 13: Verses 1-5-at the Passover Jesus knew that His time had come to leave this world, and having loved His disciples, He showed them the full extent of His love. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under His power and the He had come from God and now He was returning to God, so He washed His disciples feet. Verse 20-”I tell you the truth,” Jesus said, “Whoever accepts anyone I send, accepts Me, and whoever accepts Me accepts the one who sent Me.” Verse 29-Judas had charge of the money and he betrayed Jesus. Verse 31-Jesus said, “the Son of Man is now glorified in God and God in Him.” This happened at once. Verse 34-then Jesus said, “all men will know that you are My disciples if you love one another.” Chapter 14: Verses 5-11-Thomas said to Jesus, “we don’t know where you are going,” and Jesus said to him, “I am the way to God, the truth of God, and the life of God, all come by Me. If you know Me you know the Father, for now you know Me and you see God.” Verse 16-”the counselor is the Holy Spirit, He is with you forever.” Chapter 15: Verses 3-4-”You are clean when you believe God’s Word,” Jesus said, “Remain in Me and I will remain in you. You cannot bear spiritual fruit if you do not remain in Jesus.” Verses 16-17-Jesus said, “you did not choose Me, I chose you, so go and bear fruit that will last. This is My command, love each other.” (Mark 12:31) Chapter 16: Verse 13-”when the Spirit of truth (this is the counselor), when He comes, He will guide you into all truth.” Verse 30-the disciples said, “Now we can see that you know all things, man does not need to ask you questions, this makes us believe that you came from God.” Verse 33-Jesus said, “Take heart! I have overcome the world!” (Matthew 24:42) Chapter 17: Verse 5-”father, glorify Me,” Jesus said, “In Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.” (Genesis 1:26) Verses 20-21-”My prayer is not Your disciples alone, I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one with the Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” Chapter 18: Verses 15-27-Peter’s denials as Jesus is questioned by the high priest. Verse 35-Pilate said, “Am I a Jew? It was your people and your priests who handed You over to me.” Chapter 19: Verse 4-Pilate came our to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against Jesus.” Verses 10-11-then Pilate said to Jesus, “don’t You realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?” Jesus answered, “you would have no power over Me if it were not given to you from My Father above.” I Pet. 2:6-8. Verse 14-it was the day of Passover and Pilate said, “here is your king, take Him away.” Verses 19-22-Pilate had a notice written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek which said, “the king of the Jews.” Verse 24-a piece of garment that Jesus was wearing was woven in one piece. Verses 34-35-one of the soldiers pierced Jesus with a spear and out of Jesus flowed blood and water. The man who did it testified so we can believe. He said, “This it the Son of God.” (Zechariah 12:10) Verses 38-42-Joseph, a secret believer because he feared the Jews, went to Pilate for the body of Jesus to bury it. The one who helped him was Nicodemus. This man visited Jesus earlier (John 3:1-21). Chapter 20: Verses 3-9-John and Peter, both of them were running to the tomb. John reached the tomb first, then Peter arrived and went right into the tomb and then John went into the tomb also. Verses 16-18-when Jesus came to Mary, Mary turned toward Him and new who He was. She cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni,” meaning teacher. Jesus said to her, “don’t hold Me for I have not yet returned to the Father, go to My brothers and tell them I am returning to My Father and your Father, to My God and to your God.” Mary Magdalene went and told the disciples. Verses 24-29-Thomas was not with the disciples when Jesus came in, so the disciples told Thomas, “We have seen the Lord.” Thomas said, “I will not believe.” A week later Thomas was with the disciples, the doors were locked and Jesus came in. Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Come near and stop doubting.” Thomas looked at Him and said, “My Lord and My God!” Jesus said, “Blessed are those (you and me) who have not seen and yet believe.” Chapter 21: Verse 15-Jesus said to Peter, “Do you love Me?” Peter responded, “Yes Lord.” “Feed My sheep,” Jesus said, “take care of My sheep.” Again Jesus asked, “Simon, do you love Me?” Peter answered, “Lord , you know I love you.” Verses 21-25-Jesus did many other things, if it was written down, all the books would not have room for them, the whole world would not have room. ![]() |
