Ezekiel - Malachi ![]() Chapter 1: Verses 24-28-when the creatures of this book moved I heard the sound of their wings. It was like the roar of rushing waters, like the voice of the Almighty God, like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, and so was the radiance around Him. It is the Lord! Then I fell face down and I heard the voice of one speaking. Chapter 2: Verses 1-2-He said to me, “son of man, stand up on you feet and I will speak to you.” As He spoke the Spirit came into me. Verses 3-9-this is what He said, “I send you to the Israelites. They are a rebellious nation so say to them, ‘the Lord says you are to listen or not to listen,’ and you Ezekiel, do not be afraid of what they say, you must speak My words.” Chapter 3: Verses 1-4-God gave him a scroll to ear and it was sweet like honey. Then God said, “go and speak My words.” Verses 7-9-the house of Israel is not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to Me. Verses 19-21-if you say to them, “this is what God says,” they may be lost but you will be saved. Warn the righteous men not to sin and he will surely live (Matthew 28:18-20). Chapter 4: Verses 4-5-”Ezekiel,” God said, “lie on your left side and on your right side for 390 days and 40 days and do this for Israel.” Verses 13-14-”Ezekiel,” God said, “eat defiled food,” and I said to the Lord “no.” (Acts 10:10-15) Chapter 5: Verses 1-17-God, in anger and wrath, deals with Israel. To Ezekiel He said, “I will cut them off for a time.” Chapter 6: Verses 8-10-God said, “I will spare some, for some of you will escape and be scattered among the nations, and then they will know that I am the Lord.” Chapter 7: Verses 4-9-then the Lord said, “I will not look on you with pity, then you will know that I am God.” (Matthew 7:21-23) Verses 19-20-the people will throw their silver and gold away, they will see it as unclean, it will not be able to save them, it made them stumble into sin. Chapter 8: Verse 6-God said to Ezekiel in a vision, “do you see what they are doing, the utterly detestable things, things that will drive Me far from My sanctuary? But you will see things worse than this!” Chapter 9: Verses 8-10-while the Lord left I was alone so I fell facedown crying out, “O Lord, are You going to destroy the entire remnant of Israel in this wrath on Jerusalem?” And the Lord said, “I will not spare them, I will bring down on their heads what they have done.” Verse 10-then it was all over, it was done as commanded. Chapter 10: Verses 3-5-(the glory departs from the temple in this chapter) now the Cherubim were standing on the south side of the temple when the man went in, and a cloud filled the inner court. At that time the glory of the Lord rose from above the Cherubim and moved to the threshold of the temple and the court was full of the radiance of the glory of the Lord. Chapter 11: Verses 3-6-the Lord said, “there are men plotting evil, they say one thing not so, but I know what is going through their minds.” Verse 12-you will know that I am the Lord, for you have not followed My decrees or kept My laws, but have conformed to the standards of the nations around you. Verses 17-18-but this I say to you, “I will gather you from the nations and bring you back from the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you back the land of Israel again. They will return to it and detest all the idols.” Chapter 12: Verse 1-God said, “You are living among a rebellious people. They have eyes but do not see and ears and do not hear.” Verse 26-the vision that is seen is for many years from now and the prophecies are for the distant future. Chapter 13: Verse 3-this is what the Lord says to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing. Verse 17-”I set My face against all who prophesy out of their own imagination, you do the same.” Verse 23-”I will save My people from the hands of the evil and then you will know that I am the Lord.” Chapter 14: Verses 4-5-the elders have set up idols in their hearts, therefore speak to them and tell them the Lord said, “When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and goes to a prophet I will deal with it.” Verses 14-20-even if these 3 men, Noah, Daniel and Job were in this time they could save only themselves by their righteousness, but not their children. Chapter 15: Verses 1-5-the Lord said to Ezekiel, “how is the wood of a vine better than a tree branch, is the wood of a vine ever taken for anything useful? If it was not useful when it was whole, how can it be something when it’s in the fire?” (John 15:4) Chapter 16: Verse 3-the Lord said to Jerusalem by Ezekiel, “your ancestors at birth were in the land of the Canaanites and your father was an Amorite and your mother a Hittite.” Verse 13-I made you beautiful like a queen! Verse 15-but you trusted your beauty more than Me. Verse 44-everyone who quotes proverbs will this one, like mother, like daughter (Isaiah 1:3-4). Verse 63-you will remember and be ashamed. Chapter 17: Verses 18-19-(an oath to the Lord is important) the Lord said, “As surely as I live, I will bring down My oath, the one they despised, and My covenant that you all broke (Deuteronomy 31:17). Verse 23-on the mountain in Israel I will plant a branch of cedar, it will produce and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it, they will find shelter there (Hebrews 1:1-4), Chapter 18: Verses 3-4-”as surely as I live,” said the Lord, “you will no longer quote false proverb. Every living soul belongs to Me and the soul who sins is the one who will die.” Verses 19-20-does the son share the guilt of the father? No! Since the son has done what is just and has been careful to keep all God’s decrees he will live. It is the soul who sins that will die. Verse 23-the Lord said, “do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? No! I am pleased when they turn from their sins and live.” Verse 30-what am I to do-REPENT! Turn away from sins and then your sin will not be your downfall (Matthew 3:1-3). Verses 31-32-rid yourselves of all the offenses of sin and get a new heart and a new spirit for I take no pleasure in the death of anyone declares the Lord (Psalms 51:9-13). Chapter 19: Verses 1-14-take up a lament concerning the princes of Israel. This is a lament, it is to be used as a lament (it’s mans crying out in grief). Chapter 20: Verse 7-the Lord said to Israel, “all of you get rid of the vile images you have set your eyes on and do not defile yourselves with idols.” Verses 11-12-I gave Israel My decrees and made known to them My laws and I said, “obey them and live, it was I, the Lord, that made them holy.” Verse 17-I looked on Israel with pity and I did not destroy them and did not put an end to them in the desert (Exodus 9:16). Verse 19-the Lord said, “I am the Lord your God, follow My decrees and be careful to keep My laws.” Verse 32-and you say, “We want to be like the nations, like the people of the world.” But they serve wood and stone. Chapter 21: Verses 8-17-and this is what the Lord said to Ezekiel, “A sword sharpened and polished, sharpened to slaughter, and polished to flash like lightening.” Chapter 22: Verse 14-the Lord said, “Will your courage endure or your hands be strong in the day I deal with you? I the Lord have spoken and I will do it.” Verse 16-when you have been defiled in the eyes of the nations, you Jerusalem, will know that I am the Lord (Jerusalem’s sins are judged, chapter 22:1-31). Chapter 23: Verses 1-10-2 sisters became prostitutes in Egypt. 1 was Oholah, the other was Oholibah. To Oholah they stripped her naked and took away her sons and daughters and killed her. Verse 25-they took Oholibah and cut off her nose and ears and that what was left. She died by the sword and the rest burned in the fire. Verses 30-31-(this is about Israel, I think it is all the Jews) I have brought this upon you because you lusted after the nations and defiled yourself with their idols. Verse 35-therefore this is what the Lord says, “since you have forgotten Me and thrust Me behind your back you must bear the consequences of your lewdness and prostitution.” Chapter 24: Verse 14-I the Lord have spoken, “The time has come for Me to act, I will not hold back. I will not have pity, nor will I relent. You will be judged according to your conduct and your actions,” this is what the Lord said. Verses 23-24-you will not mourn or weep but will waste away because of your sins and you will groan among yourselves. Ezekiel will be a sign to you, you will do just as he had done. When this happens you will know that I am Lord and I am sovereign. Chapter 25: Verses 1-7-the Lord goes against the Ammonites because they said, “aha,” over the sanctuary of the Lord God, and Israel also, and Judah. Verses 8-11-and Moab did the same! Verses 12-14-and the Lord prophecies against Edom that Israel will deal with them. Verses 15-17-against Philistia also! Chapter 26: Verses 2-6-because Tyre has said, “aha,” to Jerusalem, that she lies in ruins, I prophecy against Tyre. Then they will know I am the Lord. Verses 17-18-then the princes of the coast will step down from their thrones, trembling every moment, and they will lament and say, “how you are destroyed, O city of renown, you are people of the sea. You were a power on the seas and put your terror on all who lived there. Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall.” Chapter 27: Verses 1-12-(a lament for Tyre) all people in the nations did business with Tyre wealth of goods, they exchanged silver, iron, tin and lead for your merchandise. Verse 17-Judah and Israel traded with you. Verse 32-when you are no more they will mourn over you, they will take up a lament concerning you and say, “Who was ever like Tyre.” Verse 36-you have come to a horrible end and will be no more. Chapter 28: Verses 1-3-why did Tyre fall, this is what the Lord said to the ruler of Tyre, “in the pride of your heart you say, ‘I am a god, I sit on the throne of a god,’ but you are a man and not a god.” Verse 8-the nations will bring you down to the pit and you will die a violent death. Verses 17-18-your heart became proud on account of your beauty and you corrupted your wisdom. By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries so I consumed you in a fire in the sight of all who watch. Chapter 29: Verses 9-10-(a prophecy against Egypt) you, Egypt, will become a desolate wasteland, then they will know that I am the Lord. I’ll do this because you said, “the Nile is mine, I made it,” therefore, I the Lord, am against you. Verse 19-God said, “I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth.” Chapter 30: Verses 10-12-the Lord said, “I will put an end to the hordes of Egypt by the hand of the King of Babylon and I will dry up the streams of the Nile. By the hands of foreigners I will lay waste the land and everything in it.” Verse 26-I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries, then they will know that I am the Lord. Chapter 31: Verses 1-9-(the cedar tree in Lebanon) Ezekiel say to Pharaoh, the King of Egypt, and to all his hordes, “consider Assyria, once it was a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches, the waters nourished it, the streams of water flowed all around its base. The birds of the air nested in its branches and all the great nations lived in its shade.” Verses 10b-14-”and because of its pride of its height I handed it over to the rulers of the nations to deal with its wickedness. So I cast it aside and the nations cut it down and no other tree will ever reach such a height again.” (this tree is compared to Assyria like Egypt) Chapter 32: Verse 9-(lament for Pharaoh of Egypt) the Lord said, “I will trouble the hearts of many peoples when I bring about your destruction among the nations.” Verse 15-”when I make Egypt desolate and strip the land of everything in it when I strike down all who live there, then all will know that I am Lord.” Verses 24b-25-all who spreads terror in the land of the living went down to the earth below (hell), they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit (Psalms 52:3-5). Verse 28-and you too, O Pharaoh, will be broken and will lie among the uncircumcised (Colossians 2:9-11). Verse 32-Pharaoh and all his hordes will be laid among the uncircumcised. Chapter 33: Verses 10-11-(Ezekiel) son of man say to Israel, “out sins weigh us down and we are wasting away because of them. How can we live this way? The Lord said, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that they will turn from sin.’ All of Israel turn from your sins, why should you die.” Verse 16-if a man turns from his sin he will surely live and they will not be remembered. Verses 31-32-my people come to the Lord as usual and listen to the words that are said. But they do not put them into practice. They are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, to them it is nothing more than one who sings love songs, they hear your words but do not put them into practice. Chapter 34: Verse 2-woe to the shepherds of Israel who only take care of themselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock? Verse 7-therefore, you shepherds here the Word of the Lord. Verse 11-I, myself, will search for My sheep (people) and look after them. Verse 31-”you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, are people and I am your God,” the Lord God said. Matt. 18:11-14. Chapter 35: Verses 14-15-then the Lord said, “While the whole earth rejoices, I the Lord will make you desolate because you rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate (II Corinthians 3:9-18). Chapter 36: Verse 8-you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and fruit for My people, Israel, for they will soon come home. Verse 15-”no longer will I make you hear the taunts of the nations, and no longer will you suffer the scorn of the peoples or cause your nation to fall,” declares the Lord. Verse 22-so say to the house of Israel, “It is not for your sake I am going to do these things but for the sake of My holy Name.” Verse 35-then they will say, “this land that was laid waste has become like the garden of Eden and the cities that were lying in ruins, desolate and destroyed, are now fortified and inhabited.” Chapter 37: Verses 3-6-Ezekiel said, “the Lord led me back and forth among dry bones and He said to me, ‘can these bones live?’ and I said, ‘only you know,’ so you must prophesy to these bones and say, ‘the Lord said, you will come to life.’” Verse 10-so I prophesied as the Lord said and breath entered them. Verse 26-the Lord said, “I will make a covenant of peace with all Israel. It will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers and put My sanctuary among them forever.” (Hebrews 1:1-4) Chapter 38: Verse 16-Gog, you will advance against My people Israel like a cloud that covers the land in days to come. I will bring you against My land so that the nations may know Me when I show Myself holy. Verses 18-21-”this is what will happen in that day when Gog attacks Israel. My anger will be aroused in that time. There shall be a great earthquake in Israel and every creature and all the people on the face of the earth will tremble at My presence,” this is what the Lord said. (Revelation 20:7-10) Chapter 39: Verse 26-Israel will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward Me when they lived in safety in their land. When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the countries of their enemies, I the Lord will show Myself holy in the sight of many nations. I sent them into exile and I will gather them to their own land. Chapter 40: Verses 1-4-25 years from the exile, on the 10th month, God took Ezekiel in a vision to Israel and said to me, “Look with your eyes and hear with your ears and pay attention to everything I say, tell Israel everything you see.” Verses 38-48-in the inner gateways the burnt offerings were washed. There were 8 tables in all on which the sacrifices were slaughtered. Chapter 41: Verses 4-6-the inner sanctuary was 30 feet by 30 feet, a square. This is the Most Holy Place and the wall was 9 feet thick, the supports were not inserted into the wall. Chapter 42: Verse 14-(the rooms for the priests) once the priests enter the holy precincts they are not to go into the outer court until they leave behind the garments in which they minister, for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes as they go out to the people. Verse 20-at that time he measured all four sides, 750 feet long and 750 feet wide. This was to separate the holy from the common. Chapter 43: Verse 9-God said, “now let them put away from Me their prostitution and the idols that are lifeless, do this and I will live among you forever.” Chapter 44: Verse 4-5-then I was brought to the north gate in the front of the temple and I saw the glory of the Lord filling the temple and I fell face down. Chapter 46: Verse 18-the prince of the gifts in the sacrifice offerings must not take any of the inheritance of the people. He is to give his sons their inheritance out of his own property for this reason so they will not be separated from his property. Chapter 47: Verse 1-the temple of the Lord faced east. Verses 3-6-he measured off 1,500 feet. The water was ankle deep and another 1,500 feet the water was knee deep, and then water up to my waist and then it was a river to swim in. Verse 12-fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither nor will their fruit fail because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. It will serve for food and their leaves for healing (Psalm 23:2). Chapter 48: Verses 1-13-these are the tribes for the division of the land: Dan will have one portion, Asher one portion, Naphtali one portion, Manasseh one, Ephraim one, Reuben one and Judah one. For the priests the Zadokites who were faithful in serving Me and did not go astray as the Levites did. Verse 22-the property of the Levites are for Benjamin’s tribe, his portion is one, Simeon will have one, Issachar one, Zebulon one, Gad one. This is the land you are to allot to the tribes of Israel, all the land is 27,000 feet. Chapter 2: Verses 13-16-King Nebuchadnezzar sent for Daniel and his friends to put them to death. Then Daniel asked why did the king do this. When told, Daniel said, “I will interpret the dream for the king.” Verses 19-23-Daniel praised God for the wisdom to interpret the king’s dream. Verse 26-Daniel is also called Belteshazzar. Verses 27-45-the dream and the interpretation of it. Verse 48-Daniel is placed in a high position, ruler over the entire providence of Babylon, and in charge of all the wise men. Chapter 3: Verses 1-5-King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, 90 feet high and 9 feet wide. Then he summoned all the officials for the dedication (of that idol) and said to all nations, “as soon as you hear the sound of the horn you must fall down and worship the image (idol).” And they all did so! Verses 12-18-Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not do it. The king said. “If you do not worship it you will be thrown into a blazing furnace.” They said, “God will save us.” Chapter 4: Verses 1-8-the king repents and says, “it is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs the Most High God has performed for me, his servant, Daniel.” Verses 25-27-the interpretation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream: “it is you, O king, you will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals until you acknowledge that God the most high.” Verse 28-all this happened to King Nebuchadnezzar 12 months latter. Verse 37-the king said at the end of this time, “I praise and exalt and glorify the king of heaven because everything he does is right, all who walk in pride He is able to humble.” (James 4:7-10) Chapter 5: Verses 25-28-this is what it meant: Mene, Tekel, Peres mean: Mene-God has numbered the days of your reign. Tekel-you have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Peres-your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. Verses 29-30-Daniel was then proclaimed the third highest ruler in the kingdom, and that every night Belshazzer the King of the Babylonians was slain. Verse 31: then Darius the Mede took over the kingdom. He was 62 years of age. Chapter 6: Verses 2-5-Daniel so distinguished himself by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. At this the administrators tried to find a charge against him but they found none. Verses 8-9-they said to the king, “issue the decree and put it in writing and say this, ‘for 30 days no one who prays to any god but the king shall be thrown into the lions den.’” So King Darius put the decree in writing. Verse 16-so the king gave the order to throw Daniel into the lions den (reluctantly) and the king said to Daniel, “may your God, whom you serve, rescue you!” Verse 22-God’s angel shut the mouths of the lions. Verse 26-the king then said to all the kingdom that “all people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.” Chapter 7: Verses 1-14-in the first year of King Belshazzar, King of Babylon, Daniel had a dream and he wrote it down. In verses 13-14 this is Jesus (Mathew 26:64). Verse 27-Daniel was ill for several days after the vision; it was beyond understanding. Chapter 9: Verses 1-19-(Daniel’s prayer in repentance) “O Lord, we and all our kings, princes and fathers are covered with shame because we have sinned against You, Lord God. You are merciful and forgiving even though we have rebelled against You, but You, Lord, are righteous in all You do, so turn away Your anger from Jerusalem, it is Your city. O Lord, listen to us and forgive, do it for Your sake because the people bear Your Name.” Verses 23-27-Gaberial came and said to Daniel, “As you began to pray an answer was given and this I will tell you.” (The answer is from verses 24-27) Chapter 10: Verse 12-when a hand touched me, then he said, “Do not be afraid, since the first day you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before God your words were heard, that is why I am here.” Chapter 11: Verse 31-(the power of the countries that fall) the armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation. Verse 35-some of the wise will stumble so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, and it will come at the appointed time. Verse 37-God will regard no god, but will exalt Himself above them all. Chapter 12: Verse 1-(the end times) there will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of all nations until then, but at that time all God’s people, everyone whose name is found written in the book will be delivered. Verse 2-multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting contempt. Verse 8-Daniel said to the Lord, “I heard but I did not understand, so I asked my Lord what will the outcome of all this be?” And He replied, “go your way Daniel because the words are closed up and sealed until the time of the end, but then many will be purified and made spotless, but the wicked will wicked still.” (Revelation 22:7) Chapter 1: Verses 2-3-(Hosea and Gomer is a picture of Israel’s unfaithfulness) when the Lord began to speak to Hosea the Lord said to him, “Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness because the land of Israel is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the Lord.” So Hosea married Gomer! Verse 7-Israel sows the wind and reaps the whirlwind. Chapter 9: Verse 17-Hosea said, “my God will reject Israel because they have not obeyed Him. They will be wanderers among the nations (from verse 16 God said to them, “do not rejoice, I Israel, and do not be jubilant like the other nations for you have been unfaithful to your God.”). Chapter 10: Verse 12-sow for yourselves righteousness Israel and reap the fruit of unfailing love and break up your unplowed ground, for it is time to seek the Lord until He comes and showers His righteousness on you (Acts 1:7-11). Chapter 11: Verses 1-2-God said, “when Israel was a child I loved him and out of Egypt I call my son (Exodus 7:1-7), but the more I called Israel the further they went from Me. Verse 7-My people are determined to turn from Me. Chapter 12: Verse 6-Jacob, you must return to your God and maintain love and justice and then wait for your God. Chapter 13: Verse 4-God says, “I am the Lord your God who brought Israel out of Egypt, you shall acknowledge no god but Me. You shall have no savior except Me (John 1:1-14-Jesus is God). Chapter 14: Verses 1-2-O Israel, return to the Lord your God, your sins have been your downfall! And say to the Lord, “Forgive all our sins and receive us graciously that we may offer the fruit of our lips.” (Psalm 69:29-34) Verse 9-who is wise? He will realize these things! Who is discerning? Verse 28-after all this I will pout out My Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on all my servants, both men and women, I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Verse 32-and everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved! Chapter 3: Verses 9-11-at God’s time beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Chapter 1: Verse 1-when Uzziah was King of Judah there was an earthquake and Jeroboam was King of Israel. This was two years before Amos was told to say, Verses 3-5-”for the sins of Damascus I will not turn back My wrath, Verses 6-8-and to Gaza, I will not turn back My wrath, Verses 9-12-and the sins of Tyre, I will not turn back My wrath, Verses 13-15-also for sins of Ammon, I will not turn back My wrath.” Chapter 2: Verses 1-3-”for three or four sins of Moab I will do the same.” Verses 4-5-this the Lord said to Judah also. Verses 6-15-this is what the Lord says to Israel, “you sell the righteous for silver, you sell the needy for a pair of sandals and you trample on the heads of the poor. For this I will not turn back My wrath.” (and the earthquake came) Chapter 3: Verses 1-2-hear this Word of the Lord, “you only have I chosen of all the families of the earth. Israel I will punish you for all your sins!” Verse 10-they do not know how to do right. Verse 14-on the day I punish Israel for her sins I will destroy the altars of Bethel and the houses adorned with ivory will be destroyed and all the mansions will be demolished. Chapter 4: Verse 12-therefore, this is what I will do to Israel, and because I will do this to you prepare to meet your God! Chapter 5: Verses 4-6-this is what the Lord says to Israel, “Seek Me not in Bethel or Gilgal, they will be reduced to nothing, seek the Lord and live.” Verse 10-you despise Him (Jesus) who tells the truth (John 5:24). Verse 14-seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord (Jesus, God, in the Spirit) will be with you (Romans 12:21). Verses 21-24-the Lord said, “I hate your (so called) religious feasts, I will not accept your burnt offerings, away with your songs (that are not real), but let justice roll on like a river and righteousness like a never failing stream.” Chapter 6: Verse 8-God says, “I abhor the pride of Jacob!” (And all others who are proud-Hebrews 11:3) Verse 13-you who rejoice in the conquest say, “Did we not take the battle by our own strength?” Chapter 7: Verse 8-the Lord said, “Amos, what do you see?” He said, “a plumb line.” And God said, “Look I am setting a plumb line among the people of Israel.” (God’s Word is the plumb line that helps us see sin) Chapter 8: Verse 11-God said, “I will send a famine, not of food or water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” Chapter 9: Verse 14-the Lord said, “I will bring back My exiled people Israel and they will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them. They will plant vineyards and drink good wine. The will make gardens and eat the fruit of it.” The name Obadiah means servant of Jehovah {God}. He said the Kingdom of Edom is to be destroyed, never to be heard of again). Chapter 1: Verse 8-”in that day,” says the Lord, “I will destroy the wise men of Edom, the men of understanding in the mountains of Esau.” Verse 10-”this is because of the violence against the brothers of Jacob you will be destroyed forever.” Verse 13-”you should not march through the gates of My people in the day of their disaster, not will you look down on them in their calamity in the day of their disaster, nor will you seize their wealth.” Verse 17-But on Mount Zion will be deliverance; it will be holy and the house of Jacob will possess it as inheritance (Revelation 19:9-10-the testimony of Jesus; Romans 3:1-4). What advantage is there in being a Jew? Much in every way! First of all they have been entrusted with the very words of God (John 1:1-14). What if some did not have faith? Let God be true and every man a liar! For this reason it is written so that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge (Psalm 51:4-7). Chapter 1: Verses 8-10-the sailors asked Jonah, “What do you do? Where did you come from? And what is your country?” He said, “I am a Hebrew and I worship the Lord, the God of heaven, who made all things.” They asked, “What have you done?” Jonah was running away from God (John 4:24) and he was swallowed by a fish for 3 days. Chapter 2: Verse 10-then the Lord commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto the land. Chapter 3: Verses 5-8-when Jonah obeyed the Word of the Lord, the Ninevites believed God and declared a fast, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth, and when the news reached the King of Nineveh, he to took off his royal robes and did all this too. Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh, “let everyone call on God and give up their evil ways.” Chapter 4: Verses 3-4-then Jonah said to God, “take away my life, it is better for me to die.” But the Lord replied to him, “Have you any right to be angry?” Verse 9-but he said, “I am angry enough to die!” Verse 11-God said to Jonah, “Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people (120,000) who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?” (II Peter 1:16-21) Chapter 1:Verses 1-2-the Word of the Lord that came to Micah, “hear, O peoples, all of you listen, you in the earth, all who are in it. The sovereign Lord says, ‘I witness against you from My holy temple.’” Chapter 2: Verse 12-the Lord said, “I will surely gather all of you, O Jacob, I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will do it like sheep in a pen and the place will throng with people.” Chapter 3: Verse 8-”but as for me, I am filled with power and with the Spirit of the Lord and with justice and might, I declare to Jacob his transgressions and to Israel his sins.” Chapter 4: Verses 11-12-but now many nations are gathered against Israel. They say, “Let her be defiled.” But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord and they do not understand His plan. Chapter 5: Verse 15-”I will take vengeance in anger upon the nations that have not obeyed Me.” Chapter 6: Verse 8-”God has showed you, O man, what is good and what does the Lord require of you? This, to act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God.” Chapter 7: Verse 7-but as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord! He is my Savior! Verse 18-who is a god like our God who pardons sins. Chapter 1: Verses 6-7-who can withstand God’s indignation? Who can endure His fierce anger? His wrath is poured out like fire, but the Lord is good, He is a refuge in times of trouble and He cares for those who trust in Him. Chapter 2: Verse 6-in Nineveh the river gates are thrown open and the palace collapses (trouble comes to Nineveh again). Chapter 3: Verse 7-all who see you will flee from you and say, “Nineveh is in ruin, who will mourn for her?” Verse 13-look at your troops, they are all women and the gates of your land are wide open to your enemies; fire has consumed her bars. Chapter 1: Verse 7-the Babylonians, they are a feared people and they are a law to themselves, and they promote their own honor. Chapter 2: Verse 4-see, people are puffed up, their desires are not upright, but the righteous, they will live by faith. Chapter 3: Verse 1-2-Habakkuk’s prayer, “Lord, I have heard of Your fame and I stand in awe of Your deeds, O Lord. Renew all them in this day; make them know you and remember Your mercy.” Verse 19-the sovereign Lord is my strength, He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, He enables me to go on the heights. This is for the director of music. Chapter 1: Verse 18-on the day of the Lord, their silver nor their gold will be able to save them. On that day His wrath, and the fire of His jealousy, the whole world will be consumed. For He will make a sudden end of all who live in the earth! Chapter 2: Verse 3-seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what He (God) commands. Seek righteousness and seek humility, perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. Chapter 3: Verse 5-the Lord’s in the city of Jerusalem, He does no wrong. Morning by morning He dispenses His justice and every day He does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame. Verse 12-but I will leave with you (I John 4:2-4) the meek and humble who trust in the Name of the Lord (Jesus). Verse 19-at that time I will deal with all who oppressed you, I will rescue the lame (John 10:7-11) and gather those who have been scattered. I will give them praise and honor in every land where they were put to shame. At that time I will gather you and I will bring you home, I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth. I will restore your fortunes in that day. Chapter 1: Verse 5-now this is what the Lord says, “Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much but have harvested little, you eat but never have enough, you drink but never have your fill and you put on clothes but are not warm, you earn wages only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” Chapter 2: Verses 1-3-on the 7th month, the 24th day, the Word of the Lord came through the prophet Haggai saying, “who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory?” Chapter 1: Verse 16-the Lord said, “I will return to Jerusalem with mercy and there My house will be rebuilt, and My towns will again overflow with prosperity, and the Lord will comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.” Chapter 2: Verse 8-for this is what the Lord says, “after I have honored My self and I go against the nations that have plundered Zion, for whatever touches you, touches the apple of My eye.” Verses 10-11-”shout and be glad, I daughter of Zion, for I am coming and I will live among you,” declares the Lord (Jesus), “many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will be My people. I will live among you and you will know Me.” Chapter 3: Verse 4-the angel said to those who were standing before him, “take off his filthy clothes.” Then He said to Joshua, “see I have taken away your sin and I will put rich garments on you.” Verse 10-”in that day each of you will invite his neighbor to sit under his vine and fig tree,” says the Lord. Chapter 4: Verse 6-so the Lord said, “not by might of man, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord Almighty. Chapter 5: Verse 3-and this is the curse that is going out over the whole land according to what it says on the side, “every thief will be banished,” and on the other side, “who swears falsely will be banished.” Chapter 6: Verse 15-all those who are far away will come and help to build the temple of the Lord, and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me. This will happen if you diligently obey the Lord your God. Christ in us is the hope. I Cor. 3:16,17. Chapter 7: Verse 8-and the Word of the Lord came again to say, “administer true justice, show mercy and compassion to one another and do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, in your hearts do not think evil of each other.” Verses 13-14-when I called they did not listen, so when they called Me I would not listen. I scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations where they were strangers (Revelation 18:9-10). Chapter 8: Verses 15-17-the Lord said, “I have determined to do good again to Jerusalem and Judah, so do not be afraid. These are the things you are to do, speak the truth to each other and render true and sound judgment in your courts, do not plot evil against your neighbor and do not swear falsely.” God said, “I hate all this!” Chapter 9: Verses 9-10-”rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion, shout, daughter of Jerusalem, see your king is coming to you (Jesus). Righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey, His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the river to the ends of the earth.” Matt. 21:5,6 Chapter 10: Verse 6-”I will strengthen the house of Judah and save the house of Joseph, I will restore them because I have compassion on them. They will be as though I had not rejected them, for I am the Lord their God and I will answer them.” Verse 12-”I will strengthen them in the Lord and in His name they will walk.” Chapter 11: Verses 12-13-I told them, “if you think it best, give me my pay, but if not keep it.” So they paid me thirty pieces of silver and the Lord said to me. “Throw it to the potter.” So I threw them into the potter (Matthew 27:5-7). Chapter 12: Verse 1-3-this is a Word from God, “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling, and Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem on that day. When all the nations of the earth are gathered against her I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All that try to move it will injure themselves.” Verse 9-”on that day, I the Lord will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.” Chapter 13: Verse 9-”a third of the people I will bring into the fire; in doing this I will refine them like silver and test them like gold. I will say, ‘they are My people’ and they sill say, ‘the Lord is our God.’” (Romans 9:25; Hosea 2:23) Chapter 14: Verses 4-8-the day of the Lord, on that day there will be no light, no cold or frost, it will be a unique day, without daytime or nighttime, a day known to the Lord. But when evening comes there will be light, on that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem (John 4:10). Verse 9-the Lord will be King over the whole earth! On that day there will be one Lord and His Name (Jesus) the only Name. Matt. 28:18. Verse 20-on that day, holy to the Lord, will be inscribed on all things. Chapter 1: Verses 7-8-the Lord said, “You place defiled food on My altar by saying that the Lord’s table is contemptible when you bring blind animals for sacrifice. Is that not wrong? And when you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? If they offered them to your leaders would they be pleased with you?” Lev. 22:21. Verse 14b-”for I am a great and loving King,” says the Lord Almighty, “and My Name is to be feared among all the nations.” Chapter 2: Verse 7-the lips of a priest ought to preserve knowledge, and from his mouth men should seek instruction because he is the messenger of the Lord. Verse 10-have we not all one father? Did not one God create us all? Then why do we profane the covenant of our fathers by breaking faith with one another? Verse 17-you have wearied the Lord with your words. You say, “How have we wearied Him?” By saying, “all who do evil are good in the eyes of the Lord,” or you say, “Where is the God of justice?” Chapter 3: Verse 1-the Lord says, “I will send My messenger, who will prepare the way before Me (John the Baptist), then suddenly He will come (Jesus).” Verse 5-”then I will come near to you for judgment and I will be quick to testify against sorcerers and adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages and who oppress the widows and the fatherless and deprive aliens (gentiles) of justice and they do not fear Me,” said the Lord Almighty. Verses 8b-10-the people ask, “How do we rob You?” The Lord said, “in tithes and offerings! Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse (church) that there be food in My house for the people of God.” Verse 12-then all the nations will call you blessed. Verse 18-and you will again see the distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between those who serve God and those who do not. Chapter 4: Verse 2-but for you who revere My Name, the Son of Righteousness (Jesus) will rise with healing in His wings and you will go out and leap for joy. Verse 6-in that day God will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers. God does not want to strike the land with a curse. THE OLD TESTAMENT, AMEN! ![]() |
