Having spent ten solid years in the ministry of Christian publishing as a publisher of a Christian newspaper called Praise The Lord News, in Nigeria, Julius Adegunna naturally has a very deep knowledge of what it takes to be a successful Christian publisher in Nigeria. Thus coming out with a book titled Fundamentals of a Good Report to commemorate the ten years of his Christian newspaper could not be more timely. His submission easily attracts attention. The title of the book has A manual for Christian writers as its rider. In Nigeria where there are limited or almost non-existent relevant books on Christian publishing, Julius Adegunna’s little submission may continue to be a reference material for those called into publishing ministry. A hand book indeed, it begins with the introduction to the book which gives an insight into what actually prompted him to write. According to him, writing on Christian reporting may not be a new concept in its entirety 'But the Lord has inspired me to send out a signal from what we have been seeing of the emerging christain writing of our time. Little wonder then, that he delved seriously into the basic elements of a report. His chapter one starts with What Is A Report? in which he goes into both literary and professional meaning of a report. Chapter two gives an ecclesiastical analysis into what it takes to know a good from bad report under the topic Good and Bad Reports, with relevant biblical examples. As a Christian writer, the author looks into the dangers of Bad reports in Chapter Three also with biblical examples. He of course is not unconscious of the sacrifice required to be a writer of good reports. Citing examples of how Nigerian Church leaders have not been doing enough for christian writers. This he titled the Cross of Good Reports. Also as a minister called into writing and publishing ministry, the International Relations graduate of University of Ife, Ile-Ife and Nigerian Institute of Journalism Lagos enjoined Christians called into the writing to see their calling as a unique one. Chapter five is titled “When You Embrace A Good Report. In Chapter six, he submits that the enumerated senario puts a Christian Reporter in a Dilemma of whether to fulfil a godly mission or professional need before he carefully concludes with prayers for the Christian media. Other Chapters that could be of Good interest to readers are 'Can A bad Repot be made good? And Do Christians deserve A Different Report?' The book in its entirety challenges whoever claims to have been called into the ministry of Christian media. He also provokes Christians and church leaders to do more to appreciate Christian and Gospel Reporters, as well as encourage them beyond denominational barriers. The 48 page which has been making waves among Christians in Nigeria, is expected to set a standard in Christian Publishing in Nigeria and world over. It is recommended for all Christian writers, media practitioners and users. This book is available on request.
