Compulsory Attendance Ages: “between 6th and 16th birthdays”, however, a child under the age of 6 who has attended public school for more than 20 days is also subject to the compulsory attendance law. -----------------------Home School Statutes------------------------- Required Attendance: 180 days per year, 4 ½ hours per day. Teacher Qualifications: High school diploma or GED for a teaching parent or guardian; OR high school diploma or GED for any tutor employed by parent or guardian. Required Forms: File a “declaration of intent” to homeschool with the local superintendent within 30 days of establishing the home study program and by September 1 annually thereafter. This declaration must include the names and ages of students, the address of the home school, and the dates that you designate as your school year. Maintain and submit monthly attendance records to the superintendent at the end of each month of school. Both of these forms must be signed and dated by the parent or guardian. Required Subjects: A home study program must include, but is not limited to, instruction in reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science. Required Evaluation and Testing: Teacher must write an annual progress report in each subject for each student. Retain evaluation for at least three years. Students must take a standardized test every three years beginning at the end of the 3rd grade. Retain tests results for at least three years.
