WHY SALTSCOM IS NEEDED?
WHY SALTSCOM IS NEEDED?
A mission educator sees that by the year 2003, the population of the world will surpass six billion people. He added that more than 80 per cent of that number will be living in urban centers. As well, Edgar Elliston and Timothy Kauffman believe that “the majority of the world’s populations live (sic) in cities.” Likewise, John Dawson says that “by the year 2010 three out of four people on earth will live in cities.” This results to people flocking to urban centers because of perceived comfort of life.

People from rural areas will continue to flock to cities because they offer jobs, entertainment and advantages in the delivery of education, health and other services, apart from access to information (newspapers, television and radio are headquartered in cities), creativity, diversity, and innovation. . .

The truth here, “most of these people, especially the poor, are unreached by the Gospel.”

On the other hand, there are enough leaders in all levels in the church today. We bemoan the fact however that an alarming number of church leaders have begun to copy the world’s models of leadership. Gottfried Osei-Mensah observes:

Seeing the style of leadership in the world and the ways in which leaders
are chosen there, church members begin to copy these patterns
within the church. The world enters and begins to press the church
into its own mould.

In fact, all over the Philippines today, an exuberant spiritual upsurge is taking place. It was reported that the country has the third fastest growing evangelical church in the world today, the first two being Brazil and Korea. The Corpus Christian Community for example, started with only twelve people in December 1982 but it had a nationwide constituency of 16,500 by December 1989. However, a Filipino Christian leader wonders why this vaunted growth has not resulted in more justice and righteousness in the country. Thus, the Body of Christ most likely suffers.

It is in this context why there is a need to fine-tune the overall and strategic direction of Salts Community, (SaltsCom in short)
