Teen's Text Page ![]() Curt Cobain was such a man. His rock group, Nirvana, was one of the most successful acts of the early 1990's. They were so popular, the record companies abandoned their current heavy metal groups and signed grunge bands similar to Nirvana in order to cash in on the mania. Cobain had everything this world could offer, wealth, popularity, power, women. On April 5, 1994, after previous attempts, Curt Cobain succeeded in ending his life by a self inflicted gun shot wound. Everything he had meant nothing.(Luke 12:20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided.) Alexander the Great, who had conquered all the known world was said to have died from a broken heart because all he had accomplished left him unsatisfied. I could give many more examples of actors, musicians, athletes, politicians, the rich and powerful who had the world at their feet, but were empty because of the shallowness of their lives.(Mark 8:36,37 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul. Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul.) In the Bible we read of such a man. Like Cobain and Alexander he seemed to have it all, He was the richest, most powerful man in the world. He was popular with the opposite sex, He had 300 wives and 700 concubines[live in girlfriends]. Chicks dug him. His name was King Solomon. In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon wrote of how he sought and acquired wealth, pleasure, earthly wisdom, power, prestige and sexual conquests. It was all his, and it was all vanity(useless)."Vanity of vanities, all is vanity" He cried time and again. It was only when he turned to the Lord and realized that our purpose is fulfilled when we live, not for ourselves or the world, but for the one who created us. In Ecclesiastes 12:1 he tells us how much better it is if we serve the Lord while we are young, than wasting years on things that do not matter. In the end it is not our friends or the world who will judge us, but God, himself will judge us on everything we speak, think and do(see Ecclesiastes 12:13,14). He isn't concerned if we are popular, pretty, good looking or dress in the current fad or anything like that. He is concerned about your relationship with him and the priority you place upon it.(1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature;because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.) In order to have a right relationship with God you must be born again(saved).
