![]() Autumn 2005 Dear Praying Friends, Time really seems to fly by between these letters. When I wrote last we were ending the school year with our children’s club and teen club. We have now started again and things are going well. We’re making final preparations to start practicing our Christmas play for this year. Please pray that this would be well attended again this year, and that the people who come will understand the Gospel as it is told. This year Karen has chosen a theme of “Christmas Around the World”. Molly has been a very big help to Karen and we are very pleased she can be with us now. For those of you who don’t get our e-mail updates, Molly’s Visa ran out at the end of September, and we have been trying to get it renewed. She went to Ireland for a week to work in a Christian camp (which she really enjoyed) and came back into the country under a tourists Visa. With this we will have another 6 months to work on things to try to get her Visa renewed. Please pray for wisdom on our part, and pray that the authorities here in England will grant this without her having to go back to the USA to apply. From November 8th through 10th we hosted Douglas Young, an evangelist with the Open Air Mission, doing the “Through the Bible Exhibition”. I have mentioned this in previous years. This year’s theme was “The Amazing Acts”, and we had over 200 school children and their teachers who came through and heard the gospel as it is presented in the book of Acts. What an amazing opportunity. Karen, Katie, Joshua, and myself were all Bible characters again, and Molly did a lot of work preparing quizzes, drinks of juice and cookies for the kids as well as tea or coffee for the teachers. We were all kept very busy. Pray for us as we will be going into these 3 schools and giving out prizes to the children who did the best on the quizzes we gave them. I asked you to pray for neighbors, Richard and Kath. We did start the “Christianity Explained” course, and so far have had 4 sessions together. We started our first lesson showing Jesus claim to be God, and His authority. Then we looked at the Crucifixion, followed the third week by the Resurrection. Last week we talked about Salvation by Grace alone, not of works. This week we will be discussing the need for repentance. Please continue to pray that the Lord would open their eyes and that they would repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Richard and Kath have told us they have really been enjoying these studies, and have been reading their Bibles and doing the homework. Continue praying for the Church at Wakefield. We started the children’s club again, now on a Friday evening, but did not have anyone show up, even though Mary, who helps me, had spoken with the neighbourhood children and they all told her they would be coming. Pray that they would come this week and again hear the gospel. Building work on our church building is still at a standstill as we await Building Control approval. They asked our designer for some clarifications and modifications to the drawings, which he has submitted to them. He believes it won’t be long now until we will be able to start. In regards to this, please pray that as we step out on faith that the Lord will supply all we need to get the work done. Katie really enjoyed her trip to Brazil this past summer, where she grouted floor tile that had been laid in New Tribes Mission’s retirement homes that they are building for their missionaries there. Molly enjoyed her time in London with OM, but it was difficult as she found there were not many Muslim women there who either could speak English or were willing to speak. If anyone wants to know more about either of their mission trips please let us know and we will send further details. Our basement project is moving along slowly. Next week (November 23rd to 29th) we will have 2 young men here helping us. There is still much to do. I had hoped to get this room that I am working on, which will be my office, done before winter, but that doesn’t seem likely now. I am hoping to get it done before our boiler goes so that we can have the new one installed in this room. Our present boiler has started to go bad, and although it still heats the house and water, it is only a matter of time. I pray it lasts through the winter. It is not worth spending money to have it fixed at this point. We continue to pray for co-workers who will come over and help us. Here is what I recently wrote to our Mission concerning this: “I am praying for church planting team members to come work with us in establishing the church we are presently in, and possibly others in the future. We are looking for people who are willing to be involved in evangelism as well as other ministries within the church, especially children's and teen work. I am praying for someone that is gifted musically and could help with the church worship as well as using their musical abilities for other ministries. Also we would like someone who could be involved in a teaching/preaching ministry. All of these things are needed, but I don't mean 1 person with all of these abilities. I will accept any of these. I would hope that anyone who came would come as a servant, and even if their main gift is anything other than evangelist, I would hope they would be involved in evangelism, whether that be friendship evangelism of any other form of evangelism. I am looking for people who will work well together on a team with Karen and me. I also know of many other churches over here who are looking for people to come help them. Possibly someone might consider working with us for 2 or so years, learn the culture, etc., and then move on to help other churches. We would be open to this too.” In closing, let us wish all of you a very Happy Christmas and may God bless you in the New Year. Thanks again for caring and praying.
