Missions
![]() History of Washington City Mission The Mission was founded in 1941 by Burt McCausland, a local minister and businessman, to serve those who remained homeless due to the Depression. The Mission began in a simple store front, but moved to its current location in 1963. Today our primary service delivery area is Washington, Greene, Fayette, and Southwestern Allegheny counties. In the beginning, homeless men were the primary recipients of services. However, in 1986, the Mission opened the Avis Arbor Women's Shelter to meet the needs of the fastest growing homeless population -- women and children. Through the years, the Mission has expanded its programs to better server an ever-expanding number of people. However, what has never changed is the commitment to share the love and Word of Jesus Christ to all who pass through our doors. © Copyright 2000 Washington City Mission ============================================================ Child Evangelism Outreach Inc. Child Evangelism Outreach is located and headquarted in Washington PA. They have existed as an interdenominational faith mission engaged in reaching children for the Lord Jesus Christ in Southwestern Pennsylvania since the late 1930's This ministry operates under a local board of directors, including a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, assistant treasurer, and individual members. This board meeets monthly to pray, to discuss business, to plan upcoming events, and to fellowship together. These members are commited Christians involved in their own local churches, who have a deep burden for children and a sincere desire to reach them for Christ. C.E.O. has a variety of outreach ministries to reach children ages 4 to fourteen, primarily. These include, but are not limited to the following. KINGS Clubs Primary school-term ministry Summertime KINGS Clubs Hoilday Party Clubs KINGS Kamp Kiddie Day Kamp Specifically geared toward pre-schoolers KINGS Chapel on Wheels Sharing the gospel through face painting KINGS Kids Klubhouse Online stories and activities for children- visit them at www.gospelforkids.org and click on the klubhouse Vacation Bible Schools Children's Rallies Missionary Director John J Stahlman has directed this ministry locally for over 20 years. Most of the teachers and workers are volunteers under the guidanece of the staf, keeping administration expenses to the minimum. Please note: All titles above are registered trade marks. Why should you care? Of the 205,000 residents of Washington County alone, 22.2% are under the age of 18. That's 45,510 children! Of those, 9.8% live at or below the poverty level. During the past 20 years, contemporary family life has changed. Many children live in families in which both parents work outside the home. Children are also affected by divorce. Many children spend weekends with the non-custodial parent. These children may be unable to participate consistantly in Sunday church activities. KINGS Clubs through the week can provide alternative times when these children can meet and learn about Jesus. Consider these SOBERING statistics. Every day in America: 6 children commit suicide 13 children are homicide victims 14 children are killed by firearms 5,753 children are arrested 34 children die from accidents 1,329 babies are born to teen mothers 367 children are arrested for drug abuse 17,297 school students are suspended So why should you care? Jesus did! Jesus considered children very important. He was an advocate for children. The Binlical passages Matthew 19:13-15, Mark:13-16 and Luke 18:5-17, record how Jesus blessed, recieved and accepted little children. They also record how shocked the disciples were by Jesus' action. We are called today to reach out to children and their families in Jesus' name. All above information taken from the flyer put put by CHILD EVANGELISM OUTREACH INC. San Gregorio Nicaragua
Mt. Of Olives Christian School
In the village of San Gregorio in southwestern Nicaragua, an exciting ministry is underway every weekday- the ministry of the Mount of Olives Christian School. Born out of the desire to provide a Godly education for the children of this remote village, the school opened in Febuaru of 1977.Since then, the school has grown from 35 pre-schoolers to more than 150 pre-school and elementaty students.
Students begin their day with pledges to the Christian flag, the Bible, and singing the national anthem. They recieve a quality education, giving them many of the tools they will need to become productive citizens. However, their education does not stop there. The school puts a major emphasis on the study of scripture giving each student an opportunity to broaded their understanding of -and hopefully deepen their faith in - God.
The Mount of Olives Christian School is a joint ministry of BMDMI, the Mount of Olives Baptist Church in San Gregorio, and individuals who have caught the vision of supporting these precious children.

Stop telling God how big your storm is.
Instead tell your storm how big your GOD is! In Phoenix, Arizona, a
26-year-old mother stared down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of
terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled with sadness, she also had
a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to
grow up and fulfill all his dreams. Now that was no longer possible.. The
leukemia would see to that. But she still wanted her son's dreams to come
true. She took her son's hand and asked, "Billy, did you ever think about
what you wanted to be once you grew up? Did you ever dream and wish what
you would do with your life?" Mommy, "I always wanted to be a fireman when
I grew up." Mom smiled back and said, "Let's see if we can make your wish
come true." Later that day she went to her local fire department in
Phoenix, Arizona, where she met Fireman Bob, who had a heart as big as
Phoenix. She explained her son's final wish and asked if it might be
possible to give her six-year-old son a ride around the block on a fire
engine. Fireman Bob said, "Look, we can do better than that. If you'll have
your son ready at seven o'clock Wednesday morning, we'll make him an
honorary fireman for the whole day. He can come down to the fire station,
eat with us, go out on all the fire calls, the whole nine yards! And if
you'll give us ! his sizes, we'll get a real fire uniform for him, with a
real fire hat-not a toy one-with the emblem of the Phoenix Fire Department
on it, a yellow slicker like we wear and rubber boots. They're all
manufactured right here in Phoenix, so we can get them fast." Three days
later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dressed him in his fire uniform and
escorted him from his hospital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck.
Billy got to sit on the back of the truck and help steer it back to the
fire station. He was in heaven. There were three fire calls in Phoenix that
day and Billy got to go out on all three calls. He rode in the different
fire engines, the paramedic's van, and even the fire chief's car. He was
also videotaped for the local news program. Having his dream come true,
with all the love and attention that was lavished upon him, so deeply
touched Billy that he lived three months longer than any doctor thought
possible. One night all of his vital signs began to drop dramatically and
the head nurse, who believed in the hospice concept that no one should die
alone, began to call the family members to the hospital. Then she
remembered the day Billy had spent as a fireman, so she called the Fire
Chief and asked if it would be possible to send a fireman in uniform to the
hospital to be with Billy as he made his transition. The chief replied, "We
can do better than that. We'll be there in five minutes. Will you please do
me a favor? When you hear the sirens screaming and see the lights flashing,
will you announce over the PA system that there is not a fire? It's just
the fire department coming to see one of its finestmembers one more time.
And will you open the window to his room? About five minutes later a hook
and ladder truck arrived at the hospital and extended its ladder up to
Billy's third floor open window16 firefighters climbed up the ladder into
Billy's room. With his mother's permission, they hugged him and held him
and told him how much they loved him. With his dying breath, Billy looked
up at the fire chief and said, "Chief, am I really a fireman now?" "Billy,
you are, and the Head Chief, Jesus, is holding your hand,"the chief said.
With those words, Billy smiled and said, "I know, He's been holding my hand
all day, and the angels have been singing.." He closed his eyes one last
time.
My instructions were to send this to at least four people that I wanted God
to bless and I picked you. Please pass this to at least four people you
want to be blessed.
This story is powerful and there is nothing attached, please do not break
this pattern; uplifting stories are one of the best gifts we receive. There
is no cost but a lot of rewards, let's continue to uplift one another. ![]() |
