Mission Strategy and Slogan of SALTS (SaltsCom) COMMUNITY
![]() The SaltsCom is a unique community committed to nurturing salts - metaphorically refers to believers (Matthew 5:13) of the Lord Jesus Christ, their character and condition (Mark 9:50). "The image reminds us that our whole life as a church should make a difference in the community". (Steve Gruchy, "Maximising your assets," Inside Out, October 2002, p. 22.) As "salts” of the earth, “we penetrate society and act as a preservative against social putrefaction, restoring and affirming whatever is good and just, and lovely in the things around us. . .” This comes through by equipping them with necessary resources of combining both skills in specific Christian ministry areas and skills in interpersonal level and at the same a consciousness of the Christian atmosphere. These are available for personal and professional growth in pursuit of investing influence in communities to both the on-line community and visible community, for Christ. Our understanding of a community is that of an expanding interrelated sense of belonging of those who have experienced deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. There goes the Salts Community! VISION OF SALTSCOM We envision a global community nurtured with the encroaching influences of God and His Kingdom, where “each human being is able to flourish, becoming what he or she ought to be as an image-bearer of God.” MISSION AND VALUES OF SALTSCOM The Salts Community is dedicated to nurturing encroaching influences of God and His Kingdom by building solidarities of holistic ministry all across the globe. Holistic ministry is conceptualized as “ministering to physical needs and ministering to spiritual needs, though functionally separate, are relationally inseparable, and both are essential to the total ministry of Christ’s church. Whereas Maggay states that “evangelism and social action are distinct; both however, are parts of our Christian duty.” Compare this further with Tetsunao and Kim-kwong Chan when they say: Although Lisu Christian leaders have no formal theological training, their theological methodology seems to be ‘from below’ approach: realization of physical needs, reflection upon their needs, and pastoral action to fulfill them. At first, they taught only the Bible to their voluntary pastors, but in recent years they have realized that the needs of the Christians are physical as well as spiritual. They began to focus their ministry not just on spiritual but also on agricultural, educational, and medical programs. They are now teaching the voluntary pastors to minister to both the spiritual and physical needs of their flock. Or “a tissue paper separating material from spiritual,” as the late George McLeod of the Iona Community, would put it. In its practical principles, the holistic ministry is described as “the cycle of reciprocity; namely, redemption leading to development, and further, development leading to redemption.” CORPORATE GOALS OF SALTSCOM Establish a more coherent and cohesive public image of SaltsCom by: - Increasing the public’s awareness of what SaltsCom is all about and people’s partnership with its ministry; - Identifying underused resources and making fully use of them by networking with community organizations, local government, and corporation ; - Strengthening interior and institutional development of SaltsCom; - Establishing a sustained partnership funds raised and holistic ministry projects ![]() |
